Book 2: In The Life of Mia: College Chapter 10
My sleep had been calm and easy to slip into almost as easy as breathing, which was a great feeling now, even though I tried not to think to much about why Catherine had not said goodbye before leaving. “I’ll call her tomorrow” I tell myself before I am out of it for good. I had slept all the way through until morning when my alarm woke me at 5am and hoping that I would actually get in a workout before anyone interrupted me. I knew Bailey would most likely be up as he was an early riser and as I changed and freshened up before heading out I opened up the balcony to take a look at what the weather had to offer me for my morning workout. The morning fog that covered the property did not surprise me since the night had been a little damp and I finally closed up the room before heading down. I found Bailey in the kitchen reading over the morning paper and enjoying his coffee and alone time as usual “Ma’am, sleep well? I have your smoothy ready to go and water room temp for your run, that’s unless you are changing it up and you won’t need the run today” “Nah, trust me I need it like I always do…. Thank you for this. I know you love running with me so don’t try and get out of it old man….so let’s go and don’t worry I won’t ware you out too much today I’m only planning on a 3 mile run today since I have to much to do and still have to get back here to get ready” I say as I down the smoothy.
Bailey and I head out the side door for our run a little around 5:20 am running down towards the security gate that is locked up like Fort Knox. “Ya this is going to be a hell of a morning for sure” I groan as the security gate refuses to open. The guard just shrugs “ma’am sir sorry but I was told not to let these gates open until I was told by the man of the house” I frowned and knew there was always another way around a locked gate. “Bailey have your pistol handy? I order you to shoot the power box if this idiot doesn’t open this in 30secs and my father knows better since he knows I run at these hours. So, you either call your boss now or open the gate NOW!” I warn him. The poor guy looked nervous but also had his orders too so I reached around him to grab the phone and called the house until my father answered sounding worried now. “MIA…. What the….” “Yep sorry to wake you, but since you are the man of the house and didn’t think to give a new schedule to these men out here for when your very athletic daughter came home for a few days….anyways just please have him open the door…” I shove the phone back at the man who looks unphased. 10secs later the gates are sliding open and Bailey and I are again on our way out and without even an apology from the idiot behind us who’s now called on his radio for a car to follow us.
An hour and a half later Bailey and I are finally back through the gates with an escort still on us which drives us both out of our minds. “I know he’s your father and all, but what am I? I am pretty sure I’m more qualified this all this men… well maybe right there with Ralph, but this is ridiculous…. And I mean I get it to an extent, but maybe I need to have a talk with your father myself” “Damn it…NO this is not your problem as this is him being over protective and…. Just don’t worry about it I will figure it out. I am trying to understand a few things still and ever since I left for college it’s been a tough thing for them that they still have not truly shared with me all the way through and they just keep saying when the time is right. I guess it’s something serious since they just want me to focus on school, but maybe it’s time I force their hand since this is my life and well I do have my own team that should know everything…I mean am I wrong?” I ask Bailey as we approach the house at a slower pace now than we had for the last mile and a half back rounding out our run total to 5 miles round trip. Bailey looked to have things on his mind, but I could tell he agreed with me since he did not comment “Family disputes are not my favorite, but she’s not wrong, Bailey just leave her to ramble and discuss this more with her father behind closed doors!” but his thoughts also told me all I needed to know.
We parted at the elevator so I could head up quickly as possible to freshen up before I was costed by someone to get me off tract. “Please just if anyone asks, I am up handling my business and will be down shortly” I whisper as I step into the elevator. I was happy to find that no one was in the hallway as I exited the elevator, but as I got closer to the bedroom I could hear a breathing and a heart beat that sounded like it was at a fast pace for whatever reason. I stepped into the bedroom and braced myself for whatever waited me which was a complete surprise as it was my mother and Mrs. Juneson the house manager who had really saved me the night before. “Good morning ladies… I hope this is a short and sweet conversation as I do need to get into a shower before my morning gets hectic…so out with it please” I look at both women as I head into the walk-in closet for my business attire for the day. My mother Amelia watched me as I busied around the closet while Mrs. Juneson spoke “I just wanted to see how you were this morning and let you know that I have more supplements for you downstairs. I hope those ones I gave you last night worked for you and your head, I can also insure you that the ingredients are very healthy for you and you do not need to worry about any side effects or anything like that. It was actually made special just for you and well that’s actually why I had them all made for you and your mother as well now that she’s got another baby on board. She’s a lot more open and clear headed now, no more poison in her body as we speak and she can hear you a lot more clearly now” her words had me stumbling back for a second not sure if I was hearing her right.
Mrs. Juneson had been very aware of just who my family was and hired to make sure we were taken care of especially my mother and with this pregnancy. Not only that now, but she was now given my records to see what she might be able to learn and help along with my health and make sure that I was on the right track. “Your parents just want to make sure that you are taking all the right things and vitamins that your growing body needs…” I could not help the outburst of laughter that erupted from my chest “Me…. My growing body… Mrs. Juneson if my body grows more than this I am afraid there is a real problem…and I am very aware that I am only 19 and there is a very good chance by the time I stop growing I could very well be another 2-3 inches taller… I am already ½ inch taller than I was when I left for school 2 months ago. I am very grateful for your help with my mother and this new baby, but I’m pretty sure I did not ask for your help and my parents giving you access to my records was not necessary since I’m pretty healthy. I however will take your advice and the supplements that you’ve so kindly had made for just me as you so nicely put it, and if I should want more or need more I will let you know. Now if you two would excuse me I am now officially behind with time and need to shower before I am truly late to my own grand opening” I give them both a smile before heading into the bathroom and turning on the shower stripping and climbing in before the water has had time to even get warm.
