Chapter 82

After eating our breakfast we sat and read the paper, magazine, and for me the last 3 schools that I had brought with me to breakfast. I wanted to try and finish out the pros and cons list which was hard and the main reason that I needed to visit them again. I had wrapped my hand around the neckless as I had every chance I got and looked inside it just as much and realized I wanted to ask my father questions about Sharene. I slowly took off the locket that I had yet to really share with my parents or anyone else for that matter and scooted closer to my parents. “Take a look at this for me would you… then give me your opinion on it, because I’m still at a loss for words and I guess that’s why I’m asking you for your help now” I said as I handed the neckless to my father after opening up the locket. My father made some noises and teared up more for about the millionth time I had seen in so many days. My mother who did the same as she got up moved her chair closer to my father. “Wow, well than Sharene must have some real feelings for you to have left this priceless item of hers with you. I can only assume that the child on the other side is hers. I could not even imagine how she must have felt being away from her baby. How did we not know about this dear husband of mine, I thought you said you had all the resume’s that would have told you she had children and was a pretty new mother at that” my mother scolded my father.
My father handed me my neckless back and got up from the table disappearing for only god knew how long. When he came back not even a minute later, he had a stack of papers with him. “Take a look for yourself, I looked over these myself and then told the Capt. exactly who I wanted even though he had his own crew that he was familiar with. The resume says nothing about a child, just that she was doing online classes and would be able to stay for the whole summer with some exceptions to go home if needed. Says she has a sick parent that has a live-in nurse taking care of that parent but incase things were getting towards the end wanted to be able to leave at a moment’s notice. If I would have known the whole story, I would have even let her whole family come stay here the whole summer. I mean I’m not a mean person I believe I’m actually very amazing considering all of this and the fact that this time tomorrow Maxine’s family will be here along with Brendon’s. I told them they could come and meet everyone here and spend time with their parents since it’s something new for them all. Sharene would have had the same opportunity and I’m sorry that she felt she couldn’t tell us the truth. As for my opinion on why she left this behind, well I am with your mother you must have touched her in some way like you do to everyone who you come into contact with” my father said softly.
My father handed me back the neckless back and put it back around my neck and continued to read the resume that lay in front of me. About the girl who had left us for some reason or another. I wondered if the info on the rest of the page was even real and if so, did I send back the neckless knowing she had to have to been missing it. Especially when she had to leave her baby again. “Her baby is only 6 weeks old, how do you get your body back that quickly?” I asked my mother who had experience with it. My mother smiled and I was not sure if she’d actually tell me or not or if she’d even want to go back to a time that was hard for her. “Depends on age and body type my dear, I was young. I have good genes since my mother had 5 children leaving only 2 left living, and my grandmother had a total of 8 and they both were skinny Minnie” she said as she was obviously remembering a time that made her happy as the smile on her face told me so. I wanted to ask more but thought it would be better if I took my time in that area of our lives, since we just were not used to talking about the dead.
For a split second in time, I took a minute to picture how it would look for us if Ethan had never died and the twins were there too. It made me smile as I was able to now create it all on my own and for them to be there whenever I wanted them to be. My parents had still been very much in the mood to talk to me and wanted to know why I had such a big smile on my face all of a sudden. “Hey baby girl…. What is, that smile for?” my father asked as reached out and touched my cheek. I was still very much there with them but also in the reality that I had created for myself where things were so perfect. “Oh, just thinking about how life would be for us all if Ethan was still here and the girls would have made it” I said as I slowly looked at him and then my mother. Greta had come out of the kitchen with more coffee and juice since we had finished it off and still had others in the main house that had yet to come down for breakfast. As though on cue Jasmine had come down and greeted us all along with Sebastian, and another guy I had never seen before. I figured he was one of my father’s main guys who stayed hidden. “Mornin’, how did everyone sleep…. ha I’m assuming well since it’s now 8 am and we’ve been up for well not sure about these two, but I’ve been up since about 4:30 am and already did my morning routines” I said feeling proud that I was getting back to myself more and more every day.
Before they could get too close, I closed the folder my father had given me about Sharene and slowly slid it back to him tapping it lightly. “Thank you, dad keep this one on hand ok I’m still trying to figure something out and maybe if you could…. Hmmm no I do not want to do that, or do I… I just want to make sure she’s ok and if possible, give her this back” I said in a whisper to him. He winked at me and looked at the neckless around my neck, starring for a minute longer than anyone else would have. “I’ll let you know what I find out not sure how long it’ll take so just have patience ok” he said before getting up from the table. Sebastian had disappeared into the kitchen after saying good morning and not even looking at me when he said it. I had just left it alone knowing that it would only drive me crazy and that’s not how I wanted to feel any more. My mother sat with Jasmine and talked as Jasmine sat next to her and I could tell my other had really gotten close with her. Considering the first time she met her she was a wreck. “So, the two of you are buddy, buddy now I’m assuming because you know dad never slept with her and that she’s really here to help if need be” I said with a smile.
My mother’s smile quickly left her face and pure shock replaced it. “Wow well Mia that is pretty much spot on since that’s exactly what happened our first night when your mother asked me if your father and I had slept together. I’m sorry that you both even thought that since I’m not that way and would never break up a family at least on purpose” Jasmine said with a kind smile on her face. I thought about the comment she made about “I’m not that way…” and wondered if she swung the other way and could read me now. Ethan started to laugh as he sat next to me listening to our conversations. “Omg….. you are funny, sis I’m even a little confused about that little comment too. Oh, and anyways about that whole idea about Sharene… that would not be smart for you. Only because you are creeping into stalker mode. Our father pretty much has everything at his fingertips to find everything out about this girl that you want and you just have to tread lightly. I’ve already told you once it’s not the right move… at least at this moment” he said before relaxing into his seat.
Jasmine had been looking at me and I could tell by the look in her eyes that she could tell my brother was there or at least someone’s energy was there. “How does it feel to know you are one special person and are able to connect with the dead?” Jasmine asked after my mother excused herself from the table to grab the ringing telephone. I sat up straighter and crossed my fingers together and asked her the same question. “Anyways I’m still trying to figure out if it’s real or if I’m crazy.. ha but then if I am, so are you…” I added. Jasmine raised a brow and started laughing as did Ethan who had not really stopped from the first time the conversation had started. Jasmine was just about to say something when my mother had come back to the table “So they are all staying at the yacht for breakfast and then heading back with Asher for a couple of days. Nick called just to ask if it were alright and let us know what their plans were” my mother said as she sat back down.
There was no way of hiding that I was hurt that they did not just call me on my cell or text me, but figured they were still pretty mad. “Ok well it’s their summer too and if that’s what they want to do who am I to stop them from being happy. Hmm wonder how long they are going to block me out, but I had no intensions of ever telling anyone about the twins. I didn’t get much of a choice though in that area. Now I just have to deal with them being mad at me and it hurts but it’s bound to happen when we all go off to college and the military” I said as I got up from the table.
