Valdez must have been doing the same thing since I didn’t hear her freaking out either nor did either of us freak out in a loud tempo more like a silent but deadly situation I thought and hoped she was alright. “DC. Valdez you alright over there….” “Yep and you…” she answered sounding just as miserable as I did. My voice was almost completely gone from all the yelling that had taken place from the conversation with my parents and Sharene that morning along with the Campbell’s who made things worse for me. “So, are we like cousin’s, or something?” I asked now wanting more answers that I was sure that she did not know much about either. “To be honest I have no family left they are all dead and that’s one reason I became a police officer and worked my way up to DC. I’ve been able to talk to my family for years since about 18-19 and so it’s been a good 9 years but other than that I’ve been to scared to learn more and just within the last few months I found this place and all thanks to a book I found in my father’s study. So, to be honest I’m not real sure how we are connected” she was now more vulnerable and softer spoken with her voice getting closer. My family had already told me we were of descendants but did not tell me much more so figured we had to be related in some type of way. “Ok what is she talking about books, I have yet to run across anything like that so maybe she has more things…” “Angel this room holds so much and you have to first go to the corner and take that broken piece of brick and remove it…” Zeus urged softly.
Following my grandfather’s instructions, I went to the corner removing the broken brick and reaching inside to the old looking cloth pulling it out. It felt quiet heavy and once I unwrapped it, I found that they were keys that could have been to anything. “They are to the house which is hidden just outside the city and still guarded to this day by guards that are to only let you in if you have all the pieces you need to unlock the puzzle. So, look around the room for things that look like they do not belong, but I can’t promise they’ll all be there since we’ve all had pieces and they could be spread all over the world. Until you have all the pieces you won’t have access, but you do have proof of ownership under the slab here so go on and slide it over and get what you need. Once you have it take it to the house and show the guards along with well… blood that you’ll need to go along with the proof, sorry about that part but we could not be too careful” he was truly trying to make things better. “OMG…. I’m not about to do all this now today, but I will take this with me for now and keep it safe and then over the weekend I’ll be sure to do it. I can’t afford to do it right now, I’m exhausted and can’t even get to my feet right now” I begged when everyone started in on me again. I knew now was the perfect time to either learn to balance with one foot in reality and another foot on the other side or I would be fucked.
Valdez drove me back once we got back up and were able to walk again and we did not say another word the rest of the way back to my house until I got out. “Should I even ask you to come in or would that be weird for you… ummm or against the rules for your job… only because I’m so mind fucked right now that I’m about to go get fucked up on whatever alcohol I have left in the house. I’m sure you can use something strong as well and trust me I don’t keep the baby shit or cheap shit in the house…” she didn’t even let me finish until she was out of the car and half way up my drive before I could finish. Bailey and Lola were coming towards me with a phone in one hand and my iPad in the other. “You are going to want to take these now” they both pushed the items towards me at the same time and looked to have been just as mind fucked as me. “OMG you called them….” I glared at them before taking the devices. They shook their heads “NO” and I let out a long sigh. “Umm
Valdez is staying for a drink and a bite to eat and possibly the night if she can’t drive herself back to wherever she lives” I informed them giving them the look not to argue before taking the calls. My parents were on the house phone while Sharene was on the iPad and looked to be very upset along with my parents. “Ok… I am listening to you all but this back and forth shit is not going to work for me… I have had a trying day and if you are calling about things that might have been umm…” “Yes your little video on campus with a group of very unpleasant people. Good thing that you have training and know how to make a grown man back off… very proud father about that, but as for you taking off leaving your team behind was not a smart idea” my father scolded me. “Yea and I’ve been worried sick and Madeline is literally not herself either to the point of I had to play little tid-bits that I had got from when you sang to her and the recordings from the baby monitor when you had conversations with her. They helped for a bit but she’s smart and when she didn’t actually see you she is back to being fussy again, so if you could take like 5 mins and just talk to her while I put her on the screen so you both can see one another” Sharene begged and making herself clear as could be.
Once finally in my chair with a drink next to me I was more than happy to get the ball rolling with Madeline and Sharene who was looking at me as though she was still pissed and wanted more answers than what she had seen from the video’s. Madeline’s beautiful face took up the screen and her smile was all I needed at that moment to make me feel better. “Hi princess… I miss you and mommy very much… sorry I didn’t get to see you off to bed. Not to worry though it’s only 3pm there and I’ll do my best to see you to bed tonight ok” I spoke softly in a whisper with what voice I had left. Madeline slapped the screen of the tablet on the other end and started to get irritated when she couldn’t actually touch my face. “Maddie calm down angel I am right here on the screen and everything is going to be ok I promise, and the more that mommy calms down and relaxes the more you’ll calm down and back to yourself” I looked to Sharene and knew that was the wrong thing to probably say when she came back into focus and bitching at me again. “I have every right to be all over the place since I’m on my fucking bloody menstrual, my girlfriend is on the web having an argument in a park and there is not much I can do since I’m thousands of miles away” she was now seething in a to calm of a voice that had me reaching for my class of blueberry scotch.
My parents were just as angry as they listened to us talking before they interrupted. “She’s right honey, the distance is killing us all and there is just too much going on there…” “NO shit mother since today has been one long fucking day and mind fucking at that… and good news I found something very interesting when I went on a little ride with Ms. DC Valdez who’s in charge of the case, but had nothing to do with the case and everything to do with your fucking side of the family” I cut her off and muted the iPad with Sharene on the other end. “I’m so done with this for now so now that you know I am back home safe and sound I am hanging up and will talk to you all when I have time since I need to now study for a test that I have tomorrow and have not even got any type of studying in and thank goodness for my friends here since I have the notes I need for it” I said hanging up the phone and tossing it to the floor. Sharene was now out of her mind screaming at me since I muted her which only made the flames bigger, “Damn it Shar baby calm down please… I am sorry I muted you but I was screaming at my parents and didn’t want Maddie to get all up and add to her stress for a 4month old who feeds off of your damned emotions as it is. So like I just told my parents I have a test tomorrow and have not done a lick of studying and thanks to my study buddies they are prepared and gave me all their notes that I needed, but I’m sorry that you are all so upset over nothing. I will call before I go to bed and since it’ll probably be an all-nighter I will call before you put Maddie down so I can say goodnight to you both ok” I said hoping she would not argue any more.
