Book 2: In The Life of Mia: College Chapter 13
Once seated at the table after greeting everyone it was nice to feel not so on edge as I had a lot on my mind as it was now and just wanted to have a meal and then head home. The young man had introduced himself as Angelo Jaxson and was handsome yet did nothing for me which I was happy for. As his partner, Ms. Fiona Dilworth had also been pleasant as well and young herself. “Thank you for joining us all for lunch, I hope we are not keeping you from anything else. Your father did inform us though that you’re only here for a short time and we wanted to at least connect with you as well while you are in town and if we have to do the rest with your business partner and father that is fine” “Yes Angelo is correct we just want to treat you all to lunch and just get to know you a little better and get some insight if that is ok” the two of them were definitely a power house team and I wondered a few things and what they really wanted and their end goal. “Well I can always appreciate a good meal, but since I have not been in this process except for the ideas of this gym and nothing after. I have no real idea what I can do to help with what you might want. The real guy to talk to is the guy who devotes his life, sweat, blood, tears, and everything else to this life and he’s been doing it way before I even came along. I don’t mind listening and doing what I can to add idea’s, but other than that I’m not much help. I say we enjoy some food and then once that’s done, we sit back and do more conversating about what might be next” the waitress arrives to take our drink order a few mins later.
Lunch had been amazing without too much business talk expect a round of compliments on such a great smart young girl I was and how I had designed something that was so out of this world and on a whole other level of extreme. "So how did you come up with that idea, only asking because you are only 19 years old and are mature, beautiful and have great genes when it comes to beauty and just wow you have both of your parents beat in height?" the young man Mr. Jaxson asked looking at me as though I were a priceless gem. "Ha Mr. Jax...." "please Angelo" he smiles cutting me off with the touch of his hand on my wrist. I froze hating that he felt so comfortable touching me. I pulled a little freeing my hand and grabbing my napkin wiping the corners of my mouth. "Ok, but I hardly know you and I'm sorry, but I was raised with manners. Ha sorry that was rude of me to say it like that Angelo look my father's father is 6'1 same height as my father, my mothers’ side is also where the tallness comes from. Her father was close to 7ft while my grandmother's father stood 7 1/2 ft tall. I just hope I'm done growing since no one likes a giant who looks like me, makes most men and even some woman I come into contact with very inadequate. Thank you though for your kindness and well, to be honest, the maturity thing... ha-ha I have my moments as I'm sure most people do every once in a while. I have had to kind of grow up faster but also didn't mind it since I felt that it was necessary so that I could understand things that some people lack for most of their lives. So, tell me something what kind of businesses do you run or invest in? You don't look much older than 30-35 and wear very expensive clothing and drive a very unique piece of art. I would like to know a little more about all of you actually since my father seems to think that we'd make a great team and before I get into business with anyone I like to make sure I do my homework and research" I asked wanting to turn the tables just a bit and see where everyone came from.
Angelo Jaxson was the young hot shot while the other two older men seemed to just be there for encouragement and guidance. “I bring a lot to this table and this a family run investment firm, I want to assure you that not only have I been watching Mr. Glademer’s growing business, but your young name as well through things and very intrigued. I enjoy sitting down with younger people and picking their brain to see what makes them tick and what makes them take the paths they do. I did not mean to cause you stress or discomfort, and I could talk numbers and all that, but like you said you will probably go home and research and do your homework and you should. What I am here to tell you is that you won’t find anyone who will work harder for you and we are the silent type but I will also tell you we make things happen quickly behind the scenes especially when we see these types of markets sky rocket and well who doesn’t like the money?” he shows us all his pearly whites and I can see he must be impressing his family. The woman next to him just watches our interaction wrapping around all we’ve said and I can feel her wheels turning up there and I know she’ll be getting in her two since before the lunch is over. I just hope that I can last long enough to hear them all before wanting to snap or needing to just get out of the confined space we had already been in for far too long already for my comfort.
Our lunch turned out to be 2 hours of hearing all the stories behind the men and one woman that had been with the 4 clients/investors of my fathers and almost regretted it but found that maybe my father was right and that he might just be right about having these 4 in my corner when it came to business. "Well, what a treat to meet you all and learn a little more than just facts, numbers, and all that since I'm not really a business kind of woman. I'm about passion and if I find passion in what I believe in why not brand it and make a little money. I've been doing it for the last couple of years now, which I'm sure my father told you all since he could not believe it himself when I told him" I laughed when my father groaned as though it were a secret. "Actually daughter of mine they did not know that since I didn't want people to know that my 19 year old daughter didn't need her father for things that I wanted to be proud of..." "Oh well so I don't use your money and haven't in 3 years, gotta let it go, but if it makes you feel better you can use your money to buy lunch" I we all laugh as the waitress passes him the check. The two older men though had thrown frown faces at my father as though they knew how it felt at least somewhere along the lines. "No, no feeling sorry for this man who taught me to be independent and a mother who wanted the same but also expects me to have a rich husband and 2 kids or more. I'm not anyone's possession nor will I ever be tied down..." my mother was now giving me a sour face as our table couldn't help but laugh and find it all so amusing. "Wow, well we will all have to do this again soon. I know you go back to London in a few days but the 3 of us will be out that way in about a month maybe we can grab dinner and talk more about what ventures you see yourself going into in the not so distant future" Fiona smiles grabbing her bag . "Fiona, sounds like a plan.... I look forward to this again and I hope you all enjoyed the gift bags with everything in them. I wanted them to be perfect for our opening and the bags are one of a kind which I like so yes again love branding" I smile as we all get up to leave and loved the way I was feeling at that moment.
Sharene and my mother had left before we all finished up and they both looked a little irritated with me along with my father who got over it more quickly than they did but knew we were probably going to get hell later. "Your mother and girlfriend did not look all to happy when they left us, I am not sure what came over you and you being so open telling them our business" my father made it seem like I told them that I was sleeping around and that I had twin girls who we just buried months prior to our meeting. "Lord Jesus you are blowing what I said way out of per-portion, and I'm sorry if I said something wrong but it really was not that big of a deal so not sure why they left all crazy and you are now up my ass" I huffed out as I slid in to the seat of the SUV. Ralph just gave me a look like he was now going to have to settle my father down but smiled all in the same. "Rough lunch sir?" he asked as my father got in after me. The two men shared a look that spoke volumes and Ralph just nodded his head as though he understood and closed the door. I was still just trying to figure out in my own head what I had done so wrong at lunch that made my mother and Sharene get up and leave halfway through our lunch. “I mean I was not rude, I guess I could have included them more… sheesh I have no clue” I thought as I laid my head back against the seat.
