Book 2: In the Life of Mia: College Chapter 36
By 4:30pm I was finally through with school and now needing a stiff drink from all the chaos that had somehow become my life in just a short 2 months of being in college. Bailey and Lola had been waiting outside my last class since my teacher refused them access. “Mia, ummm you have a visitor waiting back at your place and she’s not all too happy one bit…” “Oh goody let me guess…. would it be DC Leona Valdez….” I laughed already being warned by my grandmother’s that she was there and waiting outside in her car for the last 45 mins. Bailey did not find it all funny and figured he knew the reason. “It was not really smart to get in Mr. Campbell’s face earlier and people were watching including some videotaping it… you know how the internet is….” “Bailey just cool your jets for 10 secs would you… I am sure it’s just a warning to me about my suggesting the Campbell’s to keep on the police’s asses since they still had no leads in almost 4 days now. All they have are suggestions and thoughts and yes the car that actually hit her but no one inside. I will smooth things over and we can go back to being the boring people from America who is a college student just so happens to have a team of people protecting her every damned move as though she was some importance to national security” I shrug and laugh even though my nerves were shot and all I wanted to do was sleep. Lola didn’t bother to say anything just sighed heavily telling me she was not thrilled on what I did either and it just amped me up all over again but this time I just counted to 10 so that I wouldn’t explode or cause something worse to happen.
DC Valdez was stepping out of her car as we pulled up and the garage door opened. “Ms. Ribbonowski a word please if you wouldn’t mind” she demanded nice and loudly from the curb since she did not actually have reason to come on my property. I walked to the edge of the fence and waited for her to speak but when she didn’t I went ahead and started first. “Well I am sure you are here because of the incident between the Campbell’s and I on campus today.. I wouldn’t be surprised if you got a good videotape of it either. I can also guarantee that you are definitely pissed as they probably have been on your….” “Get into my car please… we are going for a ride… and your goons are to stay here, or I’ll have them arrested. I am a DC after-all and have more training then they all have combined” she warned even though we both knew they were all probably well trained. Bailey came to me ready to pull me back and into the house whether I wanted him to or not. “Mia….” “Bailey… don’t just take my things and if I need anything trust me you’ll know.. and so, help me GOD you make sure that no one calls my parents or anyone else for that matter. She’s not a threat to me yet and if she is trust me, I have enough training to protect myself as you have seen tapes of” I frowned handing him my things. I followed Valdez to her car and got into the back of the car even though she didn’t say to but figured if I were going to be treated like a criminal I might as well live up to it.
Valdez was shocked when I had chosen the back seat instead of the passenger seat. “Umm well than I guess we’ll go now, but you didn’t have to sit back there since you are not a criminal…” “Hmm well what do you call sitting outside my house for the last almost hour and a half even though my team says less but we both know differently don’t we? We also both know you could have just met me at the campus instead of driving 45 mins out of your way. Never been in the back of one of these things so I wanted to check it out, but if you think it’s not a good id….” She took off so quick jolting me back against the seat and speeding off to wherever it was we were going which I assumed it was not the department. “Damn it Mia…. You have no common sense whatsoever, but I give you some props for disobeying grand-dads since they are dead and you are not. I’m starting to think you have balls or something that make you just do shit that is only going to piss others off. You better hope mom and dad don’t find out or they’ll be on the next plane if they are not already considering your little stunt earlier and they’ve been monitoring everything here in England about any news regarding Vi and her case” Ethan was now just as irritated as I was. Valdez had been watching me the whole time and it was almost like she knew something was happening and that we were not alone in the car anymore.
A good 35 mins later Valdez pulled up and into a cemetery driving around to what looked like a mausoleum and got out opening the back door since I couldn’t open it from the inside. I got out and stretched since being in the back was not comfortable on my legs one bit and even cramped them up making them feel stiff as fuck. Valdez had started walking towards the mausoleum and I just followed her not feeling like it was a trap or maybe I was just stupid like Ethan had said before and I was only heading into trouble. She stopped outside the door and looked at me and pulled a neckless from under her shirt and placed it against the keypad along with putting in her combo to unlock it. “I’m surprised you aren’t running by now or asking questions” Valdez looked seriously at me now as her tone was now so gentle. I shrugged my shoulders “Nothing surprises me anymore and trust me this is nothing from what I’ve been put through in the last few months so trust me this is nothing” I half smile waiting for her to get on with whatever she had planned. Valdez continued to lead the way as she stepped inside and stopped me before I entered. “Umm one real quick favor before you enter… you have to be blessed first hope you don’t mind?” she asked and a second later a priest came up alongside me and blessed me before going in.
Once the doors closed and we stood inside a room with a very old looking marbled looking coffin she reached above her head twisting the wrist of the statue which slid the coffin sideways and a light automatically lit the staircase that led down. “Umm ya this is where things look like they could be a live or die situation so how about you keep leading the way and…” “Relax this is my place that I do my things that aren’t exactly normal and if I’m wrong which I usually am not and if I know what I felt we have a lot more in common and to be honest have to find out for myself” she was now smiling as she took the stairs down. My dead family members were now urging me to go even though at first, they were warning me which just irritated me, but I didn’t really have much of a fucking choice. I was not sure how far we had gone down underground but once we got to where she wanted us to go, I could not believe what I was seeing. I saw people who looked familiar in some way but not for me but for my family on the other side and the feeling they gave me was like they finally found a missing piece of the puzzle with so much emotions flooding me all at once that I collapsed to my knees. I held my head in my hands trying to control all the voices that exploded in it and Valdez was on her knees with me as we both must have been going through the same thing at the same time.
After getting a grasp on everything I finally crawled out of the room needing air and the moment I did the neckless around my neck started to light up and I saw a door to another room that lit up like Christmas. The key and door had been like a magnet to one another as I just went with the flow since I wanted the pain to stop. I put the charm of the neckless in the light hole and a second later the door slid open and lights lit up the room as though it were sunlight or something exploding everywhere around me and I was crawling my way in as my grandparents urged me to once again. “DAMN IT…FUCK PLEASE JUST GIVE ME A REST ALREADY…” I begged as I laid flat on my back not able to keep myself upright. Then it hit me that this was another inheritance and might have even been the piece of the puzzle to the damned map in my box and keys of my mothers’ and mine that had been hand made for us. I felt like my head was ready to explode and the only thing that calmed me were my girls surrounding me and rubbing my head with their hands. After what seemed like forever the pain in my head slowed down and my relatives gathered around me helping me to focus and at least letting me rest while the girls continued to rub my head making things better just having them near me.
