Book 2: In the Life of Mia: College Chapter 57

Leona had woken me around 1am after I had fallen asleep on our first movie, yet she had left me there to stay sleeping while she watched 1 more movie. “I—I’m so sorry….” I yawned and rubbing my eyes before finally sitting up. Leona smiled watching me stretch and yawn “Good to see that you’re at least comfortable enough to sleep in my presence especially with all that groaning, drooling, and even snoring.” I groaned hating that she could have been right about the latter of things “No, No there is no way I did any of that….maybe slight snoring, but not all those others. Even if I did it isn’t polite to tell me and see if I ever come watch movies with you again….” I got to my feet ready to head to my room. Leona took pity on me as she led the way down the hall since at the moment my bearings were so off. “Now do you need my assistance to get to your side of the house or do you think you can handle it from here?” she asked in a low soft tone. I yawned again waving her off “Go on to bed I can see myself to my room. See you in a few hours ya?” I ask as she starts down the hallway. Leona turned slightly and smiled “You know it….now get some sleep and I’ll be here if you need me for anything.” Just knowing I had someone to truly be there for me without actually making themselves a pain in my ass, it really felt good even though I had put up such a fight.

Over the next week, I was busy with not only school, but getting to know my true strengths and weaknesses. Leona had kept her promise to teach me and I did the same as we learned together and found our true selves along the way. “Mia, sorry to bother you but I’m trying to figure things out for the next few days and possible weeks since I’m super busy with work and a few out of town trips. I hope you’ll be ok for a few days with me not here, but if you need me, I’m only a call away” Leona had thought that I could not manage without her there. Smiling I nodded in understanding “Sounds like it’s a party while you are away…. To bad you are going to miss it” I joked, and she groaned. I hoped she knew I would never disrespect her or her home in that way but didn’t take it back since I was sure she would check in on me every hour she was away. We both went our separate ways as I headed out the door for class and she headed off to work for only Gods knew when. “See you when I see you Lee, stay out of trouble and I’ll be sure to stay in touch while you are out” I wink before ducking inside the SUV with Bailey.

Classes had been just as hectic as the professors had promised and nothing like when I was in highs school and some of the teachers were a lot more laid back and towards the holidays they had given us less work not more. “Yes, but don’t forget you are not in high school any longer and you are an adult” Ethan loved popping up out of no where and always at the wrong time. I shrugged not wanting to have a full conversation with him when I was deep into school and still had 3 more classes to go. I just wanted to get through the next 7 weeks without any hiccups and of course not looking like I was crazy especially if I started talking out loud to people who were not there or spacing out like I was on drugs. My friends had met up with me after my last class and had wanted us to all get together for dinner if at all possible. “Plus, we could use a good study session….you have been kind of keeping to yourself and we just want to make sure you’re not….” “She wants to make sure you are not struggling but not sure how to come out and ask if you might need help” Serenity and Xander had seemed to grow a lot closer in the last couple of weeks.

Xander, Serenity and I had met up with Logan and Kelly as they had been near the SUV with Bailey who was not waiting on me. “Hey, you two, are you wanting to join the 3 of us for some Friday night fun with some studying thrown in for good measure?” I ask as I toss my things in the back seat. All my friends had decided it was perfect and could use a good group study session. “Ok than we’ll see you at our house in a couple of hours…” Logan and Kelly have decided they want to do the studying at their place instead of Leona’s. “Yes, for sure I’m just going to run home and get out of these clothes and then make a few calls. Then I’ll be over as soon as I’m done taking care of a few things that really need my attention….we should also get some take out so if we can all agree on the same place I could even pick it up on my way over” we all say our goodbyes before going our separate ways and trying to think of what we wanted for dinner.

Bailey got me back to the house while I took my weekly phone call with my parents who seemed to be a little nervous about the arrival of my little brother coming within the next month or so. “You got this, and it’ll be like riding a bike. Once he’s here you’ll see and your parental knowledge and the way you had twins 19 years ago. So, have no fear and if you truly need me to remind you both of that every day I will since you are both great and just because it’s been so long since you had little ones running around doesn’t mean you won’t be able to handle it now” my parents look ready to cry as our video call is clear and steady. My father holds my mother in his arms, and I could see the love he truly had for her even if there were times in our lives it did not really seem that way. “Thank you honey…. Your mother is perfect and has me and everyone else here to keep her mind busy and even though at night it’s the hardest she…we both know that once this little guy is actually here everything will be perfect” he smiles kissing my mother on the cheek. My mother Amelia loved his attention and most of all his affection he gave her, and I was sure that was all she would ever need to be happy with him for the rest of their lives.

Our call lasted a good hour with me doing my best to do things while they stayed on the line wanting to get in as much time with me as possible. “So, have you spoken to Gio or any of your other friends?” my mother asks as she too is busy doing something on her end. I frowned “Well we have our weekly catch up usually by email or text, but all is good, and I love that the gym is getting so much business which makes me happy. As for anyone else….nope I’ve been a little too busy to worry about anyone else and I rather not be chewed out by my friends at every turn. I am way too old for child like drama and that is all it is right now” I inform her even though I was sure she knew it all. My father did his best to just listen as he knew it could get heated if our current discussion leaded any further “Ok now what are your study’s looking like? Are you having any issues with keeping up? I know you said that the professors where really laying it on thick before the holiday breaks” he had completely changed the subject which helped me in more ways than one. I smiled “Well actually I am doing really good and have study group tonight over at the house with my friends. As for the professors they are just as promised and we actually lost a few students because the work load was too much for them to handle” I had wanted them to know that I did not have much longer to talk but did not just want to come out and tell them I had to go.

Another 45 mins with my parents and I on the phone which had me finally telling them it was time for me to head off to study with my friends and also pick up dinner for us all. “I promise I’ll call you same time next week and if you need me you know where to find me” I blow them both a kiss before we disconnect and they both look like they want to stay longer. “Ok honey and we will see you before you know it….can’t wait to have you home for a few and hope to have you staying here” my mother looked lonely already even though she had plenty of friends and my father to keep her busy. “Yes, mama I’ll see you and father soon and I’ll think about staying at the house depending on the chaos that is our family. So, let’s just keep it that way this year, could we?” I ask not wanting to have my few times home for the holidays to be even more stressful than I had needed or even wanted. I knew that they were the type to always have a full house and even if I wanted it low key it was something hard for them as they loved taking in anyone who did not have a family or someone to spend the holidays with. I was happy that my father actually let me go once Bailey had let me know that my friends were now calling the house to see if we had left yet. “I told them that we would be on our way soon and the order for food has already been placed and should be ready to be picked up by the time we get there” Bailey was firm and my parents finally let me go a few mins later.
