Chapter 84

My parents watched me and Bruce running around and acting like kids considering we were only 10 years apart and when my aunt was around it was just as crazy since she was only 6 years older. “How long are you staying for? We are only here for a few more weeks and then we head to Europe for a few days to take one last tour of Oxford before I decide on the college I want to go to” I informed him hoping he could stay a couple days and keep me company. Bruce looked at me and then to my parents who came up behind me. “Hey honey that is another surprise we have for you… your grandparents will be arriving here soon and Aunt Savannah. I thought we could have a little family time since Savannah is on vacation for the next month. That’s only while she goes searching for new talent and she’s actually heading to London in a couple of weeks. I told her to stop here first, and we could all go along for the trip mixing it up a bit. Bruce wrapped up checking on all his other projects but would have to go at any moment if he was called, but for now he’s all ours” my father said as he hugged his brother.
My whole body lit up being excited that my family would be spending time together but wondered why my mother’s ½ sister would not be coming. “Well why aren’t we doing a whole family thing I mean with moms, sister and her father joining?” I asked wanting to know the answer even though I already knew that my father and step grandfather really did not see eye to eye at times. Had a lot to do with her step father not being in the picture much after my grandmother died over 10 years before. Bruce had raised a brow at me with his arms crossed as though I had said a bad word or something when it came to asking about my mother’s side of the family. “Well, who’s taking that one?” Bruce asked with a little laugh teasing my parents in a way that got me even more confused. My father slapped my uncle’s shoulder “How about you tell her your side since you were the one caught giving it to her aunt in her grandfather’s study at thanksgiving a few years back. Ha-ha honey it’s not that we didn’t invite them they just had other plans and are spending time with your step grandfathers new wife’s kids and grandkids in Canada. As for your aunt Brea she is busy working, off doing her own thing, and well it just wasn’t the right time for them” he said.
Over the next few minutes I was trying to picture which aunt it might had been and then remembered that Thanksgiving and realized on my own who it was. “OMG….. no….. seriously aunt Brea?” I said without even thinking about it and shocked everyone. Bruce caught me up into his arms laughing wanting to know how I knew since I had been so busy with my Nicholas and Jose who had come along that year. “Your daughter is too smart for her own good, reminds me of you, big brother” Bruce said once he finally put me down. I had the best idea as I thought about how long it would take us to get back to the house. Since my grandparents and aunt would be arriving soon, I figured I’d make us all lunch on the yacht and wait. Bruce, Victor, and my parents were impressed with my cooking skills not realizing that I had some real talent and made some killer drinks too. “Why not just forget about a huge college and just think about staying close to home and going to college to be a chef?” Bruce said as he moaned and groaned with every bite and drink, he took.
My parents were not happy with that idea at all, and I knew it was because they saw me doing bigger things with my life. “My daughter will not just be settling so don’t already put that idea crap in her mind…” “Plus if it were that easy, we wouldn’t be touring the colleges again, even though I’d love to have her close to home myself. That is for my own selfish reasons and even more so now than before” my mother said and I knew what she was referring to. I was still trying to figure out if my father had said anything to his brother about the news and revelations my parents had learned in just a few days. I was about to ask a few things when my cell phone buzzed, and I saw a number I was not familiar with. I quickly answered it anyways even though I almost never did. “Hello…..” “Hey it’s Asher I just wanted to check on you since ummm I brought everyone back and you, your parents and the yacht are gone” he said.
Asher’s phone call had upset me a little but just enough to react in a way that upset my parents “For fuck sake, tell my friends to grow the fuck up and call me instead of having you do it. My parents, myself and Capt. Vic are on the other side of the Island and will be back that way later on. So, pass that on to the crew and my so called, friends” I said before hitting the end button and slamming my phone on the table. “Mia…. You seriously need to stop snapping at other people when you are mad at your friends who are just trying to figure things out. This is new for us all and we are slowly coming to terms with it all, your friends too and they are the ones who thought they knew it all” “Your mother is right honey you just need to take a deep breath and put yourself in our shoes and then maybe you’d understand…” my father said as I got up from the table and decided I was done with lunch. I cleaned up the table making sure to clean everything and make sure I put everything back the way I found it. I knew by the look of confusion on my uncle Bruce’s face that he did not know shit and I hoped it would stay that way, but just had a sick feeling that it would not.
My father told his father just about everything that ever happened in our lives especially when it came to medical things. It was now starting to make since on why now all of a sudden my father’s family was coming out. After finishing up in the kitchen I had to ask the major question that would tell me once and for all the real reason why my grandparents were coming out to see us. After finding my parents and uncle along with Victor on the upper deck enjoying the view, I took another beat to grab a couple shots of Jack Apple wanting to rein in my temper just a little. I made a couple of drinks for the rest of them wanting to make sure they had something strong in their hands when I asked them. I had politely asked for Victor to give us privacy. He did it in a heartbeat, along with Bruce who was backing up until my father told him to stop. “We are not doing this now angel face…. We are having such a good time and you have been through enough don’t you think?” my father asked looking at me and then to my mother who was downing her wine I had passed her.
Bruce took his drink and had a seat watching us as though he was at a show and it was just about to get good. I took a deep breath trying to calm my racing heart that felt like it was ready to explode and re-worded the question. “When did you call grandma and grandpa to have them come down here? Don’t lie either because you can’t say it was a surprise for whatever reason. I’m sure that Savannah would rather be doing something else than being here with her overbearing parents and brothers who give her shit all the time. She’s more of a see you at the holiday type person, so you must have offered her something that she couldn’t pass up. You know your parents don’t leave the state, let alone the country unless she’s off busy with work” I reminded him of just how smart his daughter really was.
10 minutes later my father left us all standing there and arrived a few minutes later with a laptop from the office downstairs. I rolled my eyes only imagining what the hell he was about to show me. “Well I really didn’t want to have to do this until after grandpa got here so that he could explain to your mother and I a few things from… well your medical records. The ones that I had forwarded to me from the hospital and Dr.’s office that you had been too in the last couple of years” he said in such a calm and collected tone that I knew he wasn’t sorry at all for invading my privacy one bit. My grandfather Ethan Sr. was the best medical doctor in the world per all the medical magazines and papers he had been in over the years. He did not just know one specialty but had numerous things under his belt that ranged far back as when he was in the military himself. “WOW….. just wow the nerve you had to go behind my back and just take things that you have no business to do. Yes, you are my father and have rights, but I’m 18 year’s old so I’m just thinking to myself how you exactly got these copies since you didn’t and still don’t have my consent. For fuck sake…..” I was cut off when the jet flew overhead and landed just on the other side of us on the runway.
My uncle Bruce jumped right up needing an exit and now had one. “I’ve got this….” he said as he found his way out and left us to go pick up his parents and sister in the cart that he was using. I was now in the defense mode again and wanted to just shut down for a bit and reboot when it was convenient for me. Ethan was there with me as I went to my cabin not wanting to even look at anyone at the moment. I wondered if my father had even told my grandfather the whole story or only enough for him to worry. “It’s going to be ok dad is just being dad and he needs more answers and to know what all this means in your records. Remember he is the law not medicine like grand-dad and once he gets the answer’s he and mother for sure are looking for and understands the ends and outs of the medical terms. They will both be able to finish processing and healing from all of this” Ethan promised as I stayed locked away. I could hear the engines startup which told me we were now heading back to the house and we would have about an hour and a half together. I had sent out a quick text to Catherine, Nicholas, and Jose to warn them that we would have more company arriving and who it was.
