My mother headed out after giving me a goodnight hug and kiss leaving my father who refused to leave me right away. I stood holding the door open until he finally left, "Call Sharene because she is really upset that you won't talk to her. You need to get back into your normal routine….I get that which doesn’t just include school, but friends, normal as possible.. no matter the outcome of Billy's case. I feel for him and his situation and I even forgive him since you are the one that went to him, but what I can't do right now is forgive him for threatening to kill you. You are my one and only daughter and I will stop at nothing to return the favor if anyone ever killed you, hurt you.. and I have come close with Maxwell considering the shit he confessed to me. Anyways that's another story but for now I just want you to be a young girl and go to school have a college experience even though you have had enough for a life time in my eyes" he could not help the half laugh and half crying that escaped him.
My father took me in his arms when I stepped forward and reached out for him. "I'm doing my best, but I feel like it's my responsibility to see him through this... we have a lot in common for what it's worth... I'm not getting in to how and in which ways" I whispered as he tightened his grip around me. He did not respond since he knew he did not want to start a fight he could not win. "I'm sorry baby girl, if I ever made you feel like you lost me or your mother. I work all the time and yes that's one reason I almost lost your mother but I pulled out all the big guns and built a house she always wanted....after your brother died she was lost and didn't know how to go on and so she checked out. You should not hold that against her though because at least this go round she's much better not to mention having you as a daughter helps. You two are more friends than mother daughter which I know you have issues with, but you must admit this last month you two have really grown.... minus the blocking her in other ways" he whispered as he slowly let me go. As he slowly exited the bedroom, I was finally able to relax my body including my belly that I had sucked in the best I could not wanting them to pick up on any little thing.
As I was about to close the door JJ had gone running down the stairs shortly after my father did which told me he either heard something or needed to go out. I ran after him just as Bailey was heading up to me with a cell phone in one hand and the house phone in another. "We have major issues dear... which one first since this one is about Billy and this one is Sharene who is not hanging up until she talks with you" he frowned thrusting them both at me. I figure why not do my great multi-tasking and took them both as I chased after JJ. "JJ wait don't tinkle on the floor" I yelled out. Putting both phones to my ears I said hello to Sharene "Give me one second ok..." and did the same to the other line "Sorry for the wait this is Mia…." "Mia it's me Leona... so here is the scoop Billy is in a cell but under watch since we had an attempt on his life... I know who it was so you really need to stay clear of this for now ok..." Leona had cut me off mid-sentence. I had now been in a full on panic "Why I'm not the one they are trying to get at... and no need to tell me who it is since I got a taste once before remember and let them come after me because they will think twice.." Sharene started to scream into the phone on my other side. "Damn it Sharene calm down ok shit give me a min" I scolded putting her in my pocket.
JJ was out in the yard sniffing all about and doing his doggy business when Maureen came down. "Did you hear Billy is in a cell but in protective custody... what happened and don't lie to me!" she was now demanding to know what was going on with tears streaming down her face. I put a finger up to stop her as she came down the last step "Calm down I'm about done with the call...ok Leona sorry... as for staying away I'll do my Best but how long will it take to see the judge? What are our options?" I asked with a panic tone now. Leona hung up a few mins later while Maureen went and made tea for us so I could speak with Sharene who was now in a panic of her own. "Sharene please calm yourself and tell me what you need? I have a lot going on and you’be been told we all made it here safe and sound and by my watch it says it's about time for Madeline's bedtime and your alone time. I have early classes tomorrow and well actually today, so I need to try and get some rest..." "So that is it.... you.... I asked you to come by my new place yet you didn't instead you are taking up all your free time with HIM....I also wanted to be the one to tell you that..... I've been seeing someone and I didn't want you to find out from anyone else.." she was as loud as could be without screaming and so quickly I was not sure if I was hearing her correctly. "Wow... well I'm really happy for you... you deserve the best like I've said from the beginning. I really should go now, take care Sharene" I had no idea what else to say and hung up feeling my heart break.
My head was starting to hurt as I stepped into the living room just off the main entrance to the house and found JJ on his doggy bed and Maureen curled up on the couch and in front of the fireplace letting it warm her. "Maureen not to worry ok I will see to it that nothing happens to Billy. I have classes in the morning and the moment I get the call from Leona or my father we'll go over there ok" I promised stepping closer and taking the hot tea. We had both been cold to the touch and I knew by her thoughts she was not only an emotional wreck, but out of her mind in panic. “I just can’t lose him you know….bad enough he had me at arm’s length for this long and we just got reconnected. Please tell me everything is going to work out and that I’m not about to loose my brother over this shit here in Europe!” she begged me as she started to cry again.
We had now both been in tears letting all our panic out and leaving us both exhausted and passed out together on the couch. I woke a little after 3:50 am with JJ growling and kicking, "Hey buddy your having dreams wake up.." I whispered softly touching his ears. I sat up just a little feeling queasy and hoped I would not get sick as I had been feeling a bit better the last few mornings. I tried to a get a few more hours of sleep but no such luck when JJ had other plans. "Really... I am not sure how you know little guy but ok" I let out a yawn rolling up my shirt and letting him snuggle my belly while I laid on my side. "I know I still have to tell daddy but not sure how he will feel about it all.. have any suggestions?" I asked him as I rubbed behind his ears.
By 4:15 I was needing to pee again, and JJ wanted to go out and eat. I was dressed and ready for the day by 4:30am. JJ had gone after some squirrels and even killing a rabbit in the processes, while I watched from the window and drinking my smoothie and taking a couple burritos to go since I would be stopping at the police station before classes started. I had texted Leona at 4:58am as I had Bailey bring around the car telling her I was heading to the station to see Billy before he was transferred. She had called me instead of texting which I answered but only after getting in the SUV. "Look I have breakfast for a few of the guys along with Billy, I also need to ask him a few things and pass on a message from his sister. So, either help me by meeting me there and making things happen smoother or don't. Just thought I'd give you the curtesy of telling you instead of just keeping it from you and you getting mad about it later" I had not even let her get a word in before hanging up.
