Chapter 15: Money Requires Patience
In the suburbs, in an abandoned factory, Skyview was tied to a chair.
Jack took a phone from Skyview but couldn't unlock it.
"How do you unlock your phone?" Jack asked.
"Put the phone near my mouth," Skyview said.
Jack placed the phone near Skyview's mouth.
Skyview spoke a series of strange code words.
The phone turned on.
Jack was surprised. "This phone is too high-tech!"
Alice scoffed. "It's like a bank's voice detection system, not that high-tech."
Jack checked Skyview's contacts.
After searching for a while, Jack was puzzled. "Why don't you have any family or relatives?"
"I'm an orphan," Skyview said.
Jack scratched his head. "Then who do I ask for money?"
"My assistant, Hekka," Skyview said.
Jack immediately called Hekka.
"Is this Skyview's assistant, Hekka?" Jack asked.
"Yes," Hekka replied.
"I'm telling you, we've kidnapped Skyview. He's in our hands now. If you don't want anything to happen to Skyview, prepare one billion in cash to rescue him at Northvale Steelworks!" Jack threatened Hekka fiercely. "Don't try to call the police, or I'll kill him! By then, all you'll see is Skyview's body!"
"I need to confirm if Skyview is really kidnapped by you," Hekka calmly said, "Let Skyview speak."
Jack put the phone near Skyview's mouth, "Speak!"
"Hekka, it's me," Skyview smiled bitterly. "I'm really kidnapped."
Hekka didn't blame Skyview for being careless but said, "One billion ransom, are you willing to pay?"
"Compared to my life, one billion is nothing, but I have one condition: if I'm harmed even a bit, they won't get one billion! They'll get nothing!" Skyview said.
"Understood!" Hekka said, "It takes a day to raise one billion, even for a billionaire, it's not easy to come up with that much cash just like that!"
"I get it!" Jack licked his lips. "If you can get one billion in a day, I'd already be impressed!"
"Good," Hekka said. "I'm not Skyview's family, just an assistant. Therefore, I don't care about Skyview's life. I'm just following Skyview's orders. If you harm him, you won't get the one billion, understand? Even if you kill Skyview, it's useless. I'll verify if Skyview is harmed. Otherwise, I won't give you anything!" Hekka hung up.
"Damn, your assistant is so arrogant!" Jack couldn't help but complain.
"Of course, my assistant doesn't care if I live or die," Skyview understood that Hekka must care about him but pretended not to care, just to deceive Jack, "Hekka will only follow my orders one hundred percent. If I'm really harmed, you won't get the money!"
"Are you threatening me?" Jack's face darkened.
"Think about it, if you lay a hand on me, you may feel satisfied, but you'll lose one billion!" Skyview said calmly. "Without the money, even if you kill me, all you'll have is a murder charge. You won't get anything. It's not worth it. That's one billion! There are plenty of people willing to do anything for that amount. Endure a little, what's the big deal?"
Skyview's words were not exaggerated.
With money, anything is possible.
This is the era where money reigns supreme. Money can distort all human nature.
Including Jack's human nature.
"Fine!" Jack gritted his teeth. "For money, I'll endure!"
Jack originally wanted to threaten Hekka and then beat Skyview. Even if he didn't kill him, he wanted to make Skyview suffer, but now Jack gave up. Compared to one billion, the fleeting pleasure of revenge was not worth mentioning!
"Jack, don't let him fool you. What are you afraid of? " Alice incited. "Think about it. Skyview embarrassed you before. You have to retaliate."
"After getting the money, we can even kill Skyview. Before getting the money, I can't take the risk," Jack said, "I'm a meticulous man, I have my plan, you just shut up, bitch."
Alice was somewhat disappointed.
"Untie me quickly!" Skyview suddenly shouted. "I'm in pain from being tied up! If you don't untie me, I'll say I've been abused later, and the assistant won't give you the money!"
"Don't be so arrogant!" Jack's face turned grim.
"One billion," Skyview reminded.
One billion, money Jack couldn't earn in his lifetime!
He had to accept Skyview's request.
"Fine, untie him!" Jack said, "We'll watch you, you won't escape anyway!"
Immediately, Jack's henchmen untied Skyview.
Skyview moved his body a bit and sat on the chair.
"Give me my phone, I want to play games, this is too boring!" Skyview said to Jack again.
Jack's face showed anger.
"One billion!" Skyview said.
"I'll give you the phone, but no calls, only games!" Jack handed the phone back to Skyview, suppressing his anger.
Jack could only accept his request for the lust of one billion.
Skyview happily played games, killing many enemies in an online game, but was eventually reported by a teammate and sanctioned by the system.
"I'm hungry!" Skyview said to Jack.
"What do you want to eat?" Jack asked.
"Lobster!" Skyview said.
Jack wanted to curse.
"One billion," Skyview said lightly.
Upon hearing this, Jack felt daunted.
"We are in the suburbs, things are rough here, and there's definitely no lobster," Jack said reluctantly.
"Steak will do. And bring me two bottles of beer, got it?" Skyview smiled.
"Got it," Jack took a deep breath and said to a companion, "Go out and buy these things!"
In less than ten minutes, delicious steak and fresh beer arrived in front of Skyview.
