Chapter 297 The Down-and-Out Company

"There's no other choice," Lily blurted out. "Stellar Gaming Studios is doing better. They've got two online games raking in cash and their own property, so they're sitting pretty. But FutureTech Games? They're in deep trouble. Their new game has them in a chokehold. They've dumped a ton of money into making this high-quality single-player game, and now they're broke. Progress is crawling, way slower than they planned, and they can't recoup the costs anytime soon. FutureTech Games is sinking deeper every day!"

Skyview asked, "Would throwing $100 million at FutureTech Games get them back on track?"

"It's tough," Lily said, shaking her head. "Before I came here, I rushed a detailed market survey. Right now, in the Golden Valley gaming market, mobile gaming is where it's at. The Golden Valley has the most smartphone users in the world, which is driving crazy growth in mobile gaming. They're leading the charge, making the mobile gaming market super strong."

"Next up is the PC gaming market. It's not the king it used to be, but it's still huge and can go toe-to-toe with mobile gaming. The money it brings in is big, so it's still very profitable."

Lily continued, "Then there's the web gaming market. The main players here are middle-aged guys and working professionals, and it can also bring in good money."

Hekka chimed in, "And the worst is the single-player game market. In the Golden Valley, especially after those so-called free-to-play games that make people spend like crazy, single-player games are getting squeezed out. People's spending habits have been messed up by this awful gaming ecosystem."

She went on, "So I don't see a bright future for this game. Even if it's got a good rep and decent performance, it can't make as much money as the most basic online game, and it might not even beat web games. Saving FutureTech Games is really hard! The only things that can save them are online games and mobile games!"

Hekka laid it all out, clear and confident. It was obvious she had done her homework, backing up her points with solid logic and evidence. Even Skyview had to nod in agreement.

"Mystery Island might be a great game, but it's not getting the love it deserves. I've got a plan, though—I'm calling it the 'trash game bombardment plan,'" Skyview said with a smirk. "This time, I'm gonna teach Kaelen a lesson!"

As they talked, they reached the twenty-ninth floor. Only half of the twenty-ninth floor belonged to FutureTech Games. The other half was taken up by two small studios—one was a well-regarded educational institution, and the other was a media studio that made money by posting drone-shot videos on various platforms.

After losing many employees, FutureTech Games had to downsize significantly, leaving a lot of vacant space. To help with their money problems, they decided to lease out the unused areas to bring in some cash and keep the company afloat. This really showed just how bad things were for FutureTech Games.

As Skyview and the crew walked into FutureTech Games' office area, they saw a pretty funny sight: a girl named Leah Everly was sitting at the front desk, working on 3D modeling on her computer, with a bunch of hand-drawn sketches scattered around.

It was clear she wasn't just a graphic designer and modeler; she was also the receptionist. The fact that employees had to wear so many hats showed just how desperate FutureTech Games was.

Skyview and Hekka exchanged looks. They knew things were bad, but seeing a tech staff member doubling as a receptionist was a whole new level.

"Hey there!" Skyview greeted Leah as he walked over.

Leah looked up and saw Skyview and his group. "Are you Mr. Scott?" she asked.

Skyview, curious, replied, "You're pretty sharp. How'd you know it was me?"

Leah said, "We don't get much business. This morning, we got a call from the head office saying you'd be coming to take over FutureTech Games. And here you are, so I figured you must be Mr. Scott."

"You're really smart." Skyview laughed. "Is your company so short-staffed now? You're a game modeler and graphic designer, and you also have to be the receptionist?"

Leah gave a bitter smile. "Yeah, we're really out of money. We can't even afford a receptionist or a janitor. I'm not just a modeler; I'm also a graphic designer, sound designer, game planner, game architect, and writer. I just squeeze in some time to be the receptionist. And our janitor? That's Frederick himself. We really have no other choice. They said you're here to save us. I hope you can really pull it off, Mr. Scott!"

As Leah spoke, it was clear she didn't have much hope for Skyview. Despite being a subsidiary of the affluent Twin Group, FutureTech Games seemed neglected by its parent company, which showed little concern for its survival.

FutureTech Games had begged the Twin Group for funding, but all they got was a cold rejection. They had pretty much given up hope on the Twin Group.
