Chapter 194 Choosing the Assassin

Victoria chuckled. "Well, that's certainly a new one!"

Kaelen glanced at the two women and smiled faintly. "Indeed, it is."

Both sisters were utterly captivated by Kaelen. However, his undeniable charisma, power, and wealth kept them from daring to claim the title of "girlfriend." Oliver, with his traditional ways, paled in comparison to this wealthy heir from abroad when it came to women.

"Alright, that's enough for now," Kaelen announced, dismissing the masseuses. "I have some business to attend to. You're free to go."

As the women gathered their things and left, Kaelen opened his laptop and started navigating the shadowy depths of the dark web.

Sites like Aetheropolis, frequented by Skyview, were well-known dark web platforms. However, they were considered relatively tame. Skyview wouldn't dare venture into the truly dark corners of the web – the content there was too disturbing, enough to make even the most hardened individual shudder.

Today, Kaelen logged into a site called DarkWhisper, a notorious platform where powerful assassins from around the globe congregated. Assassins used DarkWhisper to find contracts, with the site acting as a guarantor and taking a commission. Upon successful completion of a task, the assassin received payment minus the commission. Failure to complete the task or exceeding the given timeframe resulted in a 5% compensation to the client and a 10% penalty for the assassin.

Assassins who couldn't afford the penalty suffered a credit rating downgrade, which affected their ranking on the site. If an assassin was killed or captured, DarkWhisper simply deleted their information.

Since its inception nearly 16 years ago, DarkWhisper had maintained a solid reputation, becoming the go-to platform for high-quality, notorious assassins. Kaelen had used their services before, always finding suitable candidates for their… needs.

DarkWhisper had a ranking system for its assassins. The top-ranked assassins were incredibly skilled, boasting high success rates, but their services came at a premium. Despite the cost, they were in high demand and constantly busy.

The life of an assassin was far from ordinary. Each kill required a period of decompression and mental readjustment. Otherwise, the constant killing would transform them from a calculated assassin into a deranged maniac.

Ultimately, even assassins needed to make a living. They might not necessarily enjoy killing, but it was a job, a means to an end.

Despite promising Hilda the services of the fifth-ranked assassin, Kaelen scrolled past the top assassins, eventually landing on the hundredth page. He scanned the profiles of assassins ranked over a thousand, his eyes lingering on their dismal success rates. Finally, Kaelen selected an assassin known only as Silent Strike.

Silent Strike had a paltry 10% success rate, meaning he only succeeded in one out of every ten tasks. And yet, he was ranked 1024th.

This surprisingly high ranking was due to Silent Strike's ability to pay the penalties for his failures, maintaining a decent credit rating.

"Silent Strike it is," Kaelen murmured, initiating contact.

The choice of such an unreliable assassin was deliberate. Kaelen didn't actually want Hilda to succeed. The goal was to set him up, to gain leverage over Hilda. Controling Hilda meant controling the Davis family and the Twin Group.

As for Skyview's fate, it was of little consequence to Kaelen. There was no personal vendetta, no deep-seated hatred. Skyview was merely a pawn in a much larger game.

DarkWhisper's assassins were equipped with special phones – nondescript black boxes that self-destructed if tampered with. These phones lacked SIM cards, connecting directly to a DarkWhisper satellite for secure communication.

When a client placed an order, DarkWhisper contacted the chosen assassin. The assassin could then accept or decline the contract.

Kaelen had placed the order with the woefully inadequate Silent Strike. Now, it was simply a waiting game.

The wait was short-lived.

Five minutes later, Silent Strike appeared online.
