Chapter 292 Three Tests

Kaelen was gunning for the chairman spot at Skyview and made no secret about it, stirring up a lot of chatter among the board members.

Even on that day, while John had his own dreams of taking over as chairman, he never showed the same boldness as Kaelen. Kaelen was way more aggressive and unstoppable compared to John.

"Kaelen has already established himself as a business star with several major successes. Plus, with the Darkmoon family from Skyscape City backing him, his chairmanship could really push the Twin Group into the international scene and rake in big bucks! And let's not forget, Kaelen's in his thirties, while Skyview's only in his twenties. Sure, young minds can be innovative, but they're not ready to run a big corporation yet!"

"Yeah, even though Skyview has done well with Lakeview Express, it doesn't hold a candle to Kaelen's achievements. The biggest shareholder doesn't have to be the chairman. I say we let Kaelen take the chairmanship for ten years, and then we can think about Skyview again, who'll still be just around thirty by then!"

"I'm all for Kaelen as chairman!"

At this point, a lot of board members were backing Kaelen. But there were also quite a few who were against it.

"We can't keep swapping out chairmen all the time. What will investors think of us? The Twin Group's stock price just stabilized; we can't handle more ups and downs!"

"I think the current setup works. Skyview is just a figurehead without real power, while Hekka runs the show! This has been good for leading the Twin Group and is easier for the board to manage. Kaelen is too headstrong. If he becomes chairman, we won't have any say!"

"I trust Hekka! Hekka's doing a great job right now, so why change the chairman?"

The board members against Kaelen weren't necessarily rooting for Skyview; they were more in favor of Hekka. Some recognized Hekka's skills and felt that as acting chairman, Hekka was doing a great job, so there was no need to change. Others thought that splitting power between Hekka and Skyview would weaken the chairman's authority and boost their own influence. Some were worried about stock price swings, arguing that since Skyview hadn't made any bad calls or mistakes against the Twin Group's interests, there was no need for a leadership change.

The board was really split on this. Kaelen sighed to himself, realizing he wasn't ready enough. The idea of ousting Skyview today was totally unrealistic.

"So you were after my chairman position," Skyview said coldly.

"Glad you figured it out!" Kaelen shot back. "Skyview, your grip on the position is shaky at best!"

Skyview shot back, "And how exactly do you plan to oust me? A vote? You might not have the numbers."

Kaelen chuckled. "Who says I need them to win?"

The two men locked eyes. Skyview's stare was firm. Kaelen's gaze was just as determined.

If a vote happened now, neither Skyview nor Kaelen could be sure of winning. But in this kind of showdown, Kaelen had more to gain, while Skyview had more to lose. Skyview quickly caught on to Kaelen's sneaky plan.

John suddenly jumped in, "Hey, we're all shareholders here; no need to stir up trouble. Let me share my thoughts! We shouldn't have to vote; it would just mess up our relationships."

Kaelen said, "You're right. But if we don't vote, how do we decide who gets the chairman spot?"

John replied, "The chairman should be someone with proven skills. Kaelen, you've got an impressive track record, and Skyview has shown he's capable too. So, both of you should prove your abilities fairly. The one who does better becomes chairman, and the other stays a shareholder. What do you think?"

Kaelen nodded. "That sounds fair. John, seems like you already have a plan. Why not just lay it out?"

"We could have a test," John suggested. "The Twin Group has a lot of bad assets. You two can each take on similar bad assets and turn them around. Whoever does better wins! To keep it fair, there will be three rounds, best two out of three. How about that?"

John's idea was fresh and fair, and the board members nodded in agreement. The more capable person would become chairman. This test could show who between Kaelen and Skyview was more skilled. Plus, with three rounds, it was definitely fair.

Kaelen grinned. "John's idea is solid. Voting could ruin friendships and be unfair. So, let's have three tests to see who can better improve the group's bad assets." Looking provocatively at Skyview, he pointed and said, "I'm not scared. Skyview, do you dare accept this challenge? If you're game, we'll start the tests. If not, we'll settle it with a vote!"

Kaelen and John, working together, finally revealed their true, cunning intentions. They knew they couldn't oust Skyview through a vote because Skyview's large shareholding meant he could always call for another vote with enough bribery. This could lead to a never-ending voting deadlock, which would be a huge hassle.

On the other hand, this test was fair. Kaelen was confident that his business skills were way better than Skyview's. As a Wharton School grad with over a decade of business experience, he was sure that Skyview, despite his sudden wealth and innovative ideas, wouldn't stand a chance against him in a real business competition!
