Chapter 207 I'm Laying My Cards on the Table
"Back to square one, then," Skyview said, his voice laced with steel.
"I have to protect Yosef," John stated, his jaw set firm.
Skyview arched an eyebrow. "Let me guess, you're also looking out for all your Davis Family cronies within the Twin Group."
John didn't deny it. "You see right through me."
"And I want Yosef fired," Skyview countered, his gaze unwavering.
"Therein lies our conflict," John said, pointing a finger at Willow. "And here's another: I want her gone."
Skyview's eyes narrowed. "You want to fire the woman I care about?"
"Yosef is my man," John said, his voice cold.
"So, no compromise?"
"None whatsoever." John returned the question with equal steel. "Will you budge?"
"Not a chance."
"Then let's take this to the board," John declared. "You're in the wrong here, Skyview. You'll lose. Yosef is a senior executive, Willow a mere employee. There's no precedent for firing an executive over someone of her level. It would undermine the entire management structure."
John continued, his voice laced with confidence. "Also, you can't show any evidence of harassment, but I've got proof of your attack. The board will be appalled. Whatever support you've garnered will vanish like smoke." He leaned forward, his eyes like chips of ice. "You're going down, Skyview."
John might have been forced to concede on the legal front, but he had a trump card: internal politics. He was certain the board would side with him.
"Fine," Skyview agreed, his voice deceptively calm. "Let's have this board meeting." Though he knew the odds were stacked against him, he wouldn't back down.
"Stop!" Willow cried, unable to bear the tension a moment longer. Skyview had done too much for her, fought too hard. She knew this board meeting would be his downfall. Yosef harassed her, yet the board protected its members. As John noted, executives were more valuable than regular staff.
Frustration welled up inside her. Her career was already an uphill battle, making it even harder by men like Yosef. It was all because she had kept her true identity hidden. If they knew who she really was... They wouldn't dare treat her this way.
She couldn't take it anymore. It was time to reveal her hand.
"It's alright, Willow," Skyview said, offering her a reassuring smile. "I'll handle this. I won't let them hurt you."
"Thank you, Skyview," Willow said, her voice thick with emotion. "Thank you for everything. But I need to do this myself. I can't keep relying on you."
"Do it yourself?" Skyview echoed, his mind flashing back to Nicholas' luxury car. He nodded slowly. "Alright. Handle it your way." He had a feeling Willow wasn't as ordinary as she seemed.
"John," Willow said, turning her gaze to the older man, her eyes filled with disappointment. "I'm truly disappointed in you."
John shrugged, his expression indifferent. "Don't be naive, Willow. This is the real world."
"I know," she shot back, her voice firm. "But I don't accept it."
John laughed, a harsh, humorless sound. "And what will you do about it? You're nothing but a cog in the Twin Group machine. You think Skyview will save you? He's the one about to crash and burn."
"I came here wanting to experience life as an ordinary person, to connect with people like you on an equal footing," Willow said, her voice low and steady. "But all I received was harassment, disrespect, and humiliation." Her eyes hardened, a newfound resolve shining through. "So be it. I'm done pretending. It's time you knew who I am."
"Don't be ridiculous," John scoffed, though a flicker of unease crossed his face. "You're delusional. What grand identity are you hiding?"
"My name is Willow," she declared, her voice ringing with quiet power. "I am a Link. And to some, I am also a White."
"What are you babbling about?" John started to say, but then his face paled as if he had just remembered something terrifying.
'The Links? As in...the Links of Golden Isle City? That Link family?' he suddenly felt a chill upon his spine.
Calmly, Willow laid out her lineage, mentioning relatives whose names held weight and commanded respect.
"Impossible," John whispered, his face ashen. "This...this can't be true."
Skyview, too, was stunned. He stared at Willow, a slow smile spreading across his face. "So you're a White..."
Willow met his gaze, her expression unreadable. "Surprised?"
"Just like I went from delivering takeout to running a billion-dollar company," Skyview said, his voice filled with wonder. "I've learned to expect the unexpected. The White family... It suits you. But no matter what, you're still my woman.
