Chapter 198 A Scream of Agony
It was prime working hours, and Willow was diligently at her desk. Common sense dictated that Skyview shouldn't interrupt, but Skyview cared little for common sense.
He was Skyview, heir to the Twin Group, and within these walls, his word was law.
A birthright, not earned, but his nonetheless.
Arrogance, thy name was Skyview.
Money, he'd discovered, was a potent drug. It didn't make one talented, but it masked the lack of it. Without it, one was a nobody, plagued by self-doubt and insecurity. With it, one was a god, confidence radiating from him or her very pores. Money might not solve everything, but it solved most things, especially the practical problems humans faced.
Even nations bowed to its power. How could someone who controlled such vast wealth not be confident?
Skyview was confident.
Obnoxiously so.
'But then, what is a billionaire without a touch of arrogance?' Skyview thought it with a complacent smile.
He arrived at the business department, a space he paid particular attention to because of Willow.
It wasn't the most crucial department in the Twin Group, but it was vital, and Willow's direct placement there spoke volumes about her abilities.
The scene that greeted him was not to his liking.
The air buzzed with chatter, employees whispering amongst themselves, a distinct lack of discipline hanging in the air.
This was his company, his money! And they were squandering it, treating the place like a social club.
Lily, sensing his displeasure, let out a delicate cough.
Silence descended instantly, all eyes turning to her with a mixture of fear and respect.
Skyview was a new face, but Lily, Hekka's right hand and a fixture in the Twin Group, was a known entity.
"Who's in charge here?" Skyview demanded, frowning.
"Mr. Brooks, sir," Lily replied smoothly. "Seems he's gotten a little too comfortable."
At this moment, a woman with a stylish bob and a sharp business suit approached them.
"Lily, good to see you," she greeted respectfully.
"Ms. Reyes, Deputy Manager of the business department," Lily introduced her to Skyview.
Despite sharing the same title, their positions within the company hierarchy were vastly different. Hekka, as acting chairwoman, wielded considerable power, and Lily, by extension, held sway over most departments.
The business department was no exception.
"Ms. Reyes, this lack of discipline is unacceptable," Skyview said coldly. "I will be back. If I witness a repeat of this, you and your manager can clear your desks."
"Of... of course, sir, we'll do better," Ms. Reyes stammered, unsure of who this man was but unwilling to challenge him with Lily standing beside him.
The Twin Group was vast, and while Skyview's presence on the board was known, most senior executives had yet to meet him. A mid-level manager like Ms. Reyes wouldn't be familiar with him.
Still, his association with Lily spoke volumes, and she wisely chose to accept the reprimand.
"Now then, there's a woman called Willow here, recent hire," Skyview continued, scanning the room but not seeing her. "As far as I'm aware, she has no external meetings scheduled. Where is she?"
"Mr. Brooks called her to his office, sir," Ms. Reyes replied. "He likely has a task for her."
"And where would that office be?"
Ms. Reyes gestured towards a lavishly furnished office at the far end. "That's his, sir."
At that moment, a bloodcurdling scream ripped through the air. It was undeniably Mr. Brooks, and it was coming from his office.
"That's Mr. Brooks!" Ms. Reyes exclaimed, her face paling. "What on earth..."
"Let's see," Skyview said calmly, and together they made their way towards the source of the commotion.
As they reached the office door, it burst open, revealing a furious Willow.
Peering inside, they saw the so-called Mr. Brooks sprawled on the floor, clutching his groin, sweat beading on his forehead, his expression one of pure agony.
"Skyview?" Willow blinked in surprise, a flicker of embarrassment crossing her features.
"Willow, what's going on here?" Skyview asked, already piecing together the events. "This gentleman is Mr. Brooks, your manager?"
"Yes, it is! Mr. Brooks, what happened?" Ms. Reyes rushed to his side; concern etched on her face.
The man, eyes blazing with pain and humiliation, pointed a trembling finger at Willow. "That woman! She assaulted me! Security! Get security! I'm calling the police! She's going to jail!" As he spoke, his body spasmed, another wave of pain shooting through his most sensitive area.
"Willow! How dare you attack Mr. Brooks! Have you lost your mind?" Ms. Reyes rounded on her, then barked at a nearby employee, "Call security! Now! Assaulting her manager, she must be trying to get fired!"
The employee scurried off to obey.
Willow, however, simply crossed her arms and snorted, her disdain for the man on the floor palpable.
