Chapter 216 Deliberately Annoying Him

Since Kaelen already said sorry, Willow didn't need to be so mad; that was just over the top. "It's fine, Kaelen," Willow said, trying to keep her cool. "We're from different times, you know. A bit of a generation gap is normal."

Kaelen tensed up, sensing her pushback. Sure, he was almost thirty, but that wasn't old. Couples often had a few years between them. Her comment, though, made him feel out of place.

"What are you talking about, Willow?" Nicholas cut in, sounding annoyed. "Kaelen's basically our age. "

The Link Family didn't get to mess around with love marriages. They got perks from the family's status, and they had to give back. That was just how it worked. Plus, the family always picked well.

For Nicholas, marriage was a deal, and love was just a biological thing. It didn't need feelings, just a well-thought-out contract that worked for both sides.

And Kaelen, in Nicholas's eyes, was perfect for Willow. He came from the powerful Darkmoon Family and had his own money. He could give Willow a fancy life and high social status. He was polite, good-looking, and any private slip-ups were minor.

From every practical angle, Kaelen was a great catch. Nicholas couldn't get why Willow was against it. It made no sense. This arranged marriage was a big move for the family, a smart alliance. Willow was the best choice, and he wouldn't let her stubbornness ruin it.

But Willow wasn't budging. Kaelen, feeling more and more stuck, tried to think of a way to win her over. He couldn't believe he couldn't charm a girl her age.

"Don't worry about her, Kaelen," Nicholas said, forcing a smile. "Willow's always been headstrong."

"It's okay," Kaelen replied, also forcing a smile. "A strong woman is something to admire."

"Kaelen," Willow said, with a slight pout, "I told you, there's a generation gap."

"Looks like I didn't make a great first impression." Kaelen admitted. "Maybe you have some wrong ideas about me?"

"Not at all, Kaelen," Willow said, rolling her eyes. "I just have a lot of respect for my elders."

"You've got it wrong," Kaelen insisted. "I'm pretty modern, you know. I like the same stuff as you young folks."

Willow stayed silent. Kaelen started to wonder, ' Do young people like Willow have more exciting ways to have fun?'

"So, what are you into?" he asked, sounding a bit desperate.

"I play online games," Willow said flatly. Kaelen was at a loss for words.

"There you go, Kaelen," Nicholas jumped in, seeing his confusion. "Just regular hobbies. Don't overthink it. Why don't you swap contact info? I'm sure you'll find plenty to chat about."

A hint of victory flashed across Willow's face. This was exactly what she wanted. She was dead set against this arranged marriage, especially with someone like Kaelen, whose personal life was a mess. Protecting herself from this was only natural. Her plan was to make him see they didn't fit, to make him back out.

What she didn't count on was how much Kaelen stood to gain from this marriage. As long as it worked for him, her feelings didn't matter. And she also didn't realize how interested he was in her.
