Chapter 260 Come Out

"Yeah, you're right," Skyview said, puffing out his chest, "I can tell you've been through some stuff. Doesn't really match the innocent act, huh? At first, I thought you might be out to get me, but an assassin? That seemed a bit much." He paused, soaking in his own self-importance. "But I'm not just anyone."

Lily fought the urge to roll her eyes. Hekka had covered all bases when prepping for Skyview's inheritance. His background was thoroughly checked, every move watched. Lily knew exactly how many times Skyview had tangled with Alice. She knew very well that Skyview was bragging. He was such a liar.

Eulalia gave Skyview a cold stare. "Then enlighten me. Show off your brilliant deduction. Impress me, and maybe I'll give you a little reward. A kiss, perhaps, before I end your miserable life. Or maybe I'll visit your grave next year."

"Elementary, my dear Eulalia," Skyview said, loving the attention. "First off, anyone coming after me would do their homework. They'd know I'm loaded, and taking me out would have consequences. So, it makes sense you're here to kill me."

"That's it?" Eulalia asked, clearly amused. "That's your big deduction?"

"Of course not," Skyview said, waving her off. "There's also your backpack. Looks pretty normal at first, right? Maybe a bit bigger than usual, but could easily be a hiker's pack. But I know what it really is: a high-tech storage unit, made from nano-alloy, with a combo lock, designed to hide valuable or dangerous stuff. And the camouflage coating? Genius. Makes most security systems useless. You could be packing a small arsenal in there, and no one would know."

Eulalia's eyebrows shot up. "You seem to know a lot about this storage unit."

"Let's just say I had a sharp mentor back at the Maplebrook Institute of Technology," Skyview said, smirking. "He specialized in specialized gear. This particular piece was his design. I'd recognize it anywhere. And let's be real, people who carry these things fall into two groups: agents and assassins. Now, this model has one small flaw: weight. Add a few tools of the trade, like a gun or two, and it gets pretty heavy. But you carry it with ease. No ordinary person could do that. So, assassin it is."

"Couldn't I be an agent?" Eulalia countered, though she didn't sound convinced.

"No way," Skyview declared. "An agent working in Golden Valley with that kind of confidence would have to be Evalian. And I doubt the Twin Group is on their hit list. Even if they were, their methods are way more subtle. Coercion, manipulation, promises of power... that's their style. You're way too direct. No, Evalian you're not."

Skyview's logic seemed solid, even impressive, but it was just a fancy story. He already knew Eulalia's job; he was just making up a believable tale to explain his "deduction."

Eulalia, though, was totally buying it. "Color me impressed," she said, clapping slowly. "Your observation skills are truly something."

Skyview beamed, soaking in the praise. "Thank you for your compliment."

"It's just a shame," Eulalia continued, her voice turning icy, "that all that brainpower won't save you. But you won't die alone. The lovely lady by your side... she'll keep you company in the afterlife."

Skyview threw back his head and laughed, the sound echoing through the trees. "You seem awfully confident for someone who's about to fail. How can you be sure no one will help me?"

Eulalia felt a sudden prickle of unease. "Don't be shy," Skyview called out. "Come out, come out, wherever you are."

A dark figure dropped from the trees, landing silently on the path in front of them. Suzanne, dressed in black from head to toe, her expression unreadable, looked at Eulalia with a mix of amusement and disdain.

"Eulalia," she said, her voice cold. "I thought you were a mercenary, not an assassin. Some things never change, do they? Your luck is as bad as ever."
