Chapter 257 Instinctive Teasing

"Yeah, that's me," Skyview admitted without a hint of shame. "Honestly, it's not my fault! You're just too stunning; I can't help myself."

"You're so shameless!" Lily's cheeks turned bright red. "If you keep flirting, I'm done talking to you!"

Skyview laughed, totally unfazed. "Thanks for the compliment, but you're wrong. I'm not shameless; I'm bold. Really bold." He'd learned that in this world, being bold wasn't a flaw—it was a necessity.

Lily sighed inwardly, feeling a wave of helplessness. At least his flirting was just talk, and as his assistant, she couldn't exactly ignore him. Compared to the sleazy older guys in their line of work, Skyview's youthful arrogance was almost refreshing. Still, a sense of melancholy settled over her.

Sensing her mood shift, Skyview quickly changed the subject. "Having you with me, putting you in danger...it's not fair to you."

"It's nothing!" Lily smiled reassuringly. "With Suzanne covertly keeping an eye on us, there's no risk at all. You wouldn't believe how capable she is. A trained operative, licensed to carry, too. Ordinary assassins are no match for her. Besides," she added, lightening her tone, "you shouldn't romanticize assassins. They're just people, with varying degrees of skill. None of them hold a candle to someone like Suzanne."

Lily knew real life wasn't an action movie. Most assassins were far from glamorous; specialists in one area, maybe, but otherwise ordinary. The fact that they'd gone to such lengths to draw Suzanne away spoke volumes about their fear, and by extension, their inferiority. But for now, Suzanne had to stay hidden to avoid scaring the other party away.

Skyview, the bait, was out in the open. The assassin, a predator in the shadows, stalked him. And Suzanne, the apex predator, hunted them both.

"Still," Skyview murmured, looking at the scenery, "there's always a risk." He turned back to Lily, his expression serious. "Let's find a quieter spot, just the two of us. I want to talk."

The playful glint in his eyes was gone. Lily, always perceptive, got it instantly. He was setting a trap, creating an opportunity for the assassin. Mystic Mountain, even on a weekday, was packed with tourists. Too public and too risky, even for the boldest of assassins.
