Chapter 20: Forgive Him
"It's Jack's godfather," Lily said.
"Is his godfather into men?" Skyview maliciously remarked.
But upon reflection, Skyview found it unlikely.
With Jack's unattractive appearance, even wealthy and influential gay men wouldn't show any interest in Jack. After all, there are plenty of handsome young men in the world, so why would they choose Jack?
Skyview just particularly disliked Jack, hence the comment.
Lily, a sharp woman, immediately caught Skyview's insinuation and felt disgusted.
Glancing at Skyview, Lily said, "Can you not be so disgusting?"
Skyview replied seriously, "I was just kidding."
Lily couldn't be bothered to argue with Skyview and continued, "Jack is quite ordinary, but Jack's mother's first love is a prominent figure in the city named Skyler Everett. Skyler, a self-made man from a humble background, has a fortune of over a billion dollars today!"
Upon hearing that Skyler's net worth was only over a billion, Skyview felt disdainful.
"Just over a billion in net worth, yet he dares to oppose me!" Skyview arrogantly stated. "I, on the other hand, am worth five billion."
Lily paused for a moment and said, "He earned money by himself, you inherited wealth. He's a self-made billionaire, you're an heir!"
"That doesn't mean he's wealthier than me!" Skyview retorted. "What business is he in?"
"Real estate!" Lily replied. "He's a renowned real estate tycoon in the city, with strong connections. "
"So, he's quite impressive?" Skyview inquired.
"Not just impressive," Lily emphasized, "but rather formidable!"
"Can he challenge the Twin Group?" Skyview asked.
"He definitely can't afford to provoke the Twin Group," Lily sneered, "Although he's influential, compared to the Twin Group, it's like the difference between a top 30 company and a top 3 company."
"Does he dare to challenge me?" Skyview wondered. "As a self-made man, he should be quite smart, right?"
Without mercy, Lily struck back at Skyview, saying, "While he may not dare to challenge the Twin Group, he might dare to challenge you!"
"What?" Skyview exclaimed. "Doesn't he know I'm the chairman of the Twin Group?"
"I don't know about that, but he probably doesn't care. Although you're nominally the chairman of the Twin Group, the employees don't really acknowledge you. While the Twin Group is powerful, that doesn't mean you are. Why wouldn't he dare to challenge you? Besides, you inherited five billion, but you can only use a fraction of that," Lily explained.
"He must have considered all these things; that's why he dares to intervene to protect Jack, right?" Skyview asked.
"Most likely," Lily responded. "If Jack were just an ordinary subordinate, he might have sacrificed him. But since Jack is his godson and the son of his first love, there's a sense of obligation that prevents him from abandoning Jack."
"The Twin Group won't step in to deal with Skyler for me, right?" Skyview inquired.
Instead of a direct answer, Lily said, "If you can single-handedly handle Skyler, your prestige within the group will greatly improve. It will earn more favor from board members."
"Do you think I can handle Skyler?" Skyview asked.
"Skyler may have a net worth of over a billion, but his cash on hand is around a billion as well. In terms of wealth utilization, there isn't much difference between you. However, if Skyler decides to get serious, he could easily gather ten billion in cash through bank loans," Lily explained.
"So, you mean Skyler has more liquid assets than me?" Skyview clarified.
"You could interpret it that way. Additionally, Skyler has strong connections in both the underworld and with the police. He's very capable, and his team is quite united," Lily added.
Frowning, Skyview asked, "What advantages do I have over him?"
Lily thought for a moment and managed to find an advantage for Skyview. "You're younger than him."
"I'm probably more handsome than him," Skyview suggested.
"Perhaps!" Lily neither flattered nor undermined him, she was simply stating the possibility.
"Let's just forgive him." Skyview looked out the window and said, "I'm not someone who holds grudges. Since Skyler, a prominent figure in the business world, has intervened, I'll show him respect and let Jack go this time!"
"Who was it that insisted on severe punishment earlier?" Lily chuckled, covering her mouth.
Hearing Lily's response, Skyview said, "Lily, I was thinking of inviting you to dinner, but I've decided against it."
At this moment, at the company, Cloudscape Realty Limited, Skyler glared at Jack with anger.
"Jack, how many times have I told you to only engage in legitimate business? When you were collecting protection fees, I turned a blind eye. But this time, you resorted to kidnapping. That's a very serious felony. If I didn't have connections in the judicial department, you would have landed in jail!" Skyler pointed at Jack, his voice filled with fury.
Skyler was in his fifties, approaching sixty, the prime of a man's career. Typically, a country's leader would be around this age. In the business world, Skyler was a pillar of the industry.
Skyler's appearance wasn't unpleasant; in fact, he was quite dignified, exuding authority with his square face.
In front of Skyler, Jack couldn't even muster the courage to speak up.
After Skyler finished speaking, Jack finally spoke up, "Dad, I had a grudge against Skyview. This time, it was mainly for revenge, and the kidnapping was just incidental. Besides, it was mainly Alice who incited me. I was momentarily blinded by anger and made a mistake!"
"Alright, stop making excuses. I know you're easily swayed by money," Skyler said wearily. "But since it's already happened, let it go. However, remember this, you're not to provoke Skyview again! I won't save you a second time!"
Shocked by Skyler's seriousness, Jack exclaimed, "Skyview is just a trust fund kid; what is there we have to fear from him?"
