Chapter 256 Attracting Assassins
"Are you seriously suggesting we sink to his level?" Lily blurted out, eyes wide with shock. "Hire a hitman to take out Kaelen?"
Skyview nodded, a cold glint in his eyes. "For guys like Kaelen and me, assassins are just another tool. He thought he could get rid of me easily. Well, I'm not just alive, I'm about to make him sweat. Whether the hit works or not doesn't matter. The message is clear: I'm not scared, and I can play dirty too. If he's smart, he'll back off. But honestly? I'd rather see him dead."
Hekka nodded. "Exactly. It's about sending a message, showing them we won't be pushed around. Otherwise, they'll smell weakness and keep coming."
"And then there's the Davis family," Skyview added, his voice icy. "They might be mixed up in this mess too."
"My investigation points to Hilda," Hekka confirmed. "He and Kaelen were college buddies and have been in close contact recently. Hilda hates you even more than Kaelen does. He's probably involved."
"Then I need solid proof," Skyview declared, his jaw tight. "Proof I can use against them."
Underneath Skyview's calm exterior, a storm was brewing. The nerve of Kaelen and Hilda to plot a hit on him over petty grudges was infuriating. He wouldn't let this slide. Retaliation was the only option.
Hekka's eyes narrowed. "You're thinking about..."
A sly smile spread across Skyview's face. "You know me too well. I'll use this evidence to force the Davis family to give up their shares in the Twin Group. It's all part of my plan to weaken their hold on the company. I don't need them gone completely, just demoted. Once they're no longer the second-largest shareholder, that pompous fool, John, will be powerless."
Hekka sighed. "It won't be easy. The Davis family won't go down without a fight. You'll need undeniable proof."
"Then let's focus on drawing out our assassin," Skyview said, eyes gleaming with ambition.
Cascade Group Hotel. Presidential Suite.
Eulalia finished her workout, her chest heaving as she caught her breath. Hilda and Thelonius watched in awe. Her movements were precise, each strike radiating power that belied her small frame.
"I've been patient long enough," Eulalia said, her voice tinged with impatience. "Your plan was set in motion yesterday. Why haven't we seen results?"
"These things take time," Thelonius assured her. "The Crimson Shadows are the best in the business. It's only a matter of time."
Hilda frowned. "Your skills are impressive, but come on, this is the age of firearms. Why not just use a gun? Way more efficient."
Eulalia rolled her eyes. "You think I haven't used a gun before? My missions in Evalia often required one. My aim might not be as good as Blackwing Suzanne's, but it's decent. And before you ask, Golden Valley has strict gun control laws. How do you expect me to get one past airport security?"
Hilda blushed, realizing his mistake. "Right, of course. My bad."
Just then, Thelonius's phone rang. His eyes lit up when he saw the caller ID: Hayden.
"Mr. Darkmoon," Hayden's voice boomed through the phone, "Jaxon is in our custody. We've contacted Suzanne, and she's on her way with the ransom money. The job's done. Time to pay up."
"Are you sure?" Thelonius pressed, needing confirmation. "Do you have proof?"
"Are you doubting the Crimson Shadows?" Hayden chuckled. "I'll send you some photos."
The line went dead. Moments later, Thelonius's phone pinged with two photos: one of Jaxon strung up, the other of him being whipped.
"Efficient, as always," Thelonius muttered, a hint of admiration in his voice. "Wire the funds to the Crimson Shadows immediately."
It wasn't that he didn't want to cheat them; he just couldn't afford to. The Crimson Shadows held significant power in Golden Valley. Crossing them for a measly 15 million wasn't worth the risk.
"So, the plan worked?" Eulalia asked, her voice flat.
"It did," Thelonius confirmed.
"Excellent," Eulalia said, a predatory gleam in her eyes. "Let's get started."
"First," Thelonius said, pulling out his phone, "we need to find Skyview."
He made a quick call, his face breaking into a smug grin as he got the info. "Well, well. Looks like Skyview has taken his little assistant for a romantic getaway to Mystic Mountain. What a charmer. Just days ago, he was chasing after Willow, and now he's moved on to his assistant."
Mystic Mountain.
Skyview and Lily strolled along the mountain path, the breathtaking scenery of Golden Isle City spread out before them. They looked every bit the happy couple.
"People are going to think we're an item," Skyview remarked, glancing at Lily with a playful glint in his eyes.
"What would they say?" Lily asked, a faint blush creeping up her neck.
"They'd say we're a perfect match," Skyview replied, his voice laced with amusement.
Lily laughed, playfully shoving him. "You're impossible!"
