Chapter 237 Parting on Bad Terms
The room was dead quiet. It only took a few minutes. A USB drive that started at ten million bucks shot up to a jaw-dropping two hundred million! Nobody could believe Kaelen pulled it off. It felt like the world just flipped upside down.
"How did that even happen?"
"Seriously, how?"
Whispers buzzed through the crowd.
Skyview glanced at the stunned auctioneer, sounding a bit impatient. "Did you miss the part where Skyscape City's golden boy just pledged 200 million to help underprivileged kids? Hello? Earth to auctioneer? Let's get that hammer down! Kaelen's feeling generous, don't keep him waiting. Or do you think he can't pay up?"
The auctioneer snapped out of it. "Right! Of course!" He looked around the room, his voice back to its usual hype. "Two hundred million dollars, going once!"
"Two hundred million dollars, going twice!"
"Two hundred million dollars, going three times!"
"Two hundred million dollars, sold! To Kaelen of Skyscape City, for this special USB drive donated by Mr. Scott in Ms. Link's name! Congrats, Mr. Darkmoon!"
"And I gotta correct myself! I thought the seal was the highest bid we'd ever see at the Brighter Futures Ball, but this USB drive just smashed that record! And guess what, both were donated in Ms. Link's honor! Clearly, she's our lucky charm tonight!"
"I bet Ms. Link must be a real stunner. Why else would two such eligible bachelors go all out to impress her? Lucky lady indeed!" The auctioneer chuckled, his words dripping with amusement. He'd seen rich guys try to win a woman's heart before, but this? This was next-level.
Many of the female celebs there felt a twinge of envy. Eighty million! Two hundred million! For one woman! But as they got to know more about Willow, the envy faded, turning into a grudging respect. They got it now.
The auction was wrapping up. After Kaelen's $80 million seal and Skyview's $200 million USB drive, nothing else could top that.
"Kaelen," Skyview said, a triumphant smirk on his face. "Thanks to your generosity, Willow's the star of the night."
Kaelen fought the urge to wipe that smug look off Skyview's face. "Don't get cocky, Skyview," he growled, his voice low and dangerous. "This isn't over. Watch your step."
"Chill, Kaelen, I've got this." Skyview casually draped an arm around Willow's waist, his eyes gleaming with challenge. "Willow's mine. You never stood a chance. Stick to what you're good at, hmm? Like Calix."
Kaelen saw red. "Enjoy it while it lasts." He couldn't stand being in the same room as Skyview for another second. He'd come here to humiliate Skyview, but it had backfired big time.
"Kaelen, wait," Nicholas called out, trying to fix the situation. But Kaelen didn't even look back, his anger driving him towards the exit. His alliance with the Link Family was shaky now, and he didn't care about showing respect anymore.
Nicholas watched him go, a flicker of annoyance crossing his face. Kaelen's behavior was out of line.
"Don't bother with him, Nicholas," Skyview said, his voice dripping with disdain. "You're really gonna let Willow marry someone like that? You're the prestigious Link Family. You don't need this marriage alliance that badly."
