Chapter 290 Deal
Hekka's investigation was super quick. As the real boss of the Twin Group, she had a ton of power. Kaelen had been sneaking around, teaming up with John, but Hekka didn't catch on because it all happened so fast. Once she got her team moving, it only took Hekka fifteen minutes to figure out what was going on.
"When you went with the prosecutor's office to arrest the Davis family, you saw Kaelen, right?" Hekka asked Skyview while checking her laptop. "That day, John sold his shares to Kaelen, making him the second-biggest shareholder in the Twin Group. Kaelen's way more dangerous than John—he's young, energetic, and has a lot of power. We totally got blindsided this time!"
Skyview replied, "I honestly didn’t see this coming. It all happened right under my nose and I didn’t even notice."
Hekka went on, "From what I found out, about a third of the directors who used to back the Davis family are now supporting Hilda. Hilda's been working hard to win them over, probably offering them all sorts of perks. Right now, I control less than a third of the board, and the rest are mostly undecided."
"Even though they don't have strong opinions, I'm lucky they're not on Kaelen's side; otherwise, I'd be in real trouble," Skyview said with a bitter smile. "What really hurts is Mason's betrayal. To get his loyalty, I gave him some shares of Lakeview Express. He made a ton of money from it and still stabbed me in the back. That traitor deserves no mercy!"
Skyview's anger only grew at the mention of Mason. He had been good to Mason, but Mason's betrayal felt like a slap in the face.
Hekka sighed deeply. "Mason is all about the money. He'd betray his own country for the right price, let alone us. But it's not all bad news. Dylan left you 19% of the shares. Even with Kaelen and Mason teaming up, their influence only slightly outweighs yours." Hekka tried to comfort Skyview.
Still fuming, Skyview said, "I was all set to take down the Davis family, but now with Kaelen messing things up, my plan to fully control the Twin Group is pretty much shot."
Hekka said, "The Twin Group is a huge company; it's tough to control. But you're really capable, and you shouldn't be scared of taking on Kaelen, right?"
"Of course, I'm not scared," Skyview replied. "I can even turn this around to make more money! Kaelen thinks he's outsmarted me and ruined my plans, but he doesn't know I never had high hopes for Lakeview Express. This time, I can use the situation to make more money and get richer! With this, I'd have $5 billion in assets. Even without touching the $49.9 billion inheritance, it would be enough to compete with Kaelen! The Twin Group is mine, and no one can take it away!"
Facing Kaelen's sudden challenge, Skyview wasn't scared or down. Instead, he was fired up!
In half an hour, the paused board meeting was back on. And the video call with Erin was reconnected. By now, Erin wasn't on the train anymore but chilling in a presidential suite at a hotel.
"Erin, you there?" Skyview asked.
Erin smiled and said, "Yeah, but I'm beat. Let's wrap up this round of negotiations quickly so I can catch a few hours of sleep. I've got more meetings lined up. My schedule's crazy."
"That's a sign you're killing it in your career," Skyview remarked.
Erin replied, maybe seriously or maybe just offhandedly, "But I'm not happy. I'm actually not into money. The happiest time of my life was when I was a teacher."
Sensing Erin was about to dive into a story, Skyview cut in, "Let's get down to business. I know your life story well. No need to go over it again."
Erin realized she should probably stop sharing too much life advice with younger folks. "Alright!" Erin asked, "So, have you got the Twin Group on the same page?"
"Yeah," Skyview said, keeping a straight face. "My price is still $7 billion! $7 billion is my bottom line. If it's lower than that, there's no point in selling!"
Thinking about the soon-to-be-opened Altalia financial market, Erin smiled and said, "Let me give you some very good news. We thoroughly considered your $7 billion offer and decided to accept it!"
"Accept?" Skyview was a bit surprised but mostly thrilled. He gave a thumbs-up and praised, "Erin, you're amazing! In that case, let's have a successful partnership!"
Skyview wasn't the only one over the moon; the whole Twin Group was buzzing. Lakeview Express had been a headache for the Twin Group, always needing financial support. Selling it for even $1 billion would've been tough. But now, it was sold for $7 billion. This cash boost would definitely make the Twin Group's financial report for the year look a lot better.
"To a successful partnership!" Erin said with a slight smile. "Sign the contract with our team. Goodbye." With that, Erin ended the video call.
At this point, a business manager from Erin's company, ApexTech Group, stepped forward, extended his hand to Skyview, and said warmly, "Mr. Scott, congrats on the successful deal. Here's to a fruitful partnership."
"To a fruitful partnership," Skyview replied, shaking the person's hand. "Is the contract ready?"
"Yes, it's all set!" A poised lawyer, elegantly dressed, handed over the hefty contract.
Skyview, not interested in reading it line by line, tossed it to Hekka with a playful grin. "Hekka, take a look at this for me!"
"You're so lazy!" Hekka teased, casting an affectionate glance at Skyview before meticulously reading through the document.
