Chapter 193 The Fifth-ranked Hitman
"Skyview?" Kaelen echoed, a hint of amusement in his voice. "And who might this Skyview be?"
"Just some lucky bastard," Hilda spat, unable to keep the envy from his voice. "He's the chairman of the Twin Group now, if you can believe it."
Kaelen chuckled. "You sound awfully jealous."
Hilda sighed. "Wouldn't you be? He's younger than us, started out as a glorified delivery boy... even his girlfriend dumped him because he was such a loser. Then, overnight, he inherits a fifty-billion-dollar fortune. Fifty billion! It's enough to make anyone sick."
"A true rags-to-riches tale," Kaelen drawled, his voice thick with sarcasm. "The poor delivery boy, through sheer grit and determination, inherits a life-changing fortune. How inspiring."
"This is serious, Kaelen," Hilda said, his voice tight with frustration.
"Alright, alright," Kaelen conceded, his tone softening slightly. "Truth be told, I'm a little jealous myself. Fifty billion... even with the Darkmoon family fortune, I'm only set to inherit a measly twenty."
Hilda nearly choked. "A measly twenty? I'm only going to see about a billion!"
"Ah, there it is," Kaelen said, a knowing smirk in his voice. "The green-eyed monster rears its ugly head. You want this Skyview dead because you envy his good fortune. That's a bit pathetic, don't you think? Even if you killed him, you wouldn't inherit a dime. There will always be someone richer than you, Hilda."
Kaelen was clearly enjoying himself, twisting the knife while Hilda stewed in his own resentment.
"It's not just about the money," Hilda insisted, his voice tight with frustration. "The Davis family is the second-largest shareholder in the Twin Group. After Dylan died, the chairmanship should have been mine. But then Skyview shows up and steals it out from under me."
Even Kaelen couldn't maintain his mocking tone at that.
It was clear that Hilda was grasping at straws, trying to justify his thirst for revenge.
As if sensing his own weakness, Hilda pressed on. "And Shark Live? Skyview orchestrated that whole mess. He ruined my company, destroyed my reputation... I'm simply returning the favor. An eye for an eye."
"Now that," Kaelen said, his voice regaining its earlier amusement, "is a much more compelling argument. So, how were you planning to pull this off? Poisoned canapés? A tragic boating accident?"
"I was thinking something a little more... direct," Hilda said, his voice cold and resolute. "A professional. With a gun. Skyview has a bodyguard, a woman. She's good, so it'll have to be someone who can handle themselves."
"Say no more," Kaelen said, a hint of excitement creeping into his voice. " Consider it done. I' get you the fifth-ranked hitman on the dark web. Twenty million, and I'll have Skyview pushing up daisies. Deal?"
"Deal," Hilda said, his voice firm.
"Excellent," Kaelen said. "Now, where are you at the moment? Still slumming it in Golden Isle City?"
"Yes," Hilda replied.
"Good," Kaelen said. "Come to the Moonlight Island Resort. I'm staying there now."
Hilda's heart sank. He had hoped to avoid a face-to-face meeting, knowing full well that Kaelen would relish the opportunity to lord his power over him.
But he was in no position to refuse.
"I'll be there as soon as possible," Hilda said, his voice resigned.
As he hung up the phone, a wave of despair washed over him. He was in bed with Kaelen now, and there was no telling what the price of his allegiance would be.
But then, a flicker of hope ignited within him. Kaelen was resourceful, connected, and utterly ruthless. Perhaps, with Kaelen in his corner, Shark Live could be salvaged.
Meanwhile, at the historic Moonlight Island Resort, Kaelen lounged on a plush sofa, two beautiful women – identical twins, Victoria and Mona Wendell, as he liked to call them – tending to his every need.
"Who was that, darling?" Victoria purred, her voice a silken whisper.
"An old friend," Kaelen said, a predatory gleam in his eyes. "One who's about to become very useful indeed. Time to set a trap..."
