Chapter 38: Nothing Left
Connor knew he was in deep trouble.
His company had now been acquired by the Twin Group. He had been fired from his position as the manager by Skyview, leaving him with no advantage at all.
But that wasn't the main issue.
Connor understood very well that the main reason he could be with beautiful women was money. And in reality, he didn't have much money of his own; it all came from his parents. Even though he was an only child, he didn't have control over the family finances.
Everyone in the world could never have enough money, even the wealthy. While Connor did have money, his daily expenses were high. Without a stable source of income, even if he had a mountain of gold, he wouldn't be able to fund such extravagance.
And what was Connor's stable source of income? It was through his position in the family company, continuously making profits and earning money in this way. Without that position, Connor would have to rely solely on his parents for money, leading to a decrease in his standard of living.
Moreover, Connor knew that his father, Brandon, had no intention of selling HealthPro Medical Devices Company. It was the foundation of the Kang family, and Brandon wouldn't sell it unless presented with an offer he couldn't refuse.
'Skyview is a billionaire, buying HealthPro Medical Devices Company must have cost a lot. At least a billion. My dad should have a lot of cash on hand now. I've lost my job, if I don't ask for some money, then I would be a fool!' Connor thought.
Connor was accustomed to a luxurious lifestyle, and being suddenly cast from heaven to hell by Skyview, he definitely wouldn't want to live in poverty, although Connor at his most frugal would be considered luxurious to the average working-class individual.
Connor decided to have a serious talk with his father, Brandon.
Brandon had sold the company without saying a word, which made Connor feel deceived. He wanted an explanation from Brandon. Connor actually looked down on his own father, considering Brandon to be a weakling who was afraid of his wife.
However, as Connor approached his Mercedes-Benz, he was taken aback.
A large tow truck was parked in front of his Mercedes-Benz, with several uniformed officials about to tow Connor's car onto the truck.
"What's going on?" Connor exclaimed angrily. "This is my car, why are you touching my car?"
"Are you Connor?" one of the workers flashed an ID. "We're from the court, executing an asset seizure. Please take a look!"
Seeing the stamped documents, Connor felt fear.
In Golden Valley, even the wealthiest individuals couldn't go against the government. Several former billionaires were still locked up in prison. Connor knew he couldn't possibly challenge the government.
"What's happening?" Connor asked. "What is this all about?"
The worker explained, "Your father is Brandon, right?"
Connor replied, "Yes, my father is Brandon, the chairman of HealthPro Medical Devices Company."
The worker continued, "Connor, your car and house are all under your father Brandon's name. However, your father has already mortgaged your car and house to the bank to repay loans. Some of your luxury items will also be seized by us and auctioned off to repay the bank loans."
"This can't be!" Connor exclaimed. "How could my father not repay the loans?"
The worker calmly stated, "Out of goodwill, let me kindly remind you: your father purchased a large amount of EliteVision Films stock, and due to the lead actor Donovan's drug scandal, the latest project of EliteVision Films has been a big failure. The stock of EliteVision Films has plummeted, causing a major financial problem for your father. That's why he has mortgaged all his cars and houses to the bank, to be auctioned off by us!"
"No way!" Connor's mind went blank, and he muttered, "This can't be!"
The worker no longer paid attention to Connor, towed away his Mercedes-Benz, and left. Connor didn't dare stop them.
Connor decided to call his father and have a conversation with Brandon to understand the situation.
Connor had been pampered since childhood. He had been born into wealth and immense riches and lived a life of luxury for many years, never feeling any sense of crisis. But now, Connor felt a sense of impending doom, realizing that everything was about to fall apart and that his own future might not be so bright.
The call was quickly connected.
But the atmosphere was somewhat eerie.
In the past, Brandon always called Connor. He cared about Connor's life, while Connor never called Brandon. Although not indifferent, Connor didn't enjoy spending time with his father and showed little interest in Brandon.
Usually, when Connor and Brandon spoke on the phone, Brandon was very concerned, while Connor was indifferent.
But today, Brandon remained silent for a long time.
Connor initially waited for Brandon to speak, but after a long silence, he couldn't help but ask, "Father, what's going on?"
"Have you offended Skyview?" Brandon asked.
Connor replied, "Which Skyview?"
Brandon said, "The chairman of the Twin Group, the billionaire Skyview."
"Well..." Connor hesitated for a moment, "I did have some minor conflicts with this Skyview, but it was just some petty squabbles!"
Brandon said, "Because of you, Skyview used some dirty tactics on us. I am now on the brink of bankruptcy. Do you understand now? My son, you are truly a loser!"
Connor could almost imagine Brandon's grim expression and quickly said, "Really? Is Skyview that ruthless?"
"Connor, this is the last time I'll call you that. I am formally informing you that your car, house, and luxury items will all be gone. I will cancel your bank cards and credit cards. From now on, we have no relationship. You have to support yourself!" Brandon announced.
Connor was astonished, "Why?"
"Because you are not my biological son!" Brandon declared. "You are someone else's son, that's why!"
