Chapter 60 Sheltering to the End
Skyview finished speaking and looked at Andrew.
Once a person's integrity was lost, it was hard to regain.
Integrity was like virginity, once lost, it was lost forever.
Andrew was originally a man of integrity, even ready to be a martyr, showing his courage.
He did withstand Skyview's torture, but little did he know that Suzanne, this woman, was an expert in torture, causing him to give up in an instant!
With this surrender, Andrew's courage vanished, and his integrity was gone!
Now, with just a glance from Skyview, Andrew would say whatever he was told to say.
"Jack instructed me!" Andrew exclaimed loudly. "Jack contacted me, gave me a million, asked me to steal express deliveries for a week! It's all Jack's doing, I'm a victim too!" he said, tears welling up in his eyes.
Skyview pursed his lips and said, "Mr. Everett, you heard it, it was all Jack's doing! Jack has messed with me three times. If you can't give me a good explanation, then we have to look for justice in our own way."
Skyler looked at Andrew, furrowing his brow. "Mr. Scott, Andrew is covered in bruises. There's a suspicion of a forced confession after torture. He could say anything you want."
Skyview sneered, "Mr. Everett, are you saying that I forced a confession to have Andrew accuse Jack?"
Skyler replied, "I didn't say anything."
Skyview set down his cola, shrugged, and said, "Well, we rely on both witness testimony and physical evidence. Even if Mr. Everett doesn't believe Andrew's testimony, there is solid physical evidence."
Skyview finished speaking and looked at Lily.
Lily took out a voice recorder and a bank statement from her briefcase.
Skyview turned on the voice recorder.
"You're the elite thief Andrew, right?"
"Indeed, you're Jack?"
"Yes."
"Why did you come to me this time?"
"I've heard you're an elite thief, skilled in stealing, never caught since you started."
"All that boasting is from others. My skills aren't that great!"
"You're too modest. I've invited you here just for a small favor."
"What favor?"
"To steal express deliveries!"
"What? Steal deliveries? Jack, are you kidding me? I came all this way, and you want me to steal deliveries?"
"I wouldn't dare joke with you. I'll be honest. The regional manager of Lakeview Express Company, Skyview, is my enemy. He has strong support behind him, so he is not easy to deal with! I found out that Skyview has been leasing land everywhere, causing a big problem with Lakeview Express' financial chain. If you can steal Lakeview Express deliveries for a consecutive week, then Lakeview Express is likely to collapse! Once Lakeview Express collapses, Skyview will lose his strong support, and then I control his fate!"
"Enough. I don't care about the plan and the details. I just want to know how much I'll be paid?"
"200 thousand dollars for seven days, in or out?"
"I'm in! It seems Skyview is truly your archenemy. If you hate him so much, you wouldn't have paid me such a high price. Don't worry, I will make the plan come true. Just one request, pay me first!"
"What if you take the money and run?"
"Jack, you have your background, you are not someone I can easily mess with. I wouldn't risk offending you for a million. Besides, you must have researched me before asking for my help. My rule has always been payment first, then work. Over the years, I've never let down a client or broken my own rule."
"Alright, Andrew, your word is your bond, and I know that. A million isn't much for me. I'll transfer the money to you right away, get moving! I want Lakeview Express to collapse quickly. I want Skyview to suffer!"
The recording stopped at this point.
These two voices, one was Andrew's, the other was Jack's.
Skyler found Andrew's voice somewhat unfamiliar, but comparing it to Andrew's earlier speech, it was unmistakable. As for Jack's voice, Skyler couldn't be more familiar. He knew instantly that the recording was genuine.
Skyler's expression turned grim.
But the story wasn't over yet.
Skyview spread out the bank statement, pointing to the only transaction and saying, "The sender is Jack, the receiver is Andrew. The evidence is solid enough, seeing this, Mr. Everett. Do you have anything to say?"
Skyler's expression changed multiple times, then suddenly burst into laughter. "A truly admirable young man, Mr. Scott, you are indeed a capable person, highly skilled! As for the evidence presented, I truly have nothing to say. I can only admit defeat!"
Skyview said, "In that case, please hand over Jack, Mr. Everett."
Skyler replied, "Unfortunately, I can't hand Jack over to you!"
Skyview narrowed his eyes. "Mr. Everett, are you a man who can't keep his word?"
Skyler shook his head, "It's not that I don't want to hand him over, but I can't."
"Can't hand him over?" Skyview asked. "What do you mean?"
Skyler explained, "It means Jack has already fled. He probably realized he was in trouble and left the country overnight, maybe heading to another country. I don't even know which country he went to." Skyler's nonchalant attitude was quite evident.
Skyview immediately understood that Skyler was determined to shelter Jack to the end.
And that was indeed the case.
Skyler, still holding onto a special bond between him and Jack's mother. So, even if it meant being unworthy, he was determined to protect Jack at all costs!
As long as he refused to hand over Jack, delayed for a few days until Jack's overseas arrangements were settled, and then simply sent Jack out of the country, everything would be resolved.
