Chapter 202 John Davis
It was John, flanked by several managers, his expression being a mask of displeasure.
Skyview turned to face him, his expression unreadable. "John," he said coolly. "Here to defend your lapdog, I see."
"You little..." John wanted to curse him, his face flushing with anger, but he quickly composed himself. He wouldn't lose his temper, not here, not now. He had a reputation to maintain.
"You arrogant little punk!" Yosef wailed, pointing a trembling finger at Skyview. "John, he hit me! He assaulted me!"
John silenced him with a stern look, then turned back to Skyview. "Mr. Scott," he said, his voice deceptively calm. "Perhaps you could enlighten us as to why you felt the need to resort to violence against a valued employee?"
"Let me ask you this, John," Skyview countered, his voice dangerously low. "If someone harassed your wife, what would you do?"
John's eyebrows raised in surprise. He turned to Yosef, his gaze sharp. "Explain it," he commanded. "Tell me exactly what happened. And if I find out you've lied to me..."
Yosef, emboldened by John's presence, launched into his well-rehearsed lie. "Willow stormed into my office, demanding a promotion and a raise," he whined. "She's barely competent, let alone deserving of a promotion! Naturally, I refused."
"But she wouldn't take no for an answer! She... She tried to seduce me! But I am a man of principle! I rejected her, and she attacked me in a fit of rage!"
He clutched his groin again, his acting as unconvincing as ever.
Skyview watched his performance, sneering and finding it amused. The man was a fool if he thought anyone would believe this charade.
"Liar!" Willow shouted, her voice trembling with anger.
John, however, was a shrewd judge of character.
He could tell that Yosef was lying and that he'd brought this upon himself. He knew exactly what kind of man Yosef was, a man who preyed on women who couldn't fight back.
And Willow's boyfriend just happened to be Skyview Scott.
He understood Skyview's actions. If he were a few decades younger, knowing someone had dared to disrespect his woman... Well, Yosef was lucky enough to be still alive.
But John didn't need the truth. He needed an excuse, a justification to protect his man.
Yosef might be a liability, a moral degenerate, but he represented the Davis family's influence within the Twin Group. To abandon him would be to weaken their position, which was unacceptable.
"I see," John said, nodding slowly. He turned to Skyview, a knowing look on his face. "Skyview, I understand. You've been through a lot lately, with Alice's betrayal and all. It's only natural that you'd want to find someone new, someone to comfort you."
"But this Willow... She's clearly troublesome. Trying to seduce her own boss for a promotion? Disgraceful. Yosef, on the other hand, showed remarkable restraint. He's a gentleman."
Willow was so enraged that she thought she might explode.
John had just painted her as a cheap, opportunistic hussy, and there was nothing she could do about it.
Skyview's fury, however, was more restrained. "John," he said, his voice deceptively calm. "Are you looking for a fight?"
John blinked, taken aback by Skyview's sudden shift in demeanor. Before he could respond, Skyview slammed his hand down on the table, the noise echoing through the stunned silence.
"You pathetic old fool," Skyview spat, his voice dripping with contempt. "You tried to sabotage Lakeview Express, and I crushed you. I destroyed Shark Live, and there was nothing you could do about it. You're a relic, John, a dinosaur in a digital age. You're irrelevant."
John's face turned dark with rage.
"How dare you!" he roared. "I built this company with your grandfather when you were still in diapers! You know nothing of hard work, of sacrifice!"
"Oh, I know about sacrifice, John," Skyview said, a cruel smile playing on his face. "I sacrificed your precious Davis family's future when I took over this company. The Shark Live had fallen down."
He leaned forward, his gaze piercing John's facade of anger.
"Let's talk about the Davis family's three pillars of success, shall we? First, your shares in the Twin Group. Don't worry, I'm working on acquiring those as we speak. I'll make sure the Davis family is kicked out of this company, penny by penny. Consider it my personal mission."
"Second, your precious Golden Harvest Market chain. I'm branching out, John. Expect some competition soon. I hear discount prices have caused rage these days."
"And as for your third pillar, Shark Live... Well, that's already a smoldering ruin, thanks to me. The Davis family is finished, John. Accept it."
Skyview's words were like daggers, each one stabbing at the heart of John's pride, his legacy.
"Who do you think you are?" John felt extremely angry. "When I started the business with your grandfather, Dylan, you weren't even born yet!"
As John spoke, his face turned red, showing that he was truly angry.
"I admit you have experience," Skyview smiled slightly, "But you're too old to adjust to the new era. What makes you think you can compete with me?"
Since John had hit Skyview's sore spot, Skyview didn't hold back and attacked John's weakness!
