Chapter 168 No Fairy Tale
Pure love was like a bubble in a fairy tale, bursting at the slightest touch.
Stephanie had spent years in a materialistic society, which should've made her too cynical to believe in love. But in the darkness, people often yearned more for the light. Those without beautiful love usually hoped to have it, even if they didn't believe in it.
Stephanie always thought she could never be moved by any man again. She prided herself on seeing through so-called men, believing that all they wanted was her body, her youth. But who would love her soul, love the wrinkles that time would inevitably draw on her face?
To Stephanie, Leander was just a handsome guy to pass the time with. But at this moment, she was at her most vulnerable.
She needed a strong man to help her the most.
And when Leander said, "I'll take care of you," Stephanie's heart was truly touched.
She felt like a long-thirsty traveler in the desert who had found a spring.
Like a wandering son who had returned home.
Like a frightened person in a storm who had entered a peaceful harbor.
In short, Stephanie felt she had found the true love of her life.
"Will you marry me?"
"Of course, I will."
"Then I'll go back to NeoSeou with you!"
"Let's set off right now!"
Leander looked at Stephanie tenderly, like the prince charming in a legend.
Stephanie quickly packed her things.
She didn't have many important things; the rest were not worth much and could be discarded.
What she wanted to bring were some branded clothes, some cosmetics and bags, some jewelry, her laptop, tablet, smartwatch, and other personal items at the house.
To reduce the burden of the journey, she threw away everything else that wasn't important.
Leander called a taxi.
Not for long, Stephanie sensed something was wrong. Because she noticed the car wasn't heading to the airport but had unknowingly entered under an overpass.
Under the overpass, it was pitch dark, with only faint streetlights.
At this moment, in the darkness, a black car's headlights lit up, illuminating the underpass.
In front of the car stood a middle-aged man, Samuel.
Next to Samuel were a few strong men. Stephanie's heart sank to the bottom; she wasn't stupid and immediately understood what was happening.
"Why?" Stephanie questioned Leander, "Why are you doing this?"
"Don't be nervous; they won't kill you; they just want you to pay back the money," Leander smiled.
Leander opened the car door and got out.
"Samuel, I've brought her here as you asked. We've already informed the landlord, who thinks she's left," Leander said. "She has her passport, ID, and communication tools with her, so you have nothing to worry about."
Samuel smiled and said, "Leander, well done. You'll get your reward, but I hope you keep your mouth shut, or I'll make you regret it. Understand?"
"That's for sure! Rest assured," Leander replied.
Samuel wasn't about to let Nova waste millions, but he knew he couldn't compete with Shark Live. Shark Live, a high-tech industry, was valued by the government, and the Davis family's influence was formidable. Getting money back from the Davis family was impossible.
And the agency behind Stephanie was also not to be trifled with.
Stephanie, a lone woman in a foreign country, was like a puppet he could control. Samuel was determined to recover all the lost money from Stephanie and even make a profit!
Samuel was confident he could get millions from Stephanie. He was determined to exploit big money from this famous and beautiful woman.
That was why Samuel found Leander and asked him to help lure Stephanie out. Leander initially refused, but facing a life threat left him no choice.
After he made his moves, the current scene unfolded.
"Drag that woman out!" Samuel ordered.
Two of Samuel's men pulled Stephanie out of the car.
Stephanie screamed in despair, "Help!"
But it was useless; a strong man punched Stephanie in the stomach, making her almost vomit her dinner, and she screamed in pain.
"Stephanie, I hope you cooperate with me, or I'll make your death very unpleasant!" Samuel said. "Screaming here is useless; this is the suburbs, no one will care!"
"Who are you?" Stephanie looked at Samuel in horror, "Why are you capturing me?"
Samuel smiled sinisterly. "Let me introduce myself. I'm Samuel, Nova's father! Nova, your fan, has wasted tens of millions for you! All of that is my money! My money!! My money!!!" Samuel's face twisted with rage as he spoke.
"Nova spent money on me willingly. That's not my fault!" Stephanie said. "The live streaming industry is a legitimate business. I've met Nova; he's an adult with his own judgment. If we start holding people accountable for impulsive spending by adults, the entertainment industry won't survive!! Besides, shouldn't you be seeking revenge on Shark Live?
"I'm warning you, you are breaking the law!"
