Chapter 122
Back in college, the department once organized a masquerade ball.
Men and women wore elaborate masks, and they relied solely on each other's speech to infer each other's character.
This method had its pros and cons. The advantage was that it added a sense of mystery, provided a psychological thrill, and deepened her impression of me.
As the saying goes, curiosity killed the cat, and women are creatures with even greater curiosity than cats.
The downside was that while once or twice was fine, if it happened too often, the other party would surely become suspicious.
However, this was undoubtedly a feasible method.
I organized a set of scripts in my mind, repeatedly calculating and ensuring there were no issues before finally falling asleep.
The next day, I got up early, dressed in Versace, wore a Longines watch, and meticulously groomed my hair.
Previously, wearing these brands always made me feel guilty, but now that feeling was gone.
Money was a man's courage, and that was no exaggeration.
Heading out with my handbag, I thought, 'Now I just need a ride.'
Although I still had about five million on hand, the dance training class needed promotion, hiring people, and networking—would this money be enough? I had no idea.
Things didn't go as planned, so I'll just have to roll with the punches for now.
But having money meant I could indulge a bit, so I called a taxi directly and arrived at the company's doorstep.
The feeling of being chauffeured without having to squeeze onto public transport was just fantastic! (Crackling sound)
Coincidentally, while in the elevator, I actually ran into Lily.
She was dressed in a white professional suit, with light makeup on her face. She was naturally beautiful, but at this moment, she was exceptionally stunning.
What surprised me even more was that she had a watch on her wrist. Upon closer inspection, wasn't that a Longines ladies' watch?
Looking at mine, it almost felt like a couple's set.
Damn!
Was she getting into character too quickly?
I had never seen her wear a watch or bracelet before. Could it be that she bought them specifically for me?
Though she said no with her words, her actions spoke otherwise.
When she caught me looking at her, she gave me a fierce glare, then turned her head away without looking at me. But from the side, I could see her blushing.
Haha, I felt so good inside.
Thinking that I was about to conquer Lily successfully, I felt ecstatic.
Of course, it was just the initial success of my conquest plan.
Exiting the elevator, I quickly caught up, "Ms. Wilson!"
"This is the company; keep your distance," she said calmly, her voice devoid of warmth.
But I knew she was feigning indifference.
I moved closer. "I'm not up to anything! I just want to thank you. While I was away from the company these past two days, you've been helping with my project."
"This is my job. I'd do the same for anyone else; there's no need for thanks."
"You can't say that!" I smiled. "Ms. Wilson, I'm hosting tonight. Would you honor me with your presence?"
"Flattery will get you nowhere," she said.
"This is called appreciation." I chuckled, "I've already reserved a spot at the Gourmet Glitterati. Would you do me the honor, Ms. Wilson?"
"The Gourmet Glitterati?"
Lily Wilson chuckled, "Getting a commission makes a difference; now you dare to go to high-end places!"
The Gourmet Glitterati was a well-known establishment nearby. It was located on the top floor of the Sevan Pearl Tower. Dining there was a luxury experience, offering a panoramic view of Sevan.
"Will you come?"
"I'm busy."
I wasn't annoyed. I knew that Lily was speaking in reverse, so I replied, "I'll be there after work. If you don't show up, I'll find someone else!"
As soon as the words left my mouth, her expression changed, her eyes flashing with a dangerous light. "Who will you find?"
I smiled. "If you don't come, it doesn't matter who I find, but rest assured, it will be a woman."
With that, I walked briskly into the marketing department, the sound of my footsteps echoing heavily behind me.
This woman was angry!
Back at my desk, Lily's expression was extremely unpleasant.
Paul came over and said, "You're back, finally! I missed you so much. Come here for a hug!"
"Get lost, go hug your Julie."
Julie was a girl from the project department, a graduate of a top university, who had been won over by this guy in less than half a year since she arrived here.
Of course, it was a secret conquest, as dating within the company, especially across departments, was highly discouraged.
He made a hushing gesture and then said, "What's wrong with Ms. Wilson? You both came in one after the other. Did you upset her?"
I protested, "Me? I wouldn't dare!"
"You, John Bold, have the guts. You even dared to challenge the director when you were in a bad mood."
"When did I become John Bold?"
Paul smirked, "It was the day you slammed the door and left. The whole marketing department knows about it. They're all saying how awesome you are!"
"Challenging the director is being awesome? Next time, watch me challenge a vice president!"
In my mind, when I said challenge, I meant a real showdown.
"You're really taking the cake," Paul said.
Just then, Grace walked in wearing a mini skirt and carrying a pink purse. As soon as she saw me, she hurried over with a smile. "Oh, Supervisor John is back at work!"
"Hehe, Deputy, Deputy!"
"I don't care if you're a regular or a deputy; that's how I'll address you from now on!"
I felt quite pleased with Grace's words and discreetly pinched her smooth leg. Instead of pulling back, she actually took a step forward. "I knew you were coming back to work today, so I dressed up for you. How do I look? Does it suit your taste?"
I looked her up and down; she was indeed beautiful and quite appealing. "Not bad, but it's not really my style."
Grace let out a soft "Ah" and asked, "What don't you like?"
"I don't like it when people look at me with those eyes. I'm quite possessive, you see. I can look, but others can't!"
Grace chuckled, "So that's the issue. What's wrong with letting others look? It's not like you'll lose anything. Besides... they can see but not touch, while you not only see but can also touch."
This woman exuded charm in every move and word, especially in her teasing skills—it was unparalleled.
Engaging with her felt like meeting a worthy opponent. Conquering her would surely be thrilling.
Just then, Lily stood up and said, "Grace, it's work hours now. If you want to chat, you can take leave and chat elsewhere."
Grace stuck out her tongue, whispering, "I'm leaving now; catch me on Facebook chat."
I nodded, and as I turned, I caught Lily glaring at me. "John," she warned, "as the deputy manager now, you must set a good example. If you lead any further violations of company policies, I will not hesitate to report you to the director and have your position revoked!"
'She's quite sensitive, perhaps feeling jealous,' I thought to myself.
I scratched my head, replying, "I understand, I understand..."
At that moment, Jenny entered carrying an LV bag, instantly quieting the room where, moments ago, people were playing around. It was as if someone had pressed a pause button, leaving everything in eerie silence.
Jenny glanced around before fixing her gaze on me. "John, come with me," she commanded.
