Chapter 374

I rushed over to the restaurant.

After dark, the place was packed with big guys in suits, clearly gang members.

As I walked in, they all gave me the stink eye, but when I got close to Cassandra, they went back to their drinks.

I asked, "So, where's the person I'm looking for?"

Cassandra said, "Things have changed. We got word that the person you're after has been nabbed by a notorious international organ trafficking ring. We can now pinpoint her general location."

I was freaking out. "Then go get her!"

"That organization is brutal. We could face serious backlash," Cassandra said, not showing any emotion.

I thought, 'Aren't you gangsters supposed to keep your word?'

I slammed my fist on the table. "Tell me, what will it take for you to act?"

The loud bang made the whole restaurant go silent.

A big guy stood up, and then a bunch of others followed.

I was both shocked and scared, realizing I was on their turf.

"Sit down," Cassandra snapped, and the big guys sat back down.

I stared her down. "What will it take for you to act?"

"More money."

"How much?"

"Ten million dollars!"

"I'll give you fifteen million. I want her standing in front of me unharmed, or I'll put a thirty million dollar bounty on your head."

"Deal!" Cassandra nodded, then clapped her hands. All the big guys stood up. She said a few words to them, and they took off.

Cassandra sat down, her eyes locked on me. "This is the first time someone has dared to threaten me on my turf. You've got guts."

I didn't say anything. She continued, "I'll pour you a drink. Let's drink and wait."

"No, thanks." I took a deep breath, not in the mood for a drink.

"Being anxious won't help, right?" She smiled lightly, then sat down nearby, motioning for me to sit.

I frowned but eventually sat across from her.

"Don't worry," As she spoke, Cassandra took off her jacket, revealing tattooed arms. She was wearing a tube top underneath, and it was clear she had a big chest.

"Can you tell me the general location?"

"You want to go there?"

I nodded, thinking I could inform Ruby and the others. They'd definitely call the cops. No gang was stronger than the police.

"No." Cassandra shot me down.

I frowned. "Why not?"

"Protecting our clients' safety is our duty."

I almost laughed in anger, thinking, 'Now she talks about professional ethics, but not when asking for more money. Aren't they just afraid I won't pay the rest if something happens to me?'

"I'll pay more."

"This isn't about money, John. Crystal Nation has its rules, and Crimson Lotus Society has its rules. Do you get it?" She pushed the drink towards me. "Please!"

I was anxious but stuck, thinking, 'Are Blackhawk Syndicate and Skywolf Society useless? It's been so long without any news.'

Just then, I heard hurried footsteps outside and felt a surge of hope. "Are they back?"

But Cassandra's face changed. Just as she stood up, the restaurant's sliding door was kicked open from the outside.

A group of men in black rushed in, all holding steel knives with murderous looks. Cassandra was instantly on high alert.

"Francis, what do you want? This is Crimson Lotus Society's territory!" Cassandra drew a long knife from somewhere I couldn't see.

I broke out in a cold sweat, thinking, 'Could I be any unluckier to stumble into a gang fight right now?'

The guy named Francis looked super cocky. He glanced at me. "Cassandra, is this your new boyfriend?"

"Bastard," Cassandra yelled, "Let him go. If you touch him, I'll kill you."

Francis looked intrigued. "Are you the one offering a bounty to find someone among the three major gangs?"

I was stunned.

Cassandra turned to me. "Go now!"

I was furious, not able to leave. There were dozens of them, all armed.

Francis's eyes gleamed with greed. "When we start, don't hurt that person!"

"Francis, you're breaking the rules." Cassandra pulled me behind her.

"Rules are meant to be broken." Francis sneered. "Cassandra, be with me. I'll become Crimson Lotus Society's son-in-law. Together, we'll rule Moxford."

"Bastard, dream on!" Cassandra glared at him. "Get out!"

"Cassandra, don't be ungrateful," Francis said coldly. "Your father is old. Blackhawk Syndicate and Skywolf Society are eyeing you. Marry me, and I'll be your ally, your husband. Only a woman like you is worthy of me!"

Cassandra said nothing more. Francis waved his hand, and his men slowly advanced.

I was sweating bullets. This was my first time in such a situation. Fighting was out of the question, but I could run.

Cassandra had no intention of running.

I didn't speak Crystal Nation's language. I tugged at her, but she didn't move. Instead, she pushed me away and whispered something too softly for the translation software to catch.

I was frantic, thinking, 'What the hell did she say?'

Just then, the first guy charged at us with a knife, the cold steel glinting menacingly. But Cassandra stayed calm, meeting him with her long knife.

With a clang, her long knife sliced through his steel knife and continued to cut into his shoulder blade. The guy screamed, taken down in one move.

Then three more guys charged, their blades flashing. I couldn't believe I was seeing something straight out of a movie in real life. It was thrilling but mostly terrifying.

My adrenaline surged. I spotted a long knife under the table. I grabbed it. It was heavy.

Holding it, my fear lessened. At least I had some means of self-defense. I needed this weapon.

Cassandra was struggling, sparks flying as blades clashed. She kept shouting, and in the confined space, she seemed like a one-woman army.

Francis squinted, drawing a long knife from one of his men and slashing down with great force.

He slashed three or four times, forcing Cassandra back three steps.

"Stand down," Francis ordered.

Cassandra was panting, blood dripping from her hand.

"I heard your family is skilled with long knives. Let me test that!" With a murderous glint in his eye, Francis charged. Cassandra met him head-on.

Their blades clashed, evenly matched.

The terrifying sound of their blades made my heart race. I wondered if I should help. After all, this was a Crystal Nation gang matter. If I got involved, it may complicate things further.
