Chapter 344
Linda shot me a look, "You think you can handle this? And why on earth would I keep it? You're out of your mind, aren't you?"
I knew I couldn't take full responsibility, and I never thought my recklessness would lead to this mess.
"Look, I might not be able to take full responsibility, but I can help. Not just two kids, I could take care of ten!"
I took a deep breath, "Have the baby. The kid's innocent. You don't have to keep it; just give it to me!"
"Why should I have a baby for you?" Linda said flatly. "No way. I'm getting an abortion tomorrow."
I felt like crap, totally powerless.
"Stella, what about you?" I asked.
Honestly, I didn't have much of a thing for Stella, even though she was drop-dead gorgeous.
"I don't know."
"Let's head back to the office," Linda said curtly.
"Ms. Foster!"
"Back to the office." She repeated.
When we got to Skyliho Group, my head was spinning. Amelia walked over and plopped down on my lap, "You look awful, what's up?"
"Nothing."
"Have you been overdoing it lately?"
I shook my head, feeling super guilty as I looked at Amelia's worried face.
"Maybe."
I leaned back in the chair, and Amelia started massaging my temples, "I've got some good news for you."
My heart skipped a beat, and I tried to stay calm, "What good news?"
"My period's late."
What?
I felt like I was drowning in "good news" today, and one more piece would push me over the edge.
I'd been with Amelia for a while, and we were pretty active.
Sometimes once a day, sometimes three times a day.
So yeah, the odds of her getting pregnant were pretty high.
But if Amelia was pregnant, I wouldn't be too freaked out. The problem was, Linda and Stella were also pregnant.
I felt like I was losing it.
"I bought a pregnancy test. I'll go check and let you know."
She kissed me and left the office.
I prayed, 'Please don't be pregnant. Even if you are, let it be after I sort this mess out.'
Anxiously, the office door opened again.
Amelia walked in looking bummed, and I felt a wave of relief. I asked calmly, "Not pregnant, right?"
She sighed, and my heart settled. Thank God she wasn't pregnant.
But before I could fully relax, Amelia handed me the pregnancy test.
I thought, 'It's over, she's really pregnant.'
Amelia said excitedly, "I was kidding, John, you're gonna be a dad!"
She sat on my lap, hugging my neck and shaking with joy, "How do you feel? Excited? Happy? I told you those methods would work."
She was buzzing, "Do you think it's a boy or a girl? What should we name it? Should we go to the hospital for a detailed check-up? Let's set up a nursery. I want to buy lots of toys and give the baby the best."
She touched her belly, "I've finally fulfilled my wish before turning thirty, having a baby with someone I love."
I reached out to touch her belly, feeling a deep connection.
This must be my kid.
"Let's go to the hospital for a check-up."
I leaned back in the chair, forcing a smile. No matter what, I was gonna have the baby in Amelia's belly.
At the hospital, Amelia had a detailed check-up, and the due date was March 15th next year!
Linda and Stella were due at the end of March.
Seeing Amelia's happy face, I sighed, "You should quit your job and rest at home."
"No need, I'm barely a month in. I can work until I'm seven months along before taking leave!" Amelia rubbed her belly, "Besides, I can't just sit at home."
I didn't push it after that.
"Alright, but take it easy, and no more high heels starting tomorrow."
Back at the office, I made sure to support her carefully.
"You're overreacting. It's not even showing yet."
Amelia was already acting like a mom, and I was totally smitten.
"Oh, by the way, Ms. Wilson wants to see you."
Amelia said, glancing at her phone.
"Alright, sit tight. I'll be right back."
With a nervous heart, I headed to Katherine's office.
She looked at me, "What's up? You seem off."
"Just tired, been a rough few days."
I took a deep breath, trying to keep my worries in check, "Why'd you call me over?"
Katherine said, "Steven's in trouble in Greenvale City."
I asked, "Who?"
"Steven."
Her voice had a hint of excitement, "I'm heading to Greenvale City now. Linda's coming too, and as the board's assistant, you have to come along."
Steven in trouble?
I shivered, "What happened?"
"A car accident, pretty bad. Two bodyguards died on the spot."
I gasped, "What about him?"
"He's okay, but he's not in great shape."
Katherine said, "I've already got your ticket. We're leaving soon."
Everything was happening so fast, I wasn't ready. I thought, 'How could Steven be in Greenvale City for so long, and the first news is bad?'
I went back to the office and told Amelia. She wanted to come too, but I stopped her, "Stay in Sevan City and don't make me worry. Mr. Walton's accident is serious."
Just as I finished, Ms. Charlotte knocked on the door, "John, Ms. Foster is looking for you."
I quickly stood up, gave Amelia a look, and walked into Linda's office.
"Ms. Foster, you needed me?"
"Drive me to the airport right now!"
"Aren't we waiting for Ms. Wilson?"
She glared at me, "No, you're coming with me to Greenvale City."
I touched my nose, "Ms. Wilson asked me to go with her."
"Who do you listen to, me or her?"
Seeing her angry face, I quickly said, "You, of course."
I thought, 'Can't afford to piss her off, she's pregnant now.'
"Let me inform Ms. Wilson."
"No!" Linda suddenly said.
I looked at her, confused. She stood up, "Let's go."
Helpless, I followed her, sending a quick message to Katherine in the elevator.
At Sevan City airport, we got our tickets and boarded the plane.
Katherine had bought me a first-class ticket, and so did Linda, but she was in front of me, and I was behind her.
At that moment, Katherine came up, waving her ticket, "I'm sitting in the same row as you."
I made way, and Linda walked over, expressionless, "Get up and sit in my seat."
"Ms. Foster"
"Hurry up." She said indifferently.
I glanced at Katherine, and she said, "If Ms. Foster wants you to sit in front, then do it. I can chat with Ms. Foster."
Reluctantly, I moved to Linda's seat, praying they wouldn't fight.
I didn't want Katherine to suffer, nor did I want Linda to get angry. Anger was bad for health, especially since she's pregnant.
Luckily, the scene I imagined didn't happen, and everyone got along peacefully.
Two hours later, the plane landed.
A Bentley arrived, driven by an employee from the Greenvale City branch.
Linda asked, "How's Mr. Walton doing now?"
"He's in the hospital, stable condition."
