Chapter 361
I was thinking, 'As long as Linda's safe and nobody gives her any more crap, that's all that matters. Marlow's a smart guy; I can always use his help when the time is right. He might be a bit jumpy, but he's from Greenvale City, knows the lay of the land. Having him around could be a real asset.'
"The company's lost over sixty percent of its staff. We can't run things normally, and everyone's gotta pitch in. People are freaking out."
I sighed, "Hang in there a bit longer. If it really goes south, Marlow, I'll hook you up with a good job, nothing less than what you got now."
Marlow's eyes lit up, "For real?"
"If you believe it, it's true. If not, it's just talk," I said with a grin.
"I believe it, totally." Marlow's look towards me changed.
That afternoon, Katherine showed up, dragging a suitcase and rocking sunglasses, swaying her hips as she walked over.
"Ms. Wilson, over here!"
I rushed over to help with her suitcase.
"How's the company doing now?"
"Not great," I admitted.
She frowned, "Let's hit the company first."
"No, let's head back to the hotel. The company's still locked down, and the staff's waiting for updates at home."
At the hotel, she asked, "Where are you staying?"
I rubbed my nose, "Mr. Harrison found a fancy apartment for Ms. Foster and me. We're crashing there."
"Cancel the lease, I'll stay there too."
I was stunned, "But it's a one-bedroom. How are we all gonna fit?"
"Then rent another one there. Hotels are too pricey."
Without another word, she grabbed her suitcase and walked out.
I felt a headache coming on. If those two lived together, they'd definitely end up fighting.
"Ms. Wilson, why don't you stay here for now, and I'll find a spot for you."
When we got to the apartment, she tossed her suitcase aside, "I'm gonna shower. You go to the property management and rent a place, preferably next to yours."
That bossy tone, classic Katherine.
I thought, 'Given the situation, I could only roll with her plan. The neighborhood's big enough; I could rent a place a bit farther away to keep some space.'
After a quick tour of the property management office, I found a decent spot in the north section, about a hundred or two hundred meters from our apartment.
I paid a quarter's rent and property fees right away.
I got back to the apartment and sighed, "I asked the property management, and only the north section has open units. And it's not too far."
Katherine, fresh out of the shower and wearing my bathrobe, was blow-drying her hair, "Then you move there, and I'll stay here!"
What?
"Ms. Wilson, isn't that a bit much?"
Katherine gave me a side-eye, "You happy living with her?"
I awkwardly smiled, "No, of course not."
In my head, I added, 'Well, maybe a little happy and comfy. If Linda weren't so bossy, it would be pretty sweet.'
"Then it's settled. I've worked with her long enough; I know her well."
I hoped she was right, praying they wouldn't tear each other's hair out. If Linda got angry, it would be a nightmare. But Katherine wasn't someone to be trifled with either. Both were important to me, and choosing between them was an impossible task.
I gave a helpless smile. After Katherine finished blow-drying her hair, she plopped on the sofa, "Why are you just standing there? Usually, you're all over me when you see me. What's up today?"
I sighed, walked over, and hugged her, "I'm just worried she'll smell your scent on me."
If Linda caught Katherine's scent on me, I'd be in deep trouble.
She didn't say anything, just pressed her warm lips to mine, her hands running through my hair, her quick breaths on my face. I could feel her eagerness.
I started to respond. After a while, we stopped kissing, and she said, "I have good news. Wanna hear it?"
"Yes!" My eyes lit up, "Is it about Steven?"
"Yep!"
She whispered something in my ear, and I almost jumped up in excitement, "Are you serious?"
"Yep."
She nodded with a grin, "That car crash didn't just mess up his arms and legs; it also did a number on his, uh, man parts. They only found out when he got back to Sevan City."
"So, he can't, you know, get it on anymore?"
"Depends on how he heals, but for the next year or two, he's definitely out of commission."
I spun her around in my arms. I'd always been worried Steven might try to get back with Katherine. Now, with this accident leaving him disabled, he wouldn't be able to do anything in the bedroom.
"Put me down."
She adjusted her slipping towel, and her sexy body made my mouth go dry. I couldn't help but lean in.
"Put me down first," she murmured.
"Ever since I moved to the executive office, I haven't touched you in a long time. Don't you miss me?" I mumbled.
"Why would I miss you? What's there to miss about you?" she said, contradicting herself.
"Then why did you come to Greenvale City? Were you worried something might happen to me?"
She just murmured without saying anything, and I got the hint.
I gently placed her on the sofa, feeling a sense of accomplishment as I looked at the marks on her body.
"Let me get up and take me over there."
She sat up and took a professional outfit out of her suitcase, dressing right in front of me.
Her captivating body was irresistible.
I took the opportunity to quickly shower and change clothes to avoid Linda smelling any perfume on me.
After getting dressed, Katherine gave me a look and used concealer to cover the kiss marks on her neck.
I knocked on the door, "Ms. Foster, it's me!"
Soon, the door opened, and Linda, wearing a purple silk nightgown, opened the door. Her hair was loose, and her outfit clearly showed her body.
I was stunned. I thought, 'Didn't I send a message saying Katherine was coming?'
'Why is she still dressed like this?'
I was extremely embarrassed, stuck in the middle, not knowing whether to go in or close the door.
Linda crossed her arms and ignored me, "Ms. Wilson, come in and sit."
Katherine's eyes flashed with a strange look, and she gave me a meaningful glance, making me nervous.
"Um, Ms. Foster, I'll stay out here.."
I thought, 'It's important to keep some distance when necessary.'
"Both of you, come in."
Linda said calmly, "Help me take care of Ms. Wilson while I change."
She turned and walked into the bedroom, swaying her hips.
"Ms. Wilson?"
I gave her an awkward look.
She didn't say anything, just walked in, and I followed, only to see my shirt on the sofa!
I thought, 'I have clearly put it away. How did it end up on the sofa again?'
At that moment, I realized something.
'Linda must have taken it out on purpose!'
'But why?'
I quickly walked over and picked up the shirt, "Sit down, I'll get you some water!"
Katherine nodded, looking calm, and I sighed in relief.
But then Katherine suddenly said, "Why is there a pair of men's slippers here?"
I felt a chill down my spine. Looking down, I saw my slippers right there!
"Maybe the previous tenant left them."
I was very nervous but tried to appear calm, walking over to throw the slippers in the trash.
I poured her a glass of water, and Katherine stood up, walking around the room. My heart was pounding, afraid she might find something else.
A few minutes later, Linda came out, dressed in professional attire with her hair neatly up.
Compared to before, she had lost a lot of weight, and being pregnant added a delicate beauty to her.
She no longer seemed as overbearing, appearing more gentle overnight.
"Ms. Wilson, are you here in Greenvale City for business?"
Linda asked calmly, "Or are you worried about my work here?"
The atmosphere grew tense again.
Katherine smiled faintly, "Ms. Foster, don't misunderstand. Mr. Walton is concerned about the situation here, so he sent me to check. If everything is fine, I'll go back in a few days."
"Then you can leave tomorrow. Everything is fine here. Mr. Cena is very capable and has found some leads. In a few days, the company will be back to normal operations."
