Chapter 153

"John, how dare you!"

Nicole was furious. "You're insulting your leader. I'm firing you right now."

"Call Zack, and bring the surveillance footage from that day. Dare you?"
I smiled instead of getting angry. "Even if you want to fire me, you need solid evidence, and reporting requires real evidence. Otherwise, you're just settling personal scores. What qualifications do you have to be a deputy director?"

Would I be afraid of her firing me now? Of course not!

To be honest, I was not afraid at all. There weren't many reasons for me to stay at Skyliho now, just Lily, Jenny, and Skyliho's resources.

But if I really made up my mind, I could give up them directly.

Nicole's face turned red, and I continued, "Go get someone to retrieve the surveillance footage. Otherwise, if you want to make a fuss about this, then do it completely. If Mrs. Smith can't solve this, I'll go to Ms. Bailey. If Ms. Bailey can't do me justice, I'll go to Mr. Foster. If Mr. Foster still can't be fair, then I'll take it to the president's office and see who can handle it!"

"John, calm down. This is an internal issue within the marketing department!" Jenny showed a sullen face.

The sentence I just said was meant to provoke her.

Also, there was no surveillance in the restroom, so their attempt to slander me was baseless.

Nicole seemed to realize this issue as well and then changed the subject. "So, how do you explain this photo?"

"I told you it was just a joke between colleagues. If you really want to investigate, you need to deal with Philip. After all, the photo was leaked from him. I have records on my phone. You can check them yourself.

"Oh, right."

I turned to Philip. "You maliciously took photos, defamed and attacked me, causing significant damage to my personal reputation. I will file a lawsuit, so I hope you'd find a good lawyer!"

I looked at him coldly. He was such a scumbag. If I didn't ruin him directly, he would keep causing trouble to me. It was very disgusting.

Philip panicked. "John, stop slandering me!"

"Just wait for the court summons."

For such a sneaky person, tough talk was meaningless.

The chat records on the phone were solid evidence, so he couldn't get away.

"John, are you threatening your colleague in front of me?" Nicole was beyond angry.

"Threatening a colleague? Ms. Cooper, you got it wrong. I'm using legal means to defend my dignity and interests, and, at the same time, helping the company correct its wrong practices. You should be thanking me."

As the words fell, Paul muttered softly, "Impressive."

Grace covered her mouth and chuckled.

"Do I have to thank you too?"

Nicole was seething. Jenny was standing right beside her, yet she didn't say a word in Nicole's defense, which meant everything.

Lily breathed a sigh of relief and gave me a subtle glance.

At this point, Jenny spoke up, "Alright. Everyone, quiet."

"Ms. Cooper, this matter is undoubtedly a misunderstanding, orchestrated by some malicious individuals aiming to sow discord and tarnish the company's reputation. While your enforcement of rules is commendable, it is crucial to thoroughly investigate the truth next time to avoid fostering discord among colleagues."

Jenny, exuding her authority as the Executive Director, effortlessly silenced Nicole with a mere few words.

"But how can he openly defy me like that?"

Jenny cast a sidelong glance at her and turned to me, saying, "John, I must reprimand you. Even if you are not at fault, you should not defy authority. Therefore, I propose a deduction of three days' basic pay as a lesson. Will you to accept this?"

"Yes!"

I hastily replied, thinking to myself, 'Who cares? I have already received twenty thousand dollars.'

"Very well. Apologize to Ms. Cooper and make a profound self-reflection!"

It wouldn't kill me if I apologized to Nicole.

Besides, it was evident that Jenny was on my side, so I must do as she said.

Rushing forward, I apologized, "Ms. Cooper, I was too brash in my words. I deeply regret my impulsive behavior and hope you can forgive me. I pledge to be more vigilant in the future and strive for better performance."

"Good!" Paul exclaimed, clapping vigorously, joined by Grace and Lily, their applause filling the room.

This was no reflection, but rather a scene of praise.

Nicole's face turned dark with anger.

"Alright. Everyone, silence!

"Ms. Cooper, this is a misunderstanding. It's good to report misconduct, but without solid evidence, remember not to jump to conclusions. I don't want my marketing department to be in chaos. Everyone, dismissed!"

First, Jenny expressed her warning and then asserted her authority as the head of the marketing department. Whoever dared to act out of line, then she wouldn't show mercy.

No one was a fool. Everyone knew whom that statement was directed at.

Nicole's first day in office not only didn't start well but also made herself a laughingstock.

She was hurting herself by her own doing. No one would take her seriously in the future.

I sneered. She really shouldn't have messed with me. If it were someone else, she would have established her authority today.

With a ten-million-dollar project in hand, I thought even a fool wouldn't dare to trouble me. But Nicole, still reeling from the last incident, insisted on targeting me.

Jenny walked to the door. "John, come in."

I quickly walked over and entered the office. Jenny said, "You did well today, but you need to be more tactful in your actions. While it may feel good to vent today, it could become a stain for others to attack you in the future. Got it?"

I nodded as that was indeed true. The workplace was like a battlefield.

But what really surprised me was Jenny saying this to me, which was totally unexpected.

"Are you really going to sue Philip?"

"Yes."

"You better not."

She looked at me and said, "There's no need to escalate a joke. While it might serve as a warning to others, it could also ruin your path to promotion. Even if you bring in one billion or ten billion in deals in the future, you won't move up. Do you understand?"

"So should I just let him bully me?"

I furrowed my brows.

"Then go ahead and sue, and pack up your things. I'll inform HR to settle your salary early."

Jenny's face turned cold.

I got angry, too. "I will definitely sue. If you want to fire me, do it. By the way, I've already connected with Charles Williams.

"Mrs. Smith, if nothing else, I'll leave now. I have a meeting scheduled with the head of the Walker Company's project today."

After that, I left quickly. Just as I reached the office door, Jenny called out, "Stop!"

"Is there anything else?"

Jenny's face turned cold as she slammed the table. "John, How dare you threaten me now?"
