Chapter 395
Today, she was looking drop-dead gorgeous, with her sunglasses hanging from her neckline, pulling it down just enough to show off her smooth, tender chest.
She even tugged her top down a bit more, making sure I got a good look.
She leaned in closer, and I had to fight to push her away.
I reminded, "Connie, cut it out. I have a girlfriend."
She pouted, "You're no fun!"
From the side, she looked a lot like Lauren, but getting involved with her would be a disaster. Lauren's enough; adding Connie would be way too much to handle.
I asked, "So, what do you want from me?"
Connie said, "Come over to my place. My parents said I could drag you there if I had to."
"Like this?" I was dressed super casually since I rushed out.
"Doesn't matter!" She grinned, floored the gas, and the luxury car roared as we sped off.
Soon, we pulled up to Luxe Avenue Mall, one of the top luxury shopping spots in Greenvale City, packed with all the big-name brands.
She dragged me into a clothing store. "Wrap up all these outfits for me. And these shoes, every color in this style, wrap them up too. Belts, wallets, ties."
She bought everything she liked.
The store clerks were stunned, and the way they looked at me made me feel like a kept man. "That'll be $2.68 million."
"Charge it!" After swiping the card, she dressed me up from head to toe in her style.
Then she took me to a watch store and picked out three watches for me, dropping another $3 million!
"Connie, that's enough, seriously!" I was floored. "I'll pay you back later."
Gifts worth millions were way too much.
"John, do you think I'm cheap?"
"No, I don't!"
"Paying me back means you think I'm cheap."
Seeing her about to cry, I sighed, "Okay, my bad, I'll accept them."
"That's more like it." She finally smiled again and then touched her chin. "Still missing something!"
"What's missing?"
"Just follow me." She took me to a super fancy private hair salon and got a stylist to give me a killer haircut. Just a few snips, and it cost $188,000!
I winced; $188,000 could cover my haircuts for life.
I thought, 'You can't blow money like this.'
"Not bad!" Connie nodded in satisfaction. "You were already handsome, but now with a tan, you look even more manly!"
I thought, 'Spending millions, how could I not look good?'
She hooked her arm around mine, "Now you can come home with me, right?"
I nodded helplessly. "Let's go!"
After accepting gifts worth millions, I had to at least go to her place for a meal.
The Wilson Family used to be big in business up North. Later, they got into real estate with a few others, and now they're worth $80 billion. The whole group's market value is over $150 billion.
When we got to the Wilson Family's home, Richard and his fiancée Angelica rushed to greet us.
"John, you're finally here." Richard grabbed my hand like I was a long-lost brother.
"John, hello!" Angelica looked at me with admiration.
"Sorry, I got held up overseas for a bit," I said.
Richard said, "I get it. You're really something; I admire you a lot."
I couldn't help but laugh.
Richard added, "Come on, let me introduce you to my parents."
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson."
Atticus Wilson waved his hand. "No need to be so polite!"
He pulled me to the main seat. "You've really helped our family a lot. I don't even know how to thank you."
"No need. I was just doing what I should." I had said this so many times. I was numb to it.
I thought, 'Being a hero isn't always fun.'
"Come on, today I want to have a few good drinks with you." Atticus was beaming, "You don't know how many people have called me these days, all wanting to thank you in person."
I quickly waved my hand. "No need, please help me decline."
Connie laughed. "You're such a weirdo. People want to thank you, and you find it annoying."
Richard chimed in, "Those people are very influential in Greenvale City. Meeting them would be very beneficial for you."
Angelica added, "John's not the type to care about that, right?"
"True, a hero can't be like ordinary people." Richard laughed.
Ophelia Garcia, who had been quiet, suddenly asked, "John, you don't have a girlfriend yet, do you?"
"I already have a girlfriend," I said, bracing myself.
"That's a pity. I was thinking of introducing my niece to you. It seems she won't have that luck." Ophelia said regretfully.
I swallowed hard. I thought, 'Are people in Greenvale City always this enthusiastic? Even my love life is their concern.'
"Mom, you don't know, John is very popular among us now. If he wanted, just a word from him, and people would go crazy for him." Connie said.
The Wilson Family's dinner was very harmonious. Compared to the Harrison Family's hypocrisy, the Wilson Family was more sincere.
After dinner, Richard took me to visit some influential families.
We visited seven or eight families in one afternoon, and my legs were about to give out.
But I knew it was all beneficial. My company in Greenvale City was about to open, and they all wanted to help.
As for the girls, Connie was helping me. She even mysteriously said they had a big surprise for me.
At 6 PM, Connie dropped me off at my apartment complex. As soon as I got out of the car, I got a call from Abigail. "John, are you free tonight? I want to treat you to dinner."
Her voice was so sweet. Even without seeing her, I could imagine her blushing face.
"I'm not free tonight. Maybe next time, when I have time."
Since I wanted to show my worst side, there was no need to be too nice.
I even thought it would be best not to see her in the coming days.
I didn't even tell her about my company's opening.
I thought, 'She would be sad when she found out, right?'
I silently apologized to her and hung up the phone. 'If there's no future, it's better not to start.'
I didn't go to Linda's place but waited for the staff from the two stores to deliver the items I bought today.
After signing for everything, I went to their place.
As soon as I walked in, before they could speak, I said, "I've sorted out the housing issue. I rented a place at Luxe Haven Enclave in the city center for a year. The environment is excellent."
Stella snorted, "Renting is nothing. If you have the guts, buy it."
"We'll talk about that later. If we decide to settle here, we can buy it then."
Stella shouted, "You can't afford it; you just like to brag!"
Linda glanced at me indifferently. "I'm hungry. Go make dinner."
I nodded. "Okay."
After making dinner, Linda and Stella walked over with serious expressions. "Do you prefer boy or girl?"
