Chapter 322
Ella was super important. If I could get her on board, Rita wouldn't have to bust her butt outside.
In the big classroom, Ella's class was packed, as usual. She was still drop-dead gorgeous.
As she scribbled on the blackboard, her curvy figure was just mesmerizing from behind.
She was stunning. She could totally coast on her looks, but she leaned on her brains. Seriously, life ain't fair.
During class, she spotted me and gave a secret nod. I grinned; maybe Ella wasn't as icy as she seemed.
After class, I went to find her. I didn't bring up the cosmetics thing, just asked for some advice and invited her to dinner.
She turned me down. I thought, maybe I was too obvious.
After leaving Sevan City University, I spent the next day at the company, just chilling with Amelia in the office.
I decided to keep things strictly professional. I needed to recharge.
By Wednesday afternoon, I was back at Sevan City University for another class.
I thought, this time I gotta win her over.
But that afternoon, halfway through class, there was a ruckus outside, and a bunch of people barged in, both guys and gals!
Leading the pack was a middle-aged woman, dragging a girl who looked about seventeen or eighteen, her face almost wrecked.
"Ella, you heartless witch! Look at what your product did to my daughter!" The woman yelled, shocking everyone. They were all whispering, clueless about what was going on.
Ella was surrounded and too scared to speak.
I got it. This girl must've used one of Ella's products and got her face messed up.
I took a look, and yeah, it was pretty bad.
But hey, wasn't this my chance?
I quickly stood up and pushed through the crowd, shielding Ella behind me. "What do you want?"
The woman snapped, "Who the hell are you? Get out of the way!"
"Get lost, or I'll mess you up!" A middle-aged dude next to her charged at me.
I glared and said, "Let me remind you that barging into a classroom is illegal. This is a university, and these are students. If I call the cops, you'll be in big trouble."
The guy hesitated, not daring to come closer, and the others looked a bit scared too.
But the woman fumed, "Call the cops? Have them arrest us all? She did something so heartless. Don't we have the right to seek justice?"
Others chimed in, "Yeah, call the cops and arrest us!"
"My poor niece, only eighteen, disfigured. How's she gonna live now? You've ruined her life!"
Their words cut into Ella like knives, her face going pale.
"Everyone, listen to me first!" Ella said, her voice heavy. "It's my fault. I didn't control the product quality. I'm to blame!"
I got anxious. She couldn't give up now.
Sure enough, hearing Ella's words, these people got even bolder.
"Did you hear that? Get out of here, kid!"
I squinted, "What if I don't? You gonna use force?"
"She admitted her mistake, didn't you hear?"
Ignoring them, I looked at Ella and said, "Ms. Martinez, there's more to this. Let me handle it!"
Ella looked pained, "John, this isn't your problem, it's mine."
"Trust me!" I said seriously. She stared at me for a moment, biting her lip. "Okay!"
"I'll take full responsibility for Ms. Martinez's situation."
I turned to the woman and asked, "What product did your daughter use?"
"What else? It was the VelvetSkin Night Cream!"
I held out my hand, "Where is it?"
The woman looked taken aback, "What do you mean?"
"You said she used VelvetSkin Night Cream. Show me the product! If it was really our product that caused this, we won't dodge responsibility!"
The woman looked flustered, "The cream... it's at home. It's crucial evidence. How can I just hand it over? What if you destroy it?"
"Yeah, what if you refuse to admit it?"
I smirked, pointing at the girl's face, "Her face is in such a state. Everyone feels for her. But I gotta ask, why did you only come now, after her face got this bad? Even if she had an allergic reaction, it should've shown up in minutes. Who would keep using VelvetSkin Night Cream if they had a reaction?"
"That's right!"
"Yeah, that makes sense!"
The students in the classroom started chiming in.
Hearing this, the woman yelled, "What are you implying? You think I'm trying to scam you? Are you nuts? What parent would risk their kid's health?"
Her crew behind her got all riled up, shouting and looking like they were ready to throw down.
The more they acted up, the more confident I felt. "Whether it's a scam or not, something's fishy! The product recall happened ages ago, and it's been pulled from all shelves. So there's no way you could still buy VelvetSkin Night Cream! Even if you claim it was bought before the recall, it's been too long. If she was gonna react, it would've happened already, not now."
Raising my voice, I demanded, "Tell me, what do you want? Are you really taking us for fools? With your kid in this state, instead of going to the hospital, you come here to cause trouble. Who's the real villain here?"
The middle-aged woman went quiet, then started making a scene. She sat on the ground, kicking her legs, "Oh my, there's no justice! This heartless person, a university teacher, did such a despicable thing. Everyone, come and see!"
Her wailing attracted a crowd of onlookers.
Seeing more people gather and the chatter getting louder, it was definitely a blow to Ella.
Ella looked devastated, on the verge of tears.
Her eyes were glued to the girl's face, full of guilt.
I sighed inwardly. Ella was truly a kind-hearted woman.
Whether she joined my company or not, I decided to help her!
I said coldly, "What, you think throwing a tantrum will work? Seems like you're feeling guilty. Your daughter didn't actually use VelvetSkin Night Cream, did she?"
"Of course she used the VelvetSkin Night Cream! What else could it be?" the woman shrieked.
"You jerk, stop talking nonsense. We may not be rich, but we wouldn't extort you by hurting our child. My daughter was so beautiful, and now she's almost disfigured. How will she get married in the future? Is her life ruined because of you?"
The middle-aged man behind her shouted hysterically.
"Loud voices and seeking sympathy won't work. You need evidence. There are tons of skincare products out there, and none claim to be perfect. Do you even know what skincare product your daughter used?"
