Chapter 240

"I don't drink," I said, my voice cold. "If there's nothing else, I'm outta here."

She snapped back, "If you walk out that door, forget about being my driver or touching me again."

I frowned. "You're being ridiculous. You're not all that."

She didn't even look at me. "If you're leaving, what I said shouldn't matter to you."

Sometimes, I really can't figure out what she's thinking.

"This does concern me. I'm worried about your safety, that's why I rushed over here," I snorted. "Ever heard of 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf'?"

"No, why don't you come over and tell me?" she said, patting the sofa.

I decided not to leave just yet. Going back meant being alone anyway. I wanted to see what she was up to.

I walked over and sat next to her. A pleasant fragrance wafted from her. She poured me a glass of red wine, but I didn't drink it. I've been on medication these past few days, and drinking would mess me up.

Seeing me refuse, she didn't get mad. "Where have you been these past few days?"

"On a business trip, you should know that."

"Then why did I hear someone got beat up and ended up in the hospital over a girl?"

"Who was that?"

I played dumb, but inside, I was freaking out. How did she know?

"Still playing dumb?" She gave me a contemptuous look. "You really think people don't know what you've been up to?"

"What did I do?" I clung to a sliver of hope.

"You should've died in that hospital." She kicked me. "Jenny's situation is not something you can handle. Be careful."

I finally let go of my hope. She really did know. I grabbed her foot as she tried to pull away, but I held on tight. Seeing she couldn't break free, she let me.

"Did you know Ms. Foster was also at the opera house?"

"I know."

Katherine nodded indifferently.

"When I was leaving, I ran into her. Her headband fell on the sink, and I was returning it to her when I accidentally got involved in this," I said.

"Then why did you ruin Joseph's plans? Do you know he's looking for you now?" Katherine said. "He's the boss of Stellar Innovations Inc. Do you really think he's easy to deal with?"

I took a deep breath. "He's looking for me? What should I do?"

"You're lucky. There were no cameras in the second-floor room, and Jenny is tight-lipped. Plus, I helped you from behind. Otherwise, you'd be waiting to get fired."

Katherine spoke lightly, but I could feel what they had endured.

I knew all too well what kind of person Joseph was. He was a beast in human skin. No wonder Jenny hasn't been talking to me these past few days; she must have been harassed by that scumbag.

I was extremely nervous.

"Thank you." I felt helpless. Against Joseph, I was indeed too weak.

Katherine reminded me, "Remember, don't get involved in Jenny's matters."

I asked, "If that's the case, why does Skyliho Group Nexus still dare to keep Jenny?"

"Don't ask questions you shouldn't. Knowing too much won't do you any good!" Katherine said.

I felt a bit defiant. There were indeed things I didn't know about. "You can protect me for a while, but not forever. I know better than you what kind of person Joseph is."

She gave me a meaningful look. "You knew about Jenny and Joseph's situation long ago?"

I knew I was busted and said, "I didn't know before, but I've been digging around these past few days. That Joseph is just a scumbag."

I added, "He's not the type to swallow his pride. He'll find me sooner or later. I can't keep hiding."

"That's a problem," Katherine said, "but don't be too nervous. This is a bad incident. Joseph won't openly cause trouble for you. Think about it, if people knew he forced his ex-wife at the opera house and got beaten up, they'd laugh at him."

Katherine continued, "That would make him a laughingstock. After the board of Stellar Innovations Inc. retires, Joseph manages the company. If the employees know about their boss's disgraceful actions, how would they see him?"

I replied, "They'd definitely mock and ridicule him!"

"Exactly, that's why he hasn't come directly after you," Katherine said. "But remember, you absolutely cannot get involved in Jenny's matters again. When the time comes, I won't be able to protect you."

I nodded. I'll rely on myself.

"Thank you, Ms. Bailey," I said sincerely.

"Are you still leaving?"

I shook my head. "No, I'm not leaving!"

"Then why don't you let go of my hand?"

How could I bear to let go? "Let me give you a massage!"

She looked at me helplessly. "You're such a pervert."

"A man without courage is pathetic," I said.

"Hope you're still this happy when you hear the second piece of news."

I was surprised. "There's more bad news?"

"That day, besides Linda, he was also there, and he seemed to have seen the two of us sitting together!"

Katherine said, "The view from the room was very good. You could see everything happening below clearly."

I felt scared. "What do you mean?"

"It means he might have seen everything you did to me."

I was instantly flustered. What should I do now?

One Joseph already had me in a panic, and now there's Steven. This is going to be tough.

I believe that in the future, I won't be any worse than them, but that takes time.

"What, are you scared?"

"Scared?"

I forced myself to calm down. No matter what, I couldn't lose my composure. "Actually, it's not fear, just nervousness."

She stared at me for a while, then suddenly laughed, "You looked like a frightened, helpless little lamb just now!"

I realized I had been tricked and felt a bit angry. "Who's a little lamb? I'm clearly a dozing dragon!"

She gave me a contemptuous look. "If he really saw it, do you think you'd still be here unscathed?"

"I already guessed that. I was deliberately cooperating with you to put on a show."

"Really?"

She swirled her wine glass. "But if you want to have an affair with me, he'll find out eventually. Have you thought about how to deal with that?"

She took a sip of red wine and said softly, "I know him too well. Compared to Joseph, he's a hungry wolf. Anything that stands in his way, he'll tear apart without mercy. You can't handle that."

I grabbed the wine glass from her hand, placed it on the coffee table, and pinned her down on the sofa. "I'm not afraid of him."

She laughed. "Aren't you afraid of dying?"

"Yes, I'm just an ordinary person."

I leaned down and took a deep breath on her fair, smooth neck. "But I want to create the biggest company, drink the strongest red wine, and have sex with beautiful women!"

"Just you?"

"Just me!"

"Do you have money, power, or influence?"
