Chapter 232

He walked over, step by step, just as the symphony hit its peak. It was thrilling!

But I was in a terrible mood; I knew I had been careless.

"I want this adulterer to see how licentious you are. She probably doesn't know how wanton you are, but she'll soon find out. Then she'll know what kind of person you are. Let's see if she still wants you!"

He grabbed my hair. "Watch closely, and don't faint. This bitch is wild, and if you pass out, you'll miss the exciting part!"

With a sick and twisted smile on his face, he threw the ashtray aside, started unbuckling his belt, and then pounced.

"No, no. John, save me!"

Jenny's cries made me both shocked and furious. At that moment, my head was spinning, and my vision was darkening.

I held on tightly; if I passed out, Jenny would be humiliated by this villain today, and she would never be able to escape his shadow.

I bit down hard on the tip of my tongue, the sharp pain bringing me back to my senses. I was fully awake.

Looking at that lecherous figure, I mustered all my strength, "Joseph, let her go!"

I don't know where the strength came from, but I stood up and punched him in the temple.

The temple is one of the human body's fatal points; a severe blow could cause instant death, and even if not, a concussion is certain.

One punch, two punches, three punches.

While I was still conscious, my fists quickly landed on him, making Joseph howl in pain. He was soon bruised and battered.

After finally knocking him out, I bit my tongue again, the excruciating pain making me feel like I was dying, my mouth full of the taste of blood.

I couldn't pass out, absolutely couldn't. If I did, everything would be exposed.

I sat on the nearby sofa, gasping for air, and touched the back of my head, finding it covered in blood.

In the morning, it was my foot that got injured; by evening, it was my head.

I felt like I was having a streak of bad luck lately.

"John, are you okay? Get up. I'll take you to the hospital!" Jenny came over to help me.

I took out the hairband. "First, give the hairband to Ms. Foster!"

Jenny frowned. "At a time like this, don't worry about Ms. Foster. Get up!"

"What about him?"

Jenny splashed some tea on his face, and Joseph gasped and slowly woke up. "Jenny, Jenny."

He was fine but had no strength left to cause more trouble.

"Let's go." She helped me up.

I quickly said, "It's just a minor injury. I still need to take Ms. Bailey home later."

"Are you trying to kill yourself?" Jenny's eyes were red. "Come with me. I'll explain to Ms. Bailey."

A moment later, she dragged me away without giving me a choice.

In the car, I felt like I was reaching my limit, my head spinning. But even so, I didn't forget to text Jenny.

Jenny looked at me. "I told you, I'll explain to Ms. Bailey. Don't you understand?"

"It's not appropriate. What will Ms. Bailey think if you text her?" I took a deep breath. "It's better if I do it myself."

Jenny suddenly fell silent, the atmosphere in the car becoming oppressively tense. I had a feeling she had guessed something.

Just then, my phone rang. It was a call from Katherine.

"Why did you leave so suddenly?" she asked.

"Something urgent came up at home," I replied.

"Is there anything I can do to help?" she asked again.

"Thank you, Ms. Bailey. I can handle it," I said.

After hanging up, Jenny said, "She seems to care about you a lot."

"Ms. Bailey is a nice person," I replied.

"Are you John?" she suddenly asked.

I gave a bitter smile. "Ms. Smith, if I'm not John, who else could I be?"

"Are you my..."

She tried to stay calm, even trying hard to control her emotions, but her trembling voice betrayed her inner turmoil.

"Ms. Smith, what are you talking about? I am John, really John."

My heart was pounding.

"Really?" she asked.

I licked my dry lips. "Ms. Smith, what exactly are you trying to say?"

Jenny asked, "Do you remember I asked you last time if you knew someone named Troy?"

"I have a vague impression," I replied.

"I just called him for help, and then you showed up. If you're not him, that's quite a coincidence," Jenny said. "How long are you going to keep this from me?"

I smiled bitterly, "I told you, I really came with Ms. Bailey, and I happened to run into Ms. Foster in the restroom, and then I happened to give Ms. Foster the hairband. Why don't you believe me? Maybe I would lie to you, but Ms. Bailey and Ms. Foster wouldn't deceive you, right? You can ask them."

I put on a pitiful look. "What is this? I deliver a hairband and get into trouble, get my head injured, and still get suspected by you. Ms. Smith, even if I offended you before, there's no need to treat me like this, right?"

A trace of doubt flashed across Jenny's face. "I'm not suspecting you; I just want to get to the bottom of things."

"Isn't it easy to get to the bottom of things?"

I said, "You can call that Troy right now."

"You're right!" She reached for her phone but found it missing. "I left my phone at the opera house."

I remained calm because I had thrown her phone there in the chaos.

Only by doing this could I clear myself of suspicion. Even if she still doubted, it would only be a doubt!

Of course, this doubt wouldn't last long because I could guess her thoughts completely.

For example, these days were the ones we had agreed to meet for the third time. My head was injured, and even if I didn't get stitches, I would need bandages and medication, which couldn't be hidden.

Or she might ask me to take off my mask.

I thoguht to myself, 'Forget it. No matter what, I'll delay as long as I can.'

As she spoke, her hand suddenly reached over. Startled, I quickly dodged.

"What are you trying to do?"

Her expression was a bit unnatural. "My hand is a bit uncomfortable, just stretching it."

I wouldn't believe such a lame excuse.

She clearly wanted to touch my face!

That night, she traced the contours of my face over and over with her hand. If she touched me again, I would be done for.

"Is it really not you?"

"Ms. Smith, have you ever seen someone doing a good deed and being so secretive about it?" I said, "This is a great opportunity. I wouldn't hide it and would be eager to make friends with Ms. Smith. I wouldn't deny it."

Hearing me say this, Jenny looked even more puzzled.

"Alright, if it's not you, then it's not."

Jenny said seriously, "You did well today. As for the past, I'll let it go, but about what you saw and heard today..."

I quickly said, "No one else will know."

"Good!" Jenny nodded. "If I find out you're spreading rumors, I won't let you off."

"Don't worry, Ms. Smith. I don't have many virtues, but I don't talk nonsense."

I breathed a sigh of relief, thinking I had finally fooled her.

But then Jenny suddenly said, "Dear, are we going to the Hilton or Sevan City Hotel this time?"

"Of course..."

As soon as the words left my mouth, I realized something was wrong. This woman was tricking me!

First, she relaxed, then took the opportunity to defeat me.

I was already using a lot of energy to stay conscious, and her question almost made me answer without thinking.

I thought, 'This is bad. I'm exposed!'

"John, how dare you lie to me!"

With a screech, the car came to an abrupt stop by the roadside!
