Chapter 428

So, I headed straight to Katherine's office. The moment I walked in, Katherine looked all frazzled and said, "John, thank God you're here! I need to talk to you!"

I asked, "What's up?"

"The investors want to meet today. I have to go to Visionary Media Group!"

"Wait, isn't Steven at the company? Won't he find out if you go there?"

Katherine sighed. "He came to the company just for this. Jenny can't go, so it's on me. This is the second negotiation. If it goes well, we can sign the contract. And Steven wants my shares!"

I frowned. "What? Steven wants your shares? No way, you can't give them to him!"

Katherine's eyes flashed with anger. "I know. I worked my butt off for those shares. No one's taking them from me!"

I pulled her into a hug. "You've got me. He won't dare try anything."

"We need to speed up our plan!" Katherine pushed me away and pulled out a contract from her drawer. "Sign this!"

"What is it?" I walked over and saw it was a share transfer agreement for Visionary Media Group. "You want to transfer the shares to me?"

"Yes, I trust you. It's the safest move!"

"No, I can't sign this!"

"What are you afraid of? Are you planning to betray me?"

"How could I ever betray you?"

"Then sign it. We need to act fast. I can only transfer the shares to you, or Steven will take them."

I slammed my fist on the desk. "I'll find someone to take him out." Seeing Katherine so scared and worried made my blood boil.

Katherine hugged me. "John, you need to stay calm. I need your help, okay? Sign it. I'll get it notarized, and then someone will handle your part."

I took a deep breath. "Alright, I'll sign." I scribbled my name on the share transfer agreement. Katherine gave me a deep kiss, and I hugged her tight, wishing I could become one with her.

After the kiss, Katherine said, "When I come back, I'll be a new person, free and all yours!"

I nodded. "Alright!"

Katherine left. I knew what she was walking into, but I couldn't stop her.

If this were back in the Crystal Nation, I could've called in some favors. I even regretted smashing that satellite phone. Maybe that crazy organization could've handled it, no problem!

But Katherine wanted a clean slate, to leave her past behind. I had to respect that. Staring at the bustling city, a wave of fear hit me—what if Katherine didn't come back?

Amelia still hadn't contacted me. When I called, her phone was disconnected. I went to her place and found out it had been sold. A young couple I didn't know answered the door. Only then did I realize how long it had been since I last visited her.

I thought, 'Am I losing Amelia too?' I wanted to find her, but I had no clue where to start. But even if I found her, then what? What could I possibly say to win her back?

I sat in the office, lost in thought, until Marry knocked on the door, snapping me out of it. "What's up?"

Marry grinned. "Good news, I've set up a meeting with that person!"

"Really?" I perked up. "Where's the meeting?"

"Royal Palace Hotel at noon!"

I hugged her and gave her a big kiss. "You're the best assistant ever. How'd you pull it off?"

"It was pure luck. My friend is her relative," Marry said with a grin.

"Alright, let's get going." This had been bugging me for a while. Even though I had the Greenvale City branch backing me, Sevan City was my main gig. Whether it was Skyliart Group or Stellar Media Network, I wasn't letting them off the hook.

We got to the Royal Palace Hotel and picked a nice, private room. After a bit, there was a knock on the door. Marry opened it. "Caitlin!"

Caitlin, Marry's friend, was really pretty. Next to her was a woman in a business skirt. The woman looked around thirty, though she was actually thirty-five, with that mature charm. She was stunning and looked young, about Marry's age. I stood up. "Hey there!"

Caitlin walked in, giving me a once-over. "Marry, is this the guy you like? He's pretty handsome!"

Marry blushed and introduced us, "John, this is my friend Caitlin, and this is Besty, Caitlin's sister-in-law."

"Hey Caitlin, hey Besty!" I greeted them with a smile.

Besty nodded, looking a bit aloof. "Nice to meet you."

Besty? Nice name! "Please, have a seat!" I pulled out chairs for them.

"Thanks!" Besty nodded slightly.

To break the ice, Marry kept the conversation going, and Caitlin helped steer it towards Besty.

The food came, and with some wine, Besty started opening up. "I heard WY Media Company signed a deal with our association, right?"

I nodded. "Yeah, that's right. But out of nowhere, the association wants to cancel the deal. We're confused and don't know what went wrong."

I raised my glass. "Please, Besty, enlighten me."

Besty said coolly, "It's both simple and complicated. It depends on whether you are willing to put in more effort."

"What do you mean?"

"The previous deal was five million dollars a year for ads and promotions. There are over two thousand taxis in Sevan City, so the average cost per taxi is less than three thousand dollars. Spread out over a month, it's only about three hundred dollars per taxi."

I thought, 'So, they think the money's too little?' But there were tons of media companies in Sevan City, and at least seven or eight had ties with the association. Some paid as little as two or three million dollars. We offered five million, which was above average.

But since we got her here today, no point in haggling over a bit of cash. We need to show we're serious. "Seven million dollars," I said.

Besty replied, "Good attitude, but still not enough!"

"Seven million dollars is my final offer!" Seven million was my limit. Even Stellar Media Network didn't pay more than that!

"It seems like you’re not sincere enough."

I smiled and shook my head. "It's not about lacking sincerity. If I'm here today, it means I'm serious. Besty, I know you always look out for the association members, and I respect that. But no one's money comes easy, and WY Media Company has other options too."

Besty's expression shifted slightly. "WY Media Company has other options?"

"Of course!"
