Chapter 72
Before she could finish her words, the office door swung open, and an angry bellowed, "John, get your ass in here."
Grace and I jumped at the sudden outburst. She swiftly pulled away, putting some distance between us.
I sighed inwardly. What a missed opportunity just by a hair's breadth.
I stood up, and Grace, looking apprehensive, gave me a 'good luck' glance.
"John, go in and bear with it," Paul said.
I nodded, and as I passed by Lily, she suddenly asked, "Need me to tag along?"
I paused and shook my head. "No need. I reckon I'll be the one facing the consequences this time. Better not involve you."
With that, I strode into the office.
"Close the door!" Jenny's voice was cold.
I shut the door and saw Nicole sitting across from Jenny with red eyes. Why the tears?
"Ms. Smith, did you call me for something?" I asked.
"Do you have the nerve to ask me what's wrong? Is it really necessary to stir up drama over some office banter?" Jenny slammed the table. "Look at how you've upset Nicole. You owe her an apology and prepare a five-hundred-word self-critique. Tomorrow morning, you will publicly review yourself in front of everyone at the meeting."
Apologize? Where did I go wrong?
And I have to critique myself publicly? Then what was the point of my actions today? Was I asking for trouble?
"Ms. Smith, didn't you see the video in the group? They started it, mocking and taunting me. I just wanted him to honor the bet!"
"That's enough, shut up." Jenny's tone turned icy. Nicole has already intervened. Why are you still unrelenting? Make an apology to Nicole now. I'll overlook this. Otherwise, don't blame me for following the company's rules and regulations."
I was also getting irritated. Did I owe her money or sleep with her? Why target me like this?
After bringing in a two-million-dollar deal for the company, instead of treating me like a treasure, she's bossing me around. What's her game?
Did she think I was a pushover?
Firmly, I retorted, "If there's any apology due, it's from Nicole to me!"
"What did you say?" Jenny slammed the table and stood up, her brows furrowed.
"Clearly, they were at fault first, coming over to stir up trouble. Why should I apologize to them?"
"Just because she's a supervisor and you're just a regular employee, don't you understand the hierarchy? What right do you have to demand an apology from her? Who do you think you are?" Jenny said harshly.
Upon hearing this, I exploded. The anger in me almost consumed my rationality.
I realized then, some attacks weren't about the issue, they were personal!
She thought I was an easy target, so regardless of right or wrong, it must be my fault.
It was just because she's used to bullying me.
"That's enough!" I had had it and couldn't hold back anymore.
My furious shout startled Nicole, and even Jenny froze in place.
Even the sound of the phone outside quieted down.
There was a brief pause, and when Jenny regained her composure, she flew into a rage, grabbing a pen holder and hurling it at my head.
But I easily dodged it.
"Are you trying to hit me? Don't blame me for not being polite."
"Are you trying to hit me? Don't push me." My anger boiled over. "You think I'm your lapdog? Who do you think you are? Just because you're big at Skyliho, you think you can control everyone? Do you think I have no backbone? If anyone owes an apology, it's Ms. Cooper to me!"
"What are you looking at? Do you think you're something special?" I pointed at Nicole's nose, "Twisting the truth, making a mountain out of a molehill, stirring up conflicts among colleagues every day in the company! Can you do something productive?"
After the tirade, I felt a sense of relief. "I'm done with this!"
With that, I stormed out of the office, slamming the door behind me.
"What are you all staring at? Never seen someone lose their cool before!" I bellowed, relishing every moment. I'd been itching to do this for ages!
It feels good and so satisfying!
Paul hurried over, saying, "John, are you out of your mind? Did you just shout in Ms. Smith's office? Didn't I tell you to endure?"
Grace also ran over and asked, "John, what's going on?"
At that moment, Philip stepped forward, saying, "John, what's with the arrogance? Shouting in Ms. Smith's office, showing complete disregard for company rules. You're done for!"
I shot Philip a cold smirk. Even if I leave, I won't let him off easy.
I rushed over and kicked him.
"Oh!" He clutched his stomach and knelt on the ground. I grabbed his hair, saying, "You've pushed me too far. Don't ever show up in front of me again, or I'll beat you every time I see you!"
With that, I grabbed my bag from my desk and strode out of the office area.
Everyone was dumbfounded, watching Philip writhing on the ground, but no one moved to help him.
Paul hurried over to stop me. "John, why are you so impulsive?"
Grace blocked my path. "John, you can't leave. If you were left, what about me?"
I don't care what happens to you!
I'm too angry right now to care about that.
Lily followed suit. "John, have you caused enough trouble?"
At this point, you're still acting all high and mighty. If I acknowledge you, you're the boss; if I don't, you're nothing but hot air!
"Ms. Wilson, from now on, I'm not your subordinate, and you're not my supervisor. Starting from this moment, you have no authority over me. Do you understand?"
After being taken advantage of me for a year, it's already good that I didn't resort to violence.
"Your... don't you want your commission?"
"It's fine. I'll talk to Edward and George. With so many companies under Sevan, not just Skyliho, why should I be shortchanged by you all? I've had enough; get lost right now!"
At that moment, the anger that had been building up inside me erupted completely. Staying here would only lead to being exploited. I only received a 320 grand commission from a 40-million-dollar deal, and it would be even less for a 20-million-dollar deal.
Am I an idiot to hand over the money I earned just to save face?
"John, you..."
"You've been milking me for a year, and I've kept my mouth shut. You've been enjoying it in secret. Well, guess what? That's over now. Beat it!"
At this moment, my blood was boiling. I was envisioning countless scenes that were finally coming to fruition.
