Chapter 367
I was sprawled out on the hospital bed, feeling totally wiped, and before I knew it, I was out like a light.
Next morning, I woke up to find Connie snoozing on the recliner. Even lying down, her full chest didn't seem to change a bit. Her skirt had a slit that showed off her gorgeous legs.
I even caught a glimpse of a few black pubic hairs peeking out from her semi-transparent lace panties. I gulped. Seeing this first thing in the morning, my sexual desire shot through the roof.
Just then, the doctor knocked on the door for rounds, and Connie woke up too. Our eyes met, and I felt a bit embarrassed, quickly looking away.
Connie greeted with a smile, acting like she didn't care at all.
"Thanks," I said.
Connie stood up, casually tied her hair, and opened the door. The doctor checked me over, and said, "We'll do a blood test today. If everything's fine, you can be discharged."
I replied, "Thanks, doc."
As soon as the doctor left, Abigail came in with Wendy.
"Ms. Kingsley, here to see your boyfriend so early?" Connie teased.
Abigail blushed and was carrying a lunchbox. "Ms. Wilson, thanks for last night. I made breakfast; please have some."
Wendy walked over. "John, I heard from Abigail that you were so brave last night, rushing into the fire alone and saving everyone."
Her eyes sparkled with admiration. "It's a pity I wasn't there."
I gave a wry smile. If there had been one more person, I might not have made it out. "Wendy, I don't want that again."
Wendy stuck out her tongue. "I like excitement, you know that."
"Ms. Kingsley, since you're here, I'll take my leave," Connie said.
"Alright, I'll see you out!" Abigail put down the lunchbox.
Connie looked at me. "I'll be going now. Let's keep in touch."
She smiled slightly and walked out with her long legs.
After she left, Wendy asked me, "Tell me, what were you thinking last night? Such a big fire, and you just rushed in. Weren't you scared at all?"
"Of course, I was scared," I said, touching my nose. "But the situation was urgent. The longer I waited, the more dangerous it would be for them."
"Was it because Abigail was inside that you were so brave?"
I nodded. "Not entirely. She was with me, and I had to bring her back safely. Otherwise, I'd live with guilt for the rest of my life."
As I said this, Abigail walked in, her face turning even redder upon hearing my words.
"Abigail, did you hear that?" Wendy grabbed Abigail's hand. "I told you he rushed in for you."
Abigail blushed and softly responded. I thought to myself, 'Stop trying to matchmake us.'
Seeing the growing affection in Abigail's eyes, I knew I had to clarify things soon to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings.
Abigail served me a bowl of porridge. "John, I made this myself. Try it."
She didn't dare look at me, her eyes filled with affection like a young girl in love.
I took the porridge, feeling increasingly heavy-hearted. "Thanks, Ms. Kingsley."
"Ms. Kingsley?" Wendy said. "You two were holding hands and hugging last night, and you still call her Ms. Kingsley?"
"Wendy," Abigail said, a bit annoyed, "Stop talking nonsense. John had no choice but to do that to save me."
"But I heard you were hugging John and crying in the ward yesterday."
Abigail, super embarrassed, raised her fist to hit Wendy but then lowered it. "John, don't listen to her. She just likes to joke around."
I chuckled. "I get it."
The porridge tasted good, but I felt a bit awkward eating it.
By eleven in the morning, after the test results came out, I was discharged.
"John, don't leave yet," Abigail said, blushing, her hands fidgeting. "My dad wants to see you!"
"Why?" I asked.
"You know why," Wendy chimed in.
"Wendy, stop talking nonsense," Abigail said, her tone getting serious.
"Fine, I won't say anything." Wendy pouted.
Abigail explained, "You saved me yesterday, and my dad wants to thank you in person."
I felt a bit uneasy. "I appreciate Mr. Kingsley's kindness, but I just did what anyone would do. There's no need to make a big deal out of it. Besides, I was the one who invited you out, so I had to make sure you got back safely."
Abigail's eyes dimmed. Wendy said, "Just go. Why are you being so fussy? People would kill to see Mr. Kingsley, and you're refusing."
"But I look like a mess right now."
I thought, 'If others want to go, that's their business. I really don't want to go.' So I said, "I'll go when I'm feeling better."
Then Abigail's eyes lit up again. "It's okay. My dad doesn't mind. He's waiting for you at home today."
"You should know, Mr. Kingsley is usually very busy. If you don't go, he'll be upset," Wendy added.
I thought, 'A threat, definitely a threat!'
"Alright, I'll go," I said, forcing a smile.
I thought, 'People would kill for this opportunity, and I don't even want to go. Who would believe that?'
The car turned into a quiet yard with soldiers standing guard at the entrance, making me very nervous.
There were also soldiers on guard inside the yard. I swallowed hard and thought, 'What level of officer is this?'
At that moment, I was extremely anxious.
Wendy said, "Don't be nervous. Mr. Kingsley is kind."
"I'm not nervous," I pretended, but my legs were shaking.
Unlike those rich kids, this was someone with real power. I took a deep breath, and my strong heart came into play.
I thought, 'It's just a meeting. It's not like he'll kill me.'
After some mental preparation, my legs finally stopped shaking.
"Mom, I brought John," Abigail said to Cecelia Sharp, who had a kind face and a resemblance to Abigail.
"Mrs. Kingsley," Wendy also greeted.
"You must be John," Cecelia said, smiling warmly as she looked at me.
"Nice to meet you, ma'am!" I quickly stepped forward.
"Don't be nervous. I heard about what happened last night. You were very brave and prevented a disaster."
Feeling a bit nervous, I quickly said, "Mrs. Kingsley, you flatter me. I just did what anyone would do. If I hadn't gone in, someone else would have."
"Well said!" At that moment, a loud voice came from behind me.
I turned to see a middle-aged man in a military uniform, Vincent Kingsley, walking over. "Not arrogant, not boastful. You're a good man."
Seeing his familiar face made me tremble inside. I had guessed that Abigail's father was a high-ranking officer, but I didn't expect it to be him.
I often saw him on the news, not in politics, but as a high-ranking military officer. "Nice to meet you, I'm John Cena!"
