Chapter 338
"Yo, what's up with your brother?" I asked, all curious.
Marry just snorted, "He's out there, fooling around."
I broke into a cold sweat, "Seriously? You gotta talk about your own brother like that?"
"Why not? If he's got the guts to do it, people should know. He's chasing Lauren while messing around. No way Lauren's gonna go for that."
Then it hit me, 'No wonder Lauren turned Edward down. Dude's so irresponsible, even his sister's calling him out.'
"And what’s that got to do with me?" I asked, trying to steer the conversation back on track.
"Guys get shady when they get money, and your company’s packed with hotties." She said, her eyes fixed on mine.
Women's intuition, man.
I quickly reassured her, "I swear, you mean the world to me."
"Yeah, right. Feels like you're lying."
"How could I? I'm dead serious."
"Not buying it!"
Marry snorted, "From now on, I'm the deputy general manager. What do you want me to handle?"
I rubbed my chin, "How about you take charge of e-commerce? VelocityMart's a project I'm really into. We’ll turn our fans into exclusive channel fans."
"And the rest?"
"They're doing fine! Try it out first. Once VelocityMart takes off, everyone will see your worth."
Marry nodded, "You do have a point."
It took a lot to calm her down. That afternoon, I had HR announce Marry as the new deputy general manager.
Everyone else was cool with it. Marry had been around a lot, so the senior staff knew her well.
But then, trouble hit. First, Lucy called, then Rita. Even though it was just work stuff, I could tell Rita was jealous.
Finally, Mia, that little minx, barged into my office. Without a word, she started undoing my belt, which freaked me out.
"What the hell are you doing?"
She stayed silent, then started taking off her stockings right in front of me.
"You need to chill."
Mia still didn't say a word, she pushed me down, laid my chair flat, and was about to climb on top of me. I quickly stopped her, "What are you doing?"
"Everyone's fighting over you, I want you now."
I was speechless. She was acting out because of Marry.
I hugged her, but she squirmed in my arms. I gave her a firm smack on the butt, "Calm down!"
"How can I calm down?"
Mia felt wronged, "John, you're such a jerk!"
"Okay, okay, I'm a jerk, don't be mad!"
"Tell me, why does she get to be deputy general manager, and I'm just a deputy at a subsidiary?"
I placed my hand on her thigh, my hand wandering, she hummed and patted my hand away.
I kept touching her, "Don't move, listen to me."
She blushed, her breathing quickening.
While caressing her, I said, "You know, WY Media wouldn't be where it is without her. Back then, it was just me, and she helped out. Even Mr. Brown was her find. Half of WY Media's staff were hired by her. No one's complaining, right?"
"Really?" she asked, a flicker of doubt in her eyes.
"If you don't believe me, ask Mr. Brown. I wouldn't lie to you."
I said, "Her brother's the CEO of Walker Company. The first deal I got was through him. Without that, I wouldn't have made it. Plus, she helped me start the business. She totally deserves to be deputy general manager."
"And when I'm not around, she often helps out. You know how capable she is."
The jealousy on Mia's face faded, "But I still feel uneasy!"
I booped her nose and pulled out a document from the drawer, "Check this out!"
"Stock transfer agreement?"
Mia was floored, staring at the document. "You're giving me fifteen percent of Everlasting New Media?"
She looked at me, eyes full of gratitude, and I ruffled her hair, "You earned it."
Everlasting New Media was killing it, way beyond what we expected. The valuation alone was over a hundred million bucks.
I thought, 'Man, Everlasting New Media's worth more than some old-school industries. Besides Lily, our top streamer, the other accounts have over three million fans each.'
'Add in the other social platforms, and her fanbase is over twenty-two million.'
'We used to do e-commerce, but now it's all moved to VelocityMart.'
She gave me a joyful kiss, "I love you so much. I knew I wasn't wrong about you."
Tears of joy rolled down her cheeks, and I wiped them away, "I told you, I won't let you down."
Even though Mia and I hadn't hooked up yet, I appreciated her hustle. She might tease me sometimes, but that was just her way of showing love.
If she was cool with Marry's promotion, then I’d feel weird.
"Honey, let's do it!"
She kissed me passionately.
I was into it too, but we were in the office, and it’d be awkward if someone walked in.
So I said, "I'll come over to your place tonight, okay?"
"Okay!"
The love in her eyes was intense, "I'll be waiting for you tonight."
She gave me a playful pat and, right in front of me, put her stockings back on before swaying her hips as she left.
I called HR to update the subsidiary company info.
Now Mia was a shareholder of the subsidiary under WY Media Company.
The only headache was figuring out how to keep these women from fighting.
Then I thought, 'Forget it, I'll deal with it later. I’ve got plenty of time.'
When I got to VelocityMart, Daniel was working under the marketing manager. He was just a regular marketing specialist, but he was super dedicated.
I’d subtly asked around and was pretty happy with what I heard.
"Mr. Cena!" Daniel nodded and greeted me.
I nodded back, patted his shoulder, "How are the new recruits handling the workload?"
"It's good, a bit tiring, but we’re learning a lot. Mr. Williams is really dedicated to teaching us."
Mr. Williams from the marketing department walked over, "Mr. Cena! The app is in internal testing and should be ready for public testing next week. We’ve passed the review on major mobile platforms and connected with big logistics companies, but..."
"But what?" I asked, sensing a note of hesitation in his voice.
"Their pricing is exorbitant," he replied, his brow furrowed. "Ms. Evangeline was hoping to secure a specialized logistics provider since we deal exclusively with luxury goods. Even our pre-owned items are highly valuable. Standard shipping methods pose too great a risk of damage."
I frowned, "Where's Ms. Evangeline?"
"In her office!"
"Go, call all the VelocityMart management over. I'll be waiting in the conference room."
I had big hopes for VelocityMart. While luxury goods trading platforms are common among big e-commerce companies, specialized ones, especially for second-hand items, are rare.
If we nailed this, the market would be huge.
Soon, everyone was gathered.
Even though VelocityMart hadn't been around long, it was expanding fast, with top talent from other subsidiaries.
"I just heard from Mr. Williams that we’re having delivery issues?"
I looked at Aria, "Ms. Evangeline, got any solutions?"
"I want to talk to the head of the Sevan City branch of the courier service, but they’re asking for a crazy high price. For special delivery, it's thirty million dollars a year!" she replied.
I was stunned, 'What?'
'30 million dollars a year for delivery fees?'
