Chapter 353

The contrast made me wanna laugh.

"Dude, you can totally hypnotize yourself," I said, leaning in conspiratorially. "Just keep telling yourself that Mr. Kingsley is your father-in-law. Repeat it like a mantra until you believe it, and then you won't freak out when you see him."

"But it's normal for me to be scared of him." Quinlan protested.

"Well, are you scared of your own dad?"

"No."

"Then just picture him as your dad."

"Wouldn't that mean I have two dads?"

I felt kinda helpless, "A father-in-law is still a dad."

"True." Quinlan gave an awkward smile.

I said, "Just treat him like a dad, but don't be all fake about it. Be real."

"What else?"

"Turn over a new leaf, and stop going to places like Moonlight Bar. Going there gives a bad impression."

"Do I really have to?"

"Absolutely, and I think I know why her dad's mad."

"Why?"

"Did you take Ms. Kingsley to Moonlight Bar last time?"

"Yeah."

"If you had a daughter and some guy took her to a place like that, what would you think?"

Quinlan's face went pale, "I'd kill him!"

"Exactly, Mr. Kingsley feels the same way."

Quinlan got scared, "If I go over, won't Mr. Kingsley break my legs?"

"Even if he does, you gotta take it and say nothing. Tell him you genuinely like Ms. Kingsley and you're turning over a new leaf."

"If you really mean it and aim to do better, do you think her dad can stop you?"

"You're right."

Quinlan's face lit up, "I should've thought of that. You're really a relationship guru."

I smiled faintly. I had to look the part since I was pretending to be an emotional master.

"Alright, I'll follow your advice."

Quinlan then asked, "Can we exchange contact info?"

I nodded and added him on Facebook, got his number too. "It's getting late, I'll head back now. I'll wait for your good news tomorrow."

"I'll have my driver take you."

I smiled and didn't refuse. He probably wanted to find out where I live.

Back at the apartment, I was wiped out.

My brain was fried, but it wasn't over yet.

I quickly used a secondary account to search for Abigail's Facebook.

Her account name was super artsy, which confirmed my suspicions.

After adding her, she didn't accept, probably asleep.

I wasn't in a rush and checked my messages.

Lily sent me a message, and so did Eloise. I didn't even look at them and switched to another account.

Nicole sent me messages, all photos and videos of her.

Nicole was really hot.

I tossed the phone aside and quickly fell asleep.

Early the next morning, a message notification woke me up. Abigail had added me.

Abigail: [Hello.]

I immediately woke up, she really accepted.

I wondered how to reply.

[Hello, are you Ms. Kingsley?]

[Who are you?]

[How do you know my name?]

[Don't you remember? We met at Dreamscape Books a few days ago.]

Quinlan said she loved reading and liked to buy books at bookstores, even going to Book Sea Haven to buy old books.

[Did we?]

[Of course, you even gave me your Facebook.]

I replied: [Are you going to Dreamscape Books today? Or Book Sea Haven?]

I couldn't give her a chance to think too much. I needed to act like we were already close.

[Did we really meet? Did I really give you my Facebook? I don't remember.]

[You were so into your book when you gave me your info. I added you on Facebook, being all bold and stuff.]

[That must be it.]

[Ms. Kingsley, can I invite you to read together today?]

[We're not very familiar.]

She shot me down right away.

[How about we hit up Book Sea Haven to buy some books?]

[You like buying books too?]

[Yeah, I love old books.]

I replied: [But I’m kinda new to this and get scammed a lot.]

[So, Ms. Kingsley, can I ask for your help?]

Abigail: [I’m studying old books today!]

I thought, 'She’s really into reading.'

[Reading’s more fun together. How about we find a quiet tea house, drink tea, and read? In the afternoon, when the sun sets, we can go to Book Sea Haven?]

[Okay, but I’ll bring a friend!]

I was stoked, but then I thought it was kinda weird since she wasn’t acting shy at all.

'A true bookworm,' I thought, a genuine smile touching my lips.

I thought for a sec, and I typed: [Tea Melody House, I’ll be waiting for you there.]

[Okay!]

I jumped out of bed, super excited, and quickly got ready.

When picking clothes, I ditched the suit and went for something more casual.

Then I cleaned up and headed to Tea Melody House.

This tea house had killer ratings and a sweet vibe inside.

Around 9:30 in the morning, the private room door knocked, and two elegant girls walked in.

Leading the way was Abigail, and the girl behind her was also sweet and cute, looking really pretty.

"Hey Ms. Kingsley," I said, rising to my feet. "It's great to finally meet you. I'm John Cena."

Abigail smiled and nodded slightly, "This is my cousin, Wendy Rodriguez!"

"Hey!"

Wendy smiled and nodded.

Then they both started reading their books. I didn’t say anything, just made tea for them and picked up a book I had just bought from the bookstore.

Honestly, it made my head spin. I should’ve picked an easier book.

But to show off, I had to pretend to be super into it. Time dragged on, and I actually got into it.

If the waiter hadn’t come to ask if we needed snacks, we might’ve kept going.

It was already noon.

I closed the book, "Time flies when you’re reading, it’s easy to get lost in it."

Abigail gently closed her book, "Thanks for the hospitality, Mr. Cena."

Seeing they were about to leave, I quickly said, "Let’s have lunch together."

I looked at the waiter, "Do you serve lunch here?"

"Yes!"

"We’ll have lunch here."

Abigail looked at me curiously, "Mr. Cena, how did you know I like to have lunch here?"

"You forgot, you told me last time."

Abigail frowned slightly, "Did I really say that last time?"

Wendy said, "Abigail, you must’ve forgotten."

Wendy laughed, "You know how you get when you’re deep in a book. I’m sure you told Mr. Cena while you were lost in the sea of books."

I wanted to give Wendy a thumbs up, good girl.

Abigail nodded thoughtfully, "Okay then."

Seeing she wasn’t dwelling on it, I breathed a sigh of relief.

At that moment, her phone rang. She took it out and frowned again.

"It’s a call from my family."

"Mr. Cena, I need to take this call."

I quickly stood up, "Alright, I’ll go to the restroom."
