Chapter 425
The three of them quickly took off. Calling the cops? No way. He was knee-deep in tax evasion and embezzlement. He wished he could vanish on the spot, let alone get involved.
After getting a million bucks, I pulled out five hundred grand and said, "Patrick, here's a little something to show my appreciation. Treat your guys to a meal!" I figured there were at least fifty or sixty people last night, so that'd be about seven or eight grand each.
Patrick replied, "John, you think I'm cheap or something?"
I gave a wry smile. "No, man. Just wanna thank you and your crew for having my back."
Patrick didn't push it. Instead, he turned to the bodyguards around us. "Aren't you gonna thank Mr. Cena?"
"Thank you, Mr. Cena!" they all shouted in unison.
I quickly waved my hand. "Thanks, guys. Appreciate all your hard work."
Just then, my phone buzzed. It was Quinlan. "John, we're on the plane. We'll be there in an hour. Pick me up, okay?"
"Got it, no problem!" After hanging up, I turned to Patrick. "Hey, can you come with me to pick up a friend later?"
"Sure thing!" Patrick nodded enthusiastically.
In the airport lounge, Patrick asked, "Who's this friend of yours?"
I didn't hold back. "You know the Four in Greenvale City, right?"
"Of course, I do. They're the richest folks around!" Patrick said, a bit envious. "It's tough for regular people to get into that circle. Even I don't have the connections!"
Then it hit him. "Wait, does your friend have something to do with them?"
Just as I was about to answer, I heard someone shout, "John!"
I looked over and saw Quinlan walking our way, with Richard and his fiancée Angelica in tow. Beside Angelica was Connie, with her voluptuous curves.
I thought, 'What's Connie doing here?' I asked Quinlan, "Why are you dressed like that?"
Quinlan grinned. "Getting ready for the beach, of course."
I greeted others. "Richard!"
"John, long time no see. You're looking sharp."
"Angelica, hey!"
Angelica smiled. "Hey, John."
As for Connie, she took off her sunglasses and gave me a big hug. "John, happy to see me?"
"Happy? Of course, I'm happy!"
Seeing Connie, Patrick couldn't take his eyes off her. I coughed and walked over. "Patrick, let me introduce you. This is Quinlan. This is Richard, and next to him is his fiancée, Angelica! And this here is Connie Wilson!"
Patrick snapped out of it, looking surprised. He quickly extended his hand. "Nice to meet you, Quinlan. I'm Patrick! Richard, hey. We met at a party before, remember?"
Richard looked a bit puzzled. Among the rich kids in Greenvale City, he was one of the top dogs. Even if he wasn't the absolute top, he was still pretty high up there!
Patrick, being a rich kid from Sevan City, usually didn't leave much of an impression. But out of respect for me, Richard warmly said, "Hi, Patrick!"
Patrick's face lit up, and he walked over to Connie, "Ms. Wilson, glad to see you!"
Connie extended her hand, "Me too!"
I looked at Patrick and noticed his gaze towards Connie was a bit off. I quickly said, "Come on, let me take you to the hotel first, and then I'll show you the famous Sunshine Shore in Sevan City!"
In the car, Patrick chatted with Quinlan and the others, while Connie sat close to me. She whispered, "John, you left without a word. Do you still care about me?"
I broke out in a cold sweat. Luckily, Richard and the others were deep in conversation and didn't notice. "Yes, of course, I do!"
"Then you have to stay with me these days!"
"Alright, I'll stick around!"
Connie finally smiled. "But don't worry, I'm not just here to have fun in Sevan City. I also have work to do, so I won't be clinging to you all the time."
I sighed in relief. "Does your family have business in Sevan City?"
"No, my family has been operating in the North. Now that the northern market is getting saturated, our plan for the next three years is to slowly move to the South. The demand for collective heating in the South is also growing."
I nodded. Sevan City might have a mild climate year-round, but other places still got pretty cold in winter, and there wasn't much difference between indoors and outdoors. Even air conditioning might not cut it.
Connie continued, "Additionally, my family plans to invest in the South. This time, we're also looking to invest in some promising companies. If you know of any suitable ones, you can recommend them!"
I thought, 'Invest in companies? Visionary Media Group has been seeking investment. I wonder if they've succeeded! If Visionary Media Group had the support of the Wilson family, that would be awesome.'
"Okay, if I find any suitable ones, I'll definitely recommend them to you," I said with a smile.
Connie smiled and said, "Actually, the company I most want to invest in is your WY Media Company! Consider it a gift for our wedding in advance."
I broke out in a cold sweat. I glanced at Quinlan and Richard, who were deep in conversation. But at that moment, Angelica glanced our way with a knowing smile on her face. I felt very nervous and wondered if Angelica knew about us.
We arrived at the hotel closest to the beach, the only six-star hotel in Sevan City. I booked three presidential suites for them.
"John, I didn't expect that after you went to Greenvale City, you would accomplish such an earth-shattering feat!" Quinlan and Richard kept praising me in the car.
Patrick also knew the whole story. He patted my shoulder. "You're really brave. It's hard not to get rich!"
I scratched my head. "I was in a hurry at the time and didn't think much."
"Do you know why they didn't dare to rush in?"
"Fear?"
"Fear is part of it," Patrick said. "If I were there, I wouldn't have gone in either."
"Why?"
"Since the family property needs to be inherited, I can't afford to fall into a crisis. Do you understand?"
I nodded, instantly getting it. He continued, "You're a wealthy man now. You need to think more about yourself. Your status is different now."
Although Patrick made a lot of sense, in life, some things could be given up, and some things not. Good people would be rewarded; this was the truth I believed in.
At this point, the four of us had already changed into our gear. Angelica was wearing a relatively conservative one-piece swimsuit, but her slim figure still made it hard to look away.
As for Connie, she was wearing a sexy bikini. Patrick's breathing became rapid. He whispered, "John, I'm smitten. Can you set me up with Ms. Wilson?"
I thought to myself, 'He really has his eyes on Connie. But how could I introduce my girl to someone else?'
I could only silently apologize to Patrick in my heart. "Patrick, I'll try!"
"Okay, John, that's all I need to hear!"
The six of us arrived at the hotel's pool, which had an artificial beach. Dozens of women with hot bodies in bikinis were playing beach volleyball.
Quinlan whistled. "The women in Sevan City are really beautiful. I should have come here sooner!"
Richard was also a bit tempted, but with Angelica by his side, he had to stay with her. Connie was sunbathing on a lounge chair. Her perfect figure stood out among the women, instantly outshining them.
