Chapter 77
So that was why I felt so dizzy.
It must be a bodily reaction caused by excessive bleeding.
"How long was I out?" I inquired.
"Six hours!" Lillian said.
"Thank you for taking care of me,” I expressed my gratitude.
"No problem at all. I'm not even tired," she reassured me with a smile before making a call to her father.
After hanging up the phone, I asked her, "What about those two people?"
"They've been arrested. The police might ask you for a statement tomorrow."
I nodded, then asked, "Where's my phone?"
"Here you go!"
She quickly handed me the phone that had been placed aside. I checked the missed calls. Lily had called several times, Grace and Paul had also called, and so did Jenny. What surprised me the most was that Katherine had actually called me.
Not only that, but there were also friend requests from Linda.
Damn, Linda added me first?
I thought to myself, maybe it was better not to accept it for now.
Then came a message from Mary: [I've already informed Skyliho's side. If you're not there, the contract will be terminated. My brother also said he would help you!]
Seeing her message warmed my heart.
Next was a message from George, which was similar to Mary's.
These two people would definitely need a reply.
After that, Gary walked in and checked up on me, "You holding up, Mr. Cena?"
"Fit as a fiddle," I assured him.
The young man behind him was carrying a bunch of supplements. "Mr. Cena, the doctor said you've lost a lot of blood. These are supplements to replenish your blood and energy. Please take these gifts; it's good for your health."
"Thanks a bunch. But really, no need for all this," I declined politely.
"John, let me introduce you. This is my father, as you already know, and this is my older brother, Frank Allen!"
"Mr. Cena, thank you for saving my sister. I don't know how to thank you enough because no words can express my gratitude! If you ever need help in the future, feel free to ask!" Frank said to me.
"Mr. Allen, you're too kind. I just did what I had to do," I replied.
"Mr. Cena, I only have one daughter. She's my everything. Words can't express my gratitude, but here's a hundred million dollars. I hope you'll accept it."
What?
A hundred million check?
My head spun, and for a moment, I was at a loss staring at that check.
Honestly, I was tempted.
It was a hundred million, after all.
How many deals would I need to make to earn this much money?
If Skyliho paid me the regular commission for Edward's deals, I would need to do over a hundred deals.
This was a figure that ninety-nine percent of the world couldn't earn.
It felt like a tug-of-war in my mind.
One urged me to take the check so I could become a billionaire, never have to live an exploited life again and be on equal footing with Edward and the others.
The other opposed, saying that accepting the check would be greedy,a billion was too much, not just a few tens or hundreds of thousands.
In the end, I had an answer. With a wry smile, I said, "Thanks for the offer. Even though I'd never see that kinda dough in my lifetime, I just can't take it."
Frank exclaimed, "Mr. Cena, this is a billion!"
"I know, if you were offering me tens or hundreds of thousands, I would accept, but a billion is too much, and I don't want this act of kind to be tainted. Even though I know I'll regret it, I won't feel ashamed when I look back!"
Gary said, "The kidnappers asked for a billion from me. If it weren't for you, I would have not only lost a billion but also my daughter. So, please accept this billion from me."
"Mr. Allen, I envy rich people like you sometimes, but at other times, I resent it. In your eyes, everything can be solved with money, but this time, I just don't want to use money to solve it."
"This money could make me a rich man, but I prefer to become wealthy through my own efforts! It might sound foolish, but that's my answer,” I said firmly.
"Foolish? No!"
Gary's expression softened. "Mr. Cena, you're a real sage, with a heart of gold. I admire you."
"Mr. Cena, I've heard of people who throw money around, but seeing it firsthand is a first for me. Frank Allen admires you! If you don't mind, I'd like to be your friend!"
Finally, that line came. Who didn't want money?
I was just afraid that holding onto that money would burn my hands.
And I also remembered who this family really was.
Gary Allen, the CEO of the Allen Group.
He had quite the backstory. Over twenty years back, he was at the helm of a famous company, but after a major overhaul, he turned the ship around, using his connections to steer it from loss to profit.
In three years, he turned losses into profits, and then he soared to success, becoming one of the leading companies in the Sevan manufacturing industry!
With a market value of over a hundred billion, he was truly a big shot.
Gaining their friendship was the key. It might not show immediate benefits, but in the long run, it would definitely pay off.
"I couldn't ask for more!" I replied.
We exchanged contact information, and they spent some time chatting with me, giving me a lot of respect.
During the conversation, they also asked about my situation, and I didn't hide anything. I directly stated that I was an employee of Skyliho. After all, I hadn't signed a resignation agreement yet, so I was still an employee of Skyliho.
"Lillian, are you leaving?"
"Dad, brother, you guys run along. I'll stick around."
Lillian said, "I'll be fine."
Gary hesitated for a moment, then he said, "Alright, there are people outside. If anything happens, just call them."
After they left, Lillian asked, "Are you silly? My dad gave you money. Why didn't you take it?"
I was stunned. "What, is it wrong not to take the money?"
"Oh, quit it. You should've taken it when he offered. You saved me, took a hit, and I feel like he didn't cough up enough."
I looked at her carefully, joking, "No problem, you're truly your father's daughter."
"I just don't want you to lose out."
"Alright, stop talking about it, or I'll regret it."
I chuckled bitterly. That was a billion. Damn, I already regretted it.
But regretting now was useless.
"I knew it, but don't worry, I'll make it up to you."
She patted her chest.
I smiled and said, "Alright, I'll take a nap. If you're tired, just have a rest."
Originally full of energy, I became drowsy and sleepy. I didn't know how long it had been before I was awakened by a strong urge to urinate.
Having an IV line made it tricky. I struggled to get up. Since my right hand was bandaged, I couldn't use it, and my left hand was still connected to the drip and various instruments.
Seeing me trying to get up, Lillian quickly asked, "What's wrong?"
"I... I need to use the bathroom. Can you help me remove the needle?" I said, somewhat embarrassed.
"You can't remove that."
She bit her lip and said, "Get off the bed, and I'll help you!"
I was floored. Was she offering to help me drop my drawers?
