Chapter 193
Her daily life was very simple, or perhaps she was just very discreet about it.
But what I could confirm was that her scumbag father used her and blackmailed her by her mother and brother.
Steven just treated her as a plaything.
She was also a woman, and every woman had a soft side.
I looked at her sincerely. "I don't like to brag, but please have your sharp eyes. One day, I will make a place for you. By then, you will be free to do whatever you want."
Katherine trembled, unable to meet my gaze, instead lowering her head and turning away.
I knew she must be in turmoil at this moment.
Just as I was about to press on, Katherine said, "You don't know anything at all! You can't help me with my issues, so today I'll consider your words nonsense. Don't say such things again in the future."
I took a deep breath. "I..."
"Alright, it's getting late. Go back!" She was very guarded. I knew she was carrying a heavy burden. It was impossible to open her heart with just a few words.
"Aren't you leaving?" Katherine asked.
"You go first. I'll stay here for a while."
She stood up and looked down. "Are you... doing this on purpose?"
"What am I doing on purpose?" I was confused.
"How can I get down from such a high place by myself?"
"Get down the same way you climbed up." With that, I lay back on a large rock, crossing my legs.
She became anxious. "John, help me down!"
I closed my eyes, ignoring her pleas.
"Fine, if you don't help me, I'll do it myself!" Katherine added.
Soon after, I heard a cry for help. "John, please... help me. I can't hold on any longer."
I sat up and saw her clinging to a protruding rock, her body half hanging in the air.
I couldn't help but laugh.
"Come and help me down!" She shouted in embarrassment.
Of course, I couldn't just leave her hanging there. Although the beach below was soft sand, it wouldn't be pleasant to fall. I grabbed her hand and pulled her up!
I pretended to be out of breath. "I didn't expect you to look so fragile but have some weight!"
In fact, her weight was nothing to me. That night, when she fainted, I carried her as I ran.
After she finally made it up, I lay back on the rock, and she lay on top of me.
I held her tightly. As she tried to get up, she shouted, "Let go of me.!"
I gasped. "Let me rest. I'm exhausted!"
I greedily inhaled the fragrance from her body, my hands firmly on her back. Alone together in the dark, in this secluded place, if I didn't do something, I would be letting myself down.
She realized. "John, you jerk, let me go!"
She kept hitting me with her fists.
I stopped but didn't let her go, adjusting our positions so she couldn't move.
Looking panicked, she said, "John, what are you trying to do? If you dare to do anything, I won't let you off."
I chuckled. "If I wanted to do something, would I have waited until now?"
"You..." She was speechless.
"Don't overthink it. Look at the stars in the sky, so bright. Whenever I felt troubled, I loved lying on this rock, looking at the stars and letting the sea breeze blow away all my worries." I pointed to the sky. "If you're lucky, you might even see a shooting star."
She fell silent, and I asked, "How long has it been since you've done this?"
After a moment of silence, she said, "A long, long time."
"Then we should come here more often." I took out a cigarette and lit it. As the smoke filled my lungs, all my worries and fatigue dissipated.
"Give me one!"
I handed her a cigarette, and she took a puff. "A lady's cigarette?"
"Yes, a bit milder than what you smoke. I grabbed these in a hurry this time. Next time, I'll bring the kind you like."
She looked at me, holding the cigarette between her fingers, a hint of infatuation in her eyes.
I looked back at her, our eyes meeting, the air seemingly still.
"However, girls shouldn't smoke too much. It's bad for your teeth and lungs." I suggested.
She turned a bit flustered. "So it's okay for men to smoke?"
"No, it's not." I smiled, "So, I only smoke when I'm stressed or tired."
"Me too."
With the gentle sound of the wind in the background and the twinkling stars above, lying next to a beautiful woman, I felt like the world was mine at that moment.
I needed to succeed, more than anyone else, to hold onto everything!
My hand slowly reached out, first touching her hand, then quickly grasping her slightly cold and tender hand.
She trembled slightly. This handshake was completely different from before.
But she didn't pull away. She just tilted her head, the cigarette flickering.
"Can I be your friend?" I asked.
She didn't say anything!
I continued, "The kind of friend who never betrays, who supports wholeheartedly, and who doesn't care about anything!"
"You're not qualified to be my friend yet!" She was tough with her words but didn't let go of my hand.
"What does it take to be qualified?"
"When you grow up enough to make me look up to you, then you'll be qualified."
"Alright, then you wait. I believe that day won't be far off!"
She laughed, but this time, it was different. I could sense happiness and a hint of anticipation in her smile.
We spent over ten minutes on the rock, and even I felt a chill. I asked her, "Are you cold?"
"What do you think?"
"Then I'll warm you up."
With that, I pulled her close. Neither of us said a word, our eyes closed.
I knew the atmosphere I deliberately created was working.
I was a man and not a bad-looking one at that.
She was a woman, a stunning one.
Even if she didn't necessarily like me, humans were emotional. When emotions took over, people would be ruled by their feelings.
I propped myself up, looking at her delicate features, feeling an indescribable desire.
I whispered in her ear, "My mom always told me that when a girl closes her eyes, she wants you to kiss her!"
She opened her eyes, a hint of embarrassment in them.
