Chapter 227
Kelsey shot me a resentful look.
"I had nightmares all night about being bitten by a dog!" Mya exclaimed.
I felt helpless.
Mya glared at me, and I could only manage a dry laugh. Yeah, I might've gone a bit too far last night.
After some thought, I decided I needed to apologize to Mya in person.
After watching the sunrise, I sent a message to Katherine, then another to Mia, asking her to cover for me. Of course, I didn't forget to message Lily either.
That morning, Mya kept avoiding me, even going to the bathroom with others.
Luckily, they organized an outdoor sketching activity that morning.
The West Coast hadn't developed as quickly because the coastline was covered by a dense, primeval forest.
Two teachers led the group into the dense forest, though there were boardwalks built inside.
As soon as we entered the forest, the temperature dropped suddenly, making us shiver involuntarily.
The light dimmed, bird calls echoed everywhere, and towering trees were densely packed. This was definitely a great place for outdoor games!
The teacher said, "Everyone, feel free to explore. Be back here by noon!"
Someone replied, "Yes!"
This place was so big that it would be boring to be followed around. Free exploration was much more fun.
The four of us were purely here to have fun, so I ended up carrying bags for Mya, Kelsey, and Lillian and taking photos for them.
The further we went, the better the natural scenery became. Eventually, the four of us arrived at a small pond.
The pond wasn't large, about the size of a swimming pool, and it was crystal clear, even showing the fish at the bottom.
After walking for a while, our clothes were soaked with sweat and clung uncomfortably to our bodies.
I walked to the edge of the pond; the water was very refreshing. Lillian immediately dipped her fair feet in and let out a delighted sound. "So comfortable!"
Kelsey suggested we play in the water here!
Mya hesitated. "Isn't it against the rules? This is a scenic area."
Lillian said, "It should be fine. If it wasn't allowed, there would be signs prohibiting it. Look around, there's nothing."
Actually, Mya was uncomfortable too, and the environment here was nice, with flowers growing around the pond. Mya didn't insist.
"John, you go outside and keep watch while we change!"
I handed the bags to Mya, Kelsey, and Lillian, swallowing hard. It was unbelievable they had brought swimsuits.
A few minutes later, Lillian called me over; they were already in the water.
They swam like three mermaids in the pond. I couldn't resist, quickly stripped down to my shorts, and jumped in.
The pond wasn't very deep, just up to my chest, perfect for swimming.
I took a deep breath, dove underwater, and played around, making Mya, Kelsey, and Lillian laugh continuously.
During this time, Mya wanted to be angry but couldn't stay mad. She was just unlucky to run into me.
Mya, Kelsey, and Lillian were having a great time when suddenly Mya cried out in pain, "Ah, I got bitten by a snake!"
What!?
I quickly swam over and told Kelsey and Lillian, "Get to the shore; there's a snake in the water!"
Lillian and Kelsey turned pale with fright and swam quickly to the shore.
I grabbed Mya and swam to the shore.
Once on shore, I saw two small puncture wounds on her ankle, bleeding. Kelsey and Lillian were terrified, and even Mya was scared.
Without thinking, I grabbed Mya's foot and started sucking on the wound.
I sucked hard for about ten times until my mouth went numb. Then I asked Mya, "Did you see what kind of snake it was?"
Mya's face was pale. "I didn't see clearly, but I know it had patterns on its body and a round head."
"Patterns and a round head? That sounds like a sea snake," Kelsey said, her voice trembling. "I've heard most sea snakes are super venomous. If you don't get treated fast, it can be really dangerous."
"Not necessarily. A round head doesn't always mean a sea snake. We're inland; sea snakes can't come this far. Plus, I sucked out a lot of blood just now, so even if there's venom, it won't spread that quickly."
I quickly tore my tank top and tied it around Mya's leg to slow the blood flow and the spread of the venom.
"Don't worry. I'll carry you to the medical station now. They must have antivenom."
"You two, follow me."
With that, I picked up Mya and ran as fast as I could. My flip-flops were slippery, so I decided to run barefoot.
Adrenaline was pumping, and I didn't feel tired. Kelsey and Lillian followed behind me. It took us 30-40 minutes to get in, but only about ten minutes to get out.
When we reached the medical station, I shouted, "Doctor, help! Someone's been bitten by a snake!"
A nurse heard me and quickly brought over a stretcher. "Quick, put her on!"
The doctor came over. "What kind of snake bit her?"
"It had patterns on its body and a round head. It bit her in the forest."
I quickly added, "I sucked out a lot of blood before coming here and tied off the artery. It hasn't been more than half an hour since she was bitten."
The doctor nodded. "Wait outside."
I nodded, and Lillian and Kelsey were filled with guilt. "It's all our fault for wanting to cool off. Otherwise, Mya wouldn't have been bitten."
"Don't blame yourselves. Mya will be fine."
I said, "The most important thing now is to call the teacher and notify Mya's parents."
No matter what, we couldn't lose our heads. Honestly, I was very nervous too. I didn't want such a beautiful girl like Mya to die.
Lillian nodded and went out to call the teacher.
Kelsey was crying softly. I went over to comfort her. "It's not your fault. You didn't mean for this to happen."
"John!" Kelsey cried and threw herself into my arms. I could feel her fear and anxiety.
I gently patted Kelsey's back.
After more than twenty minutes, two teachers arrived with a group of students. They wanted to see Mya, but the doctor stopped them. "Don't worry. The patient's vital signs are stable, and there's no sign of poisoning, which means the antivenom is working. There shouldn't be any major issues."
Hearing the doctor's words, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
About an hour later, Mya's mother arrived. They said she was already forty, but she looked just over thirty.
Her figure and demeanor were top-notch.
As soon as Mya's mother arrived, the two teachers quickly went over to apologize. She frowned. "Where's my daughter?"
"In the ward!" Lillian had already explained the situation to Mya's mother over the phone. Mya's mother nodded and headed straight to the ward.
In the room, Mya looked a bit pale but otherwise fine.
The doctor concluded that the snake that bit Mya was likely not very venomous, and my timely first aid prevented the venom from spreading.
Currently, the bite area was just a bit swollen, mainly because I had sucked too hard.
As for her pale face, it was mostly from being scared.
In short, Mya was fine.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, especially me. Hearing the news, I almost collapsed to the ground.
I had carried Mya and run for so long, and now that the tension was gone, I felt sore all over.
Mya's mother stood up and bowed to me. "Thank you for saving my daughter."
I forced a smile. "You're welcome. It was the right thing to do."
Mya's mother glanced at my feet. "Doctor, could you please check this gentleman's feet?"
Only then did everyone notice my feet. I realized they were burning with pain.
Many people were shocked by the wounds on my feet.
"Oh my God, how did you get so many wounds?"
