Chapter 97

She looked at me with a half-smile. "What, do you want to sleep with me?"

Damn, could I fall asleep alone?

Just as I was about to shamelessly move closer, she said, "Judith sleeps with me. If you're not afraid, come on!"

I was taken aback.

Should I go or not?

The last time at summer camp was a special situation, but not now!

I felt a strange mix of emotions in my heart.

Even if I wanted to do something, I couldn't do it with a child around. The thought of the child witnessing anything inappropriate weighed heavily on my conscience.

With that thought, I suddenly lost interest.

Forget it. Let me just be alone. I just had some fun earlier. What more did I need?

With a resigned sigh, I went into the guest room.

The room smelled of Rita's fragrance.

The air conditioning blowing cold air, also helped to temper my fervent emotions.

I resolved to sleep. Once I was asleep, I wouldn't think anymore.

In the dead of the night, half in a dream, the door creaked open.

I was in a fitful sleep and awoke instantly at the sound.

I half-opened my eyes, and through the light from the air conditioning, I saw the person clearly. If it wasn't Rita, who else could it be?

Hmph, not sleeping in the middle of the night, actually trying to sneak a kiss!

"John! John!"

She came over, softly calling my name. I pretended to be asleep and ignored her.

"Are you asleep?"

She muttered, her voice carrying a hint of disappointment.

Just as she was about to leave, I suddenly sat up and hugged her.

"Ah!" She exclaimed, "You're not asleep. You scared me!"

I pressed her down on the bed, grinning, "Stealing a kiss in the middle of the night?"

"I just came to see if you covered yourself well."

Rita hummed. "Let go quickly. I need to go."

"Don't move. you're in my grasp."

At my words, she immediately stopped struggling, asking, "Are you okay?"

I deliberately took a deep breath. "Everything's fine!"

"But you're even sucking in sharply as if in pain." She panicked. "Turn on the light, and let me see the wound!"

Earlier, when she changed the bandage, she saw a long scar and punched me in anger. But I understood it was because she cared for me.

"It's okay. It doesn't hurt now."

I lowered my head, our eyes met, and Rita's tender arms encircled my neck, bestowing a sweet kiss.

My already restless heart pounded even faster.

Every cell in my body was clamoring. If I let Rita leave tonight, I wouldn't be a man...

"Mom, mom..."

Just then, Judith's cry came over, and Rita quickly let go of me, saying, "Judith had a nightmare. Quick, I have to go!"

I felt a pang of frustration, but I knew Judith was Rita's priority.

She hurried over, and I watched as the tempting feast walked away.

'Forget it. It's just 200 thousand dollars,' I told myself.

'I can't even afford Rita's house.'

'Let's talk about it later when I have 2 million!'

I didn't expect Rita to return, but shortly after, she opened the door and asked, "Um, will you sleep with me tonight?"

I was instantly excited again.

But upon closer inspection, she was carrying Judith.

"Judith just had a nightmare and wants to sleep with her dad," she explained.

'So that's how it is!'

Naturally, I couldn't turn down such a thing.

I sat up straight, approached, and picked up the child. The little girl cried and tightly held my neck. She nestled her head on my shoulder and asked, "Daddy, you won't leave me, right?"

"I won't. How could I leave you?"

I gently patted her back. "Don't be afraid. Sleep well."

Rita said, "She often has nightmares. Sometimes I'm at a loss. Luckily, you're here today."

I held her hand and said, "It's okay. I'll come over to accompany her whenever I have time, trying to compensate for the absence of paternal affection."

She held my hand, resting her head on my shoulder.

After coaxing Judith to sleep, I lay down next to Rita, embracing her and saying, "Sleep, tonight I'll stay with you both."

At this moment, there was no romance in my heart, just the desire to protect this mother and daughter.

She gave a relieved smile, resting her head on my arm, and soon fell asleep.

That night, Judith slept peacefully, and Rita slept sweetly.

Early the next morning, Judith lay on me, sweetly calling 'Daddy,' rousing me from my slumber.

Rita also looked at me with a smile. She was truly beautiful, radiating a maternal glow all over.

I had a strange feeling as if we had been married for ages, and Judith was my biological daughter.

I felt as if I had already enjoyed being a husband and a father ahead of time.

After freshening up, Rita took the little girl to school, and I hailed a taxi to the hospital.

The doctor happened to be doing rounds, checked my wound, and started the daily drip.

Luckily, Rita mentioned she was preparing a big meal for me today. Otherwise, she would have definitely followed.

An hour later, Lillian arrived, Gary showed up, and then Frank came a while later.

They were all here to pick me up from the hospital.

"Congratulations on your discharge!"

Lillian held a cup of water and kept splashing it on me.

I asked, "Lillian, what are you doing?"

Lillian replied, "This is holy water. Sprinkling this water on you can dispel sickness and misfortune!"

I was speechless, but it was her good intention, so I couldn't say anything.

"John, congratulations on your discharge. This is my gift for you," Frank said.

He took out an envelope, inside were some nutrition fees, telling me to buy some supplements to nourish my body when I got back.

I weighed it in my hand and found it was so light. Could it be another check?

I pinched it again and realized it wasn't. It contained a bank card. I quickly said, "Frank, you've already bought so many supplements. That's more than enough. I can't take this money."

"This is just a small token from me. Don't overthink it. It's merely a personal gesture!" Frank said.

No wonder he just said this was a personal gesture, not from the Allen Family.

"This... Frank, I understand your intention, but I can't accept the money, really!"

"John, there isn't much inside, just a token of appreciation. Please accept it!"

Upon hearing him say this, I hesitated for a moment.

Lillian snatched the envelope and pushed it into my pocket, saying, "Didn't I tell you? If it's meant to be accepted, then accept it."

Since they all insisted, any further delay would have been rude.

I nodded. "Thank you, Frank."

Frank smiled and said, "Let's go! Time to leave the hospital!"

They originally wanted to treat me to a big meal, but Rita was still busily cooking at home. I couldn't let her efforts go to waste, so I found an excuse to decline.

Gary didn't say much either. "John, how about this? Tomorrow night, I'll have someone to pick you up, and we'll have a modest meal at my place. My wife is insistent on inviting you back. You won't let me embarrass myself before her, will you?"
