Chapter 157

I thought seven to ten days was relatively fast.

"Alright. I'll entrust this case to you."

I stood up and handed her the documents to copy, including printing chat records and so on.

Savannah was very excited. "Thank you, Mr. Cena."

I waved my hand. "You earned this yourself. No need to thank me."

"But let me make it clear. All the evidence for this case is solid. You just promised to win. If you end up losing, you must pay for it!"

"Okay. Don't worry. If we lose this case, I will quit the legal profession from then on."

After she took my documents out to copy, and after everything was done, I paid half of the litigation fees.

Because Savannah was just an intern lawyer, it was relatively cheap, only a total of one thousand dollars.

"Oh, by the way, I have an office on the 20th floor. If you need anything, you can come directly to me."

After saying that, I walked up the stairs.

At that moment, Grace had just finished sending off a group of interviewees. "Where did you go?"

"I went to the law firm downstairs."

She was surprised. "Are you really going to sue Philip?"

"Yes, I will submit the documents to the court tomorrow, and he should receive the summons in the next few days."

She looked at me with some concern. "Won't this cause too much trouble?"

I pinched her cheek. "People should pay for their mistakes, and I have forgiven him twice already. If he dares to come at me for a third time, I'll have to shut him up for good so he never dares to speak nonsense again."

Grace said, "You're not going to sue me too, right? After all, I also made fun of you."

"Aren't you already making up for it?"

She rolled her eyes at me. "Are you feeling pleased with yourself?"

"Of course. Is there anything more satisfying than being with you?"

"You pervert."

She stood up. "It's getting late. Are you going back to the company?"

I checked the time. It was almost five o'clock. I nodded. "Let's go back together."

Anyway, for now, I was still an employee of the Skyliho marketing department. Until I officially resigned, I couldn't just leave my post.

We were very close in the office, but once we left there, we kept our distance.

Back at the office, Lily stood up to greet me. But when she saw Grace behind me, her expression immediately darkened.

I ignored her and walked past her with Grace, chatting and laughing.

"John, come here!"

Lily's expression was gloomy.

I stopped, said goodbye to Grace, and walked up to Lily. "What's the matter?"

My tone was very indifferent.

"Why are you with Grace?"

"Oh, she's the project assistant, and we went to Walker Company together."

Lily frowned. "Why didn't you reply to my messages?"

As she said this, she lowered her voice.

"I've been busy, so I didn't check my phone."

Of course, that was just an excuse. Even if I was busy, I could still find time to reply to messages.

She took a deep breath, anger flashing in her eyes. "Is that your explanation?"

"What do you want me to explain to you?"

I looked straight at her.

Lily seemed flustered. "You will stay and work tonight."

"Sorry, Ms. Wilson, I have something to do tonight, so I'm afraid I can't stay."

I said lightly, "Let's talk about it tomorrow."

Then, I turned and walked away.

I knew Lily must be furious at this point, but so what?

She could be angry. But I had every right to be mad, too.

Back at my desk, I was surprised to see that the partition I had punched through had been replaced.

Just then, Paul walked over, and I asked, "Who replaced this for me?"

Paul pressed his lips. "Ms. Wilson had it replaced."

I looked at Lily's back with a complex expression.

"After you left, Ms. Wilson went to the director's office."

He whispered, "And I heard they seemed to have an argument."

What?

Lily argued with Jenny?

How was that possible?!

"Is it true?"

"Of course it's true. According to colleagues near the office, Ms. Wilson has been speaking up for you."

So, I got Lily wrong?

She actually argued with her best friend, for my sake?

I suddenly felt like a jerk.

"You really made a big move today. Now they're all making fun of Nicole."

Paul gave me a thumbs-up. "Who would still bother with Nicole now? She's just unreasonable."

I shrugged. "Well, she deserves it."

"But be careful. She seems to have her eye on you now, and she's threatening to ruin you if you make a mistake!"

"I'm not afraid of her!"

After chatting with Paul for a while, until it was time to leave, I walked up to Lily and said softly, "Ms. Wilson, I'd like to work an extra hour tonight!"

Lily ignored me, and I was actually a bit nervous, afraid she might leave.

But thankfully, she didn't.

After a while, most people had left, including Jenny. Only two of us were left in the marketing department. I mustered up the courage and walked over, grabbing her delicate hand. "Ms. Wilson..."

"Let go of me. This is the office. What if others saw this?"

I held her hand tightly, not giving her a chance to shake me off. She struggled a bit and then placed her hand under the desk. "You're just a rascal!"

"Otherwise, I will lose you." I exaggerated.

"I never belonged to you!"

Lily gave me a glare and then snorted, "You ignored me before, and was indifferent to me. Why are you coming to me now?"

I quickly smiled, "No. We agreed before not to let others see our relationship in the office, so I have to act a bit indifferent."

Her expression softened slightly. Apparently, she agreed with my explanation. "Alright. Explain to me. What's the deal with you and Grace! I mean in the elevator!"

"That was just a misunderstanding. The elevator was crowded, you know. You're overthinking it, even making me afraid to take the elevator again. Even if it wasn't Grace, there would be others. I won't be able to explain even if I'm innocent!" I said with a bitter face.

Being persistent was the right way.

"If you care it so much, I won't take the elevator when there are female colleagues in it. Or, I'll take the stairs to work every day. Okay?"

I sighed, "As long as you're happy, I'm willing to do so!"

Grace's face softened. She bit her lip. "So, I was wrong?"

"No."

I shook my head, looking at her affectionately. "It just shows that you care about me. I'm actually very happy because I hold a significant place in your heart."

Lily looked a bit flustered. "Then tell me, why didn't you reply to my messages? Don't use that silly, incredible excuse to deceive me."
