Chapter 33

She indeed had that right.

The choice between the roles of deputy manager and manager was, without a doubt, inclined towards the latter.

Upon departing the office, my thoughts were preoccupied with the challenge of securing the deal with Winest Company. The idea of reaching out to Edward was swiftly dismissed, and a direct visit to their premises? I'd likely be escorted out by security before I could utter a word.

Such a predicament!

"John!"

The sudden call from Lily disrupted my thoughts.

"Lily, what can I do for you?" I asked.

"If you're planning a visit to Winest Company, might I... accompany you?" she asked.

I was taken aback.

Accompany me?

"It's not what you're thinking. I'm merely concerned that you might struggle to secure the deal. I believe I could negotiate better terms!" she explained.

Her 'better terms,' I mused, were nothing more than a veiled attempt to steal the credit. Was she feeling threatened by the prospect of my promotion to manager, as suggested by the vice president?

Miss Bailey had assured me earlier that should any issues arise, she would provide the utmost support. No matter how significant a department manager's authority might be, could it ever surpass that of a vice president?

"We'll see when the time comes," I replied, neither accepting nor rejecting her proposal, choosing instead to leave it hanging.

Upon my return to the marketing department, I was met with Mia's reproachful gaze.

Oh, dear!

I had completely forgotten about her!

I slunk back to my seat, my face flushed with embarrassment. Retrieving my phone, I was met with a barrage of her messages.

"John, have you arrived?"

"John, if you don't show up, I'm leaving."

"John, you stood me up, I'll remember this....."

Wiping the sweat from my brow, I decided to deal with Mia later. The immediate priority was to connect with the vice president on Facebook!

I navigated to the group chat, located Katherine's Facebook profile, and with a shaky hand, sent a friend request.

John: [Miss Bailey, this is John from marketing!]

To my surprise, she accepted the request in mere seconds.

A surge of exhilaration coursed through me as I clicked on Katherine's profile, only to find her posts were hidden. She likely preferred to keep her private life separate from her professional one.

Katherine: [If you need anything, come directly to me. I'll support you fully, good luck!]
Katherine's message popped up on my screen.

I couldn't help but admire the vice president's straightforward approach, especially in contrast to Jenny, who, despite being a director, conspired with the manager to exploit the regular staff.

John: [Thank you, Miss Bailey!]

Stretching lazily in my chair, I glanced towards the director's office, where Lily was engaged in a discussion with Jenny. Every now and then, Jenny would cast a glance in my direction.

They were likely plotting some scheme against me.

Ding!

Another message notification pulled me from my thoughts.

Mia: [John, you bastard, how could you leave me to freeze up there. (Angry)]

I glanced at Mia, her face a picture of indignation, as if she had been wronged.

John: [Sorry, I was summoned by Miss Bailey and couldn't inform you in time!]

Mia: [Miss Bailey? Which Miss Bailey? (Surprised)]

John: [How many Miss Baileys do we have in our company?]

Mia: [You mean, Katherine Bailey? (Astonished)]

John: [Yes!]

Mia: [What did Miss Bailey want with you? (Curious)]

John: [Aren't you mad at me? Now you've calmed down?]

Mia: [Ah, John, just tell me, alright? You stood me up, can't I be a little moody? (Hmph)]

I chuckled and replied.

John: [The vice president called me into her office to discuss the project, assuring me of her full support!]

I was careful not to let this newfound attention go to my head; that was the last thing one should do in a professional setting.

Mia: [Ah, so Miss Bailey thinks highly of you. Are you going to make it big? Remember not to forget about me! (Pleading)]

"......"

After a brief exchange with Mia, I plunged back into my work, managing to complete the project schedule before my departure. I sent it to Lily, but she seemed preoccupied and didn't respond.

Switching to my private account, a flurry of messages awaited me,

Sexy Kitten: [Darling, are you busy?]
