Chapter 249
"Are you up for it?" Rita asked.
"Of course, I am. You're my girl," I replied, giving her a playful pat. "I work hard just for you."
"I'm so happy," Rita said, kissing me.
"How about we name the company Ruyi Cosmetics?" I suggested.
"Ruyi Cosmetics, I love it!" Rita exclaimed.
"Alright, Ruyi Cosmetics it is!" I agreed.
Rita added, "Let's use my office in Tianhai Tower as our base!"
Wait, what?
"Rita, you have an office in Tianhai Tower?" I asked, surprised.
Rita nodded. "Yeah, I used to rent it out, but the lease just ended. It's about 400 square feet, perfect for us."
A 400-square-foot office in Tianhai Tower? That's huge.
Tianhai Tower is right across from the YT Building in Sevan City's CBD. The starting price per square foot was $100,000, and now it's up to $200,000, with plenty of buyers.
So, over 400 square feet means over $80 million?
I swallowed hard. "Are you sure it's Tianhai Tower?"
"Absolutely," Rita confirmed. "I invested almost all my cash when it opened and even sold a few houses to get it."
"How much did you spend back then?" I asked.
"Not much, about $45 million," Rita said casually.
$45 million, not much?
I suddenly felt overwhelmed. I thought I was doing well, but Rita's on another level.
"So, you've almost doubled your investment," I said.
I always wondered how she saved over $10 million just from renting properties, but if it's Tianhai Tower, it makes sense. Earning $1-2 million a year from it is normal.
"More or less, it was a good deal," Rita said.
Not just good, it was a jackpot.
With Sevan City on the brink of becoming a first-tier city, Tianhai Tower's value would keep rising. I should buy a house soon, both for investment and to preserve value.
Real estate is still the safest bet.
"Rita, you're so rich. Can I rely on you?" I teased.
"You already can," Rita said, blushing.
That made me feel restless.
"No, I need to keep working hard and leave something for my descendants!" I said.
"I thought we agreed not to tease each other," Rita said.
Before she could finish, I interrupted her, and we ended up making love until late at night.
The next morning, I woke up to a bright sun, but Rita was already gone.
I checked my phone. Rita had left a message: [Taking Judith to school; breakfast is ready. Don't skip it.]
I stretched, feeling refreshed.
Katherine, Lily, Mia, and even Jenny, who had been silent, had messaged me.
After that day, I logged into another account to chat with Jenny, but it didn't go well. There was a clear gap between us.
I opened Jenny's message: [It's been a week. Time to get back to work.]
She didn't even ask about my injury. Just telling me to work—how inconsiderate.
Especially after our last chat, it made me uneasy.
What happened this week?
Sevan City isn't that big, and Joseph still hadn't found me. It didn't make sense. She must be under a lot of pressure.
I replied: [Alright!]
Then came Katherine's message: [The issue with Joseph is resolved. You can come back to work. See me in my office later!]
How did Katherine know?
I had a bad feeling about this.
I replied: [Okay, I'll be there soon.]
Linda messaged: [What's going on with you? I asked for your schedule. Are you planning to resign?]
Why is everything happening at once?
Linda: [Come to my office right away.]
I closed the chat and opened Lily's message: [How's your injury? Miss Smith wants you back at work. I'm heading to the county this afternoon to meet a client. Want to join?]
I felt guilty for hiding the new company from her.
John: [Let's talk when I get to the office.]
Lily: [Okay, I'm on my way.]
Lily sent a photo of her stuck at a traffic light.
The last message was from Mia: [I'm planning to resign from Skyliho Group.]
Mia leaving Skyliho Group was expected. Everlasting New Media had started, and as VP, she couldn't stay at Skyliho.
I replied: [Let's talk when I get to the office.]
Forty minutes later, I walked into Skyliho Group's marketing department, feeling different. Whether I stayed or left didn't matter as much as Lily, Jenny, and Katherine.
I couldn't just leave the game unfinished.
As soon as I sat down, Paul came over. "John, how was your week-long business trip? Relaxing?"
"It was busy and exhausting," I sighed.
He whispered, "Did the clients take you to any fun places?"
I waved him off. "Don't even mention it; clients are getting stingier."
"Bad luck," he said. "Last time, clients took me out twice. If the company hadn't called me back, I wouldn't have returned."
"Your clients are generous," I said.
"Next time, I'll take you along," he said, then changed the subject. "Do you know what Mia's been up to?"
I knew where this was going. "What's she up to now?"
Paul said, "She's been leaving early and coming back late. Rumor has it she's got a part-time job."
I felt a surge of anger. I knew exactly what Mia was doing.
"People have too much time to gossip. Mia's probably busy finding clients," I said.
"Finding clients?" Paul chuckled. "You know what kind of person she is."
"You're being unfair to Mia," I said.
Paul scratched his head. "You've been close to her lately. You must have something going on."
In my mind, we hadn't crossed that line, but we were close.
"Not at all. I wish, but she has to like me first," I said.
"You're a deputy supervisor now, even the director listens to you. It's normal for her to want to please you."
"Hearing you, I sound pretty powerful," I said.
"So I'm telling you, don't mess with Mia. It could end badly."
He'd said this before, and I was curious about what Mia was hiding.
"Why? Tell me," I said.
Paul looked around. Mia hadn't arrived yet. "I heard from someone that Mia had an incestuous relationship with her uncle!"
What?
I furrowed my brow. "Where did you hear that?"
"Mia and I joined the company at the same time. A fellow villager of hers told me. Mia didn't go to college because she got pregnant and has an illegitimate child!"
"Are you sure her villager was telling the truth?" I asked.
"Absolutely. I've seen a photo of the child, and he looks a lot like Mia," Paul said.
You've seen the photo?
My mind was in turmoil—this couldn't be true!
