I stood up and sneered, "You really believe him? Why all the secrecy for a simple deal?"
"What do you mean?" Lily asked.
Nathan slammed the table. "Explain yourself."
Lily got anxious. "John, what are you saying? Apologize to Nathan now!"
Apologize? He didn't deserve it.
"He just wants to sleep with you," I said.
Lily looked stunned, staring at Nathan.
Some things are better left unsaid. Nathan got furious. "You're talking nonsense. Do you even know whose turf this is? I'll make you pay."
He shouted, and a bunch of muscle-bound guys surrounded us.
Lily was anxious. "John, what are you talking about? Mr. Brooks isn't like that. Apologize to him now!"
"If anyone should apologize, it's him," I said.
Nathan laughed angrily. "What? Apologize to you? Are you crazy?"
"You've pissed me off. If you don't apologize, I'll make you regret it. Mr. Williams from DH Distillery is my friend. One word from me, and you won't find a place in Silvercrest or even Sevan City!"
"John, don't be stubborn." Lily anxiously twisted my arm. "Apologize now!"
"Nathan, please let him go for my sake," Lily pleaded.
"If you want me to let him go, you have to stay!" Nathan said.
Lily was stunned. She finally got what Nathan meant but still couldn't believe it. "Mr. Brooks, of course, I'll stay. We haven't signed the contract yet!"
Nathan said, "Stop acting all high and mighty. You think you can get a two or three million dollar deal without any effort? If it weren't for your looks, I wouldn't even bother with you!"
"Mr. Brooks...." Lily's expression changed drastically.
"If you want the deal, stay. Don't leave tonight. I want to sleep with you."
As soon as he said that, the guys blocking the door started laughing.
"Shameless!" Lily was eager to complete the project, but she wasn't stupid. After Nathan showed his true colors, her expression turned cold.
"Even when you're mad, you're beautiful." Nathan clicked his tongue. "Why bother working? Come with me, I'll give you $30,000 a month!"
"Jerk." Lily was furious, her chest heaving. She grabbed my hand and tried to leave.
"Stop them!" Several guys blocked the door.
"Nathan, this is a society of laws!" Lily said.
"What did I do?" Nathan smirked. "I just stopped two thieves from leaving. What's the problem?"
I patted Lily's hand. "Don't worry, let me handle this."
I said, "Nathan, I'll ask you one last time, are you sure you won't let us go?"
Nathan said, "I won't let you go. My company lost money, and I suspect you came to steal from us. Even Skyliho Group won't help you."
This guy was despicable but good at talking nonsense.
"Alright, if you don't let me go now, it'll be tough for you later!"
I took out my phone and dialed Charles' number.
Soon, Charles picked up, laughing. "John, what's up?"
"Charles, I'm at Silvercrest with one of your distributors. He's giving me a hard time." I explained the situation honestly.
Charles got furious. "What? Nathan's messing with you? Hand him the phone!"
I put my phone on speaker. Nathan's face changed. "You know Mr. Williams?"
"Didn't you hear?" I asked.
Nathan scoffed. "No way a small fry like you knows Mr. Williams."
I said into the phone, "Charles, you heard that?"
Charles replied, "Nathan, you can't even recognize my voice? Alright, John, I'll hang up and call him directly."
The call ended, and Nathan's phone rang immediately. His face went pale, and the guys blocking the door looked scared.
Nathan hesitated. "What? Afraid to answer?" I taunted.
He gritted his teeth and answered. Before he could speak, Charles' voice boomed, "Nathan, you better answer the phone. Can't you recognize my voice?"
Nathan was stunned, then said, "Mr. Williams, I..."
Charles cut him off. "John is my friend. If you mess with him, you mess with me. Apologize now, or I'll ruin you."
Nathan begged, "Please, Mr. Williams, I was wrong. I'll apologize to John right away!"
Charles said, "You better apologize properly."
After a few minutes of scolding, Nathan finally admitted his mistake.
He came to me, looking defeated. "John, I'm very sorry. I was wrong. Please forgive me."
"Aren't you going to retaliate against me?" I asked coldly.
Nathan was almost in tears. "I won't dare anymore. I was lying. Please forgive me."
"It's not that easy," I said.
"You're right to scold me!" Nathan replied.
"Do you still want my girlfriend to stay?" I asked.
"What? She's your girlfriend?" He looked at our intertwined hands and realized. "If I had known you were friends with Mr. Williams, I wouldn't have dared. I was wrong about Lily. It was my lustful thoughts. Please forgive me. We agree to the $3 million deal."
For Charles's sake, I decided to forgive him. "Alright, let's leave it at that. Charles is a respected leader in the wine industry. Don't speak carelessly."
"You're right, I won't," Nathan said.
Lily brought out the contract, and he signed it without even looking. He transferred the money to Lily's account on the spot, making the process smooth.
He had planned to promote, but now the $3 million was just to get through this crisis.
