Chapter 46
In these modern times, it seemed the honest and straightforward were the ones most often deceived. I refused to be one of those people!
Yet, she was correct about one aspect - I am indeed capable.
Her meaning was clear as crystal: my personal time was my own, not to be interfered with by others.
Linda, her eyes narrowing, asked, "John, are you really that busy in your free time? What, are you considering a part-time job?"
Her words struck me as odd.
A part-time job? What was she implying?
Was she insinuating that I was some sort of gigolo?
And me, a man, escorting a drunken woman home - what would people think?
Initially, it was an innocent act, but her comment twisted the perception of our situation.
I felt as though Jenny was merely a minor issue in Linda's presence. Even Katherine seemed to be overshadowed.
Caught in this predicament, I was unsure whether to laugh or grimace. The situation was painfully awkward.
Jenny didn't come to my defense, the traitor. Had she forgotten her own words from earlier that day?
I couldn't let this continue. I had to find a way out of this deadlock.
I scanned the parking lot, noting the absence of Jenny's Mercedes, and an idea sparked, "Jenny, didn't you drive here?"
Jenny frowned, "My car is at the company garage. Why?"
Perfect, she didn't drive. I had a plan. "You live in Golden Family, correct?"
"Why do you ask?"
Ignoring her question, I turned to Katherine, "Miss Bailey, you live in Bay No.1, right?"
She had shared her location with me previously, so I knew both Golden Family and Bay No.1 were along the same route. Convenient for both of them!
This area was known as the wealthy district.
Katherine didn't respond verbally, simply nodding her head.
I proposed, "Miss Bailey, since Jenny is on your way home and she didn't drive today, could you perhaps give her a lift?"
Jenny's expression shifted, Linda's brow furrowed, but Katherine seemed to grasp my intention and smiled lightly, "John is always so thoughtful. Jenny, if you're okay with it, we can go together."
Despite being on Linda's side, refusing would be a blatant show of disrespect, potentially causing a rift. Jenny had no choice but to accept.
Linda smiled, "John may be young, but he handles situations with maturity. Keep it up, and I'll put in a good word with Mr. Walton. He'll surely reward you."
With that, she climbed into her Maybach, giving Katherine a knowing look before driving off.
Katherine, seemingly accustomed to such behavior, didn't comment. As she moved to get into her car, I quickly walked over and opened the passenger door, "Miss Bailey, please, take your time."
"Hmph!" Jenny huffed, settling herself in the back seat.
I exhaled a sigh of relief; one hurdle successfully navigated. I couldn't help but pat myself on the back for my quick thinking.
With Jenny present, I had fewer worries.
Neither she nor Linda could object, and even Katherine appeared satisfied.
After all, Linda's earlier comment was laced with veiled threats.
I slid into the driver's seat of Katherine's Range Rover, a vehicle no less impressive than the Maybach.
There's not a man alive who doesn't appreciate a good car, and I'm no exception.
Driving such a luxurious vehicle for the first time, I was a mix of nerves and excitement.
With Katherine in the passenger seat, Jenny in the back, my mind was awash with fantasies.
Imagine one day owning such a car, taking one of these women for a ride - wouldn't that be a thrill beyond compare?
